I mean, I kind of get it though. In all of those stories, the hero kills the henchmen in self defense. The reason why they don’t spare them is because they never have the opportunity to. They end up sparing the main villain because it’s the only time they kill in cold blood.

Red Skull would later go on and work alongside his former colleagues at NASA
@davidwuhrer67043 ай бұрын
You mean the NSA? IDK, it seems the CIA would be more appropriate. It was founded as an umbrella organisation for Abteilung Fremde Heere Ost (renamed Operation Gehlen, now the BND) which was a Nazi military intelligence op spying on the USSR, Operation Werwolf (also known as "stay behind", a last ditch Nazi guerilla plan), and Unit 731. Except, like Werner von Braun, Red Skull never actually shared the Nazi ideology, he was more a generic bad guy who gladly cooperated with a government who enabled things like IG Farben and Dr Mengele. Werner von Braun, who only joined the SS to get a government subsidy (and was kicked out of the German rocket society for working with the military), later worked for NASA, where he got in trouble for treating women and negroes as if they were people. And even for that he needed Walt Disney (who was a dear pen pal of Hitler) to vouch for him. What's interesting about von Braun's working with the military is that he never expected his rockets to be weaponised. Originally he was one of the engineering projects Hitler showed off to the world to show how much Germany could give to the world if only it was allowed to. Later he was arrested by the GeStaPo for wasting the resources needed for war, and was only allowed to live because one of his friends convinced the police that his rockets had military applications. There's a lot more that went wrong with that. Suffice to say that von Braun said that "the rocket worked perfectly, it just landed on the wrong planet." Conversely, Korolev, after his two years in a GuLag prison for having had middle class parents, got his government funding by convincing GosPlan from the start that his rockets were weapons, but secretly designing them for dual use as instruments of scientific exploration. (Korolev was the Ukrainian engineer whom the USA long believed to be a German scientist they had missed during Operation Overcast.)

There's a Sartre quote from the 40s about how nazi sympathizers of his time argued because it's a universal trait for them: “Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

Left wingers do it a lot too. And before you call me a closeted right winger or closeted nazi, I don't consider myself to be ina specific "label" with politics, I'm a man with his own beliefs. If some of them happen to be more left or right leaning then so be it. But anyways, both sides do it. If you call out a right winger for their hypocrisy with supporting a convicted felon, they claim that it isn't a bad thing. You call out a left winger for their hypocrisy of calling others pedos when the Ashley Biden diary exists, they'll claim its a conspiracy theory even though its a family member's confessions. Its not a thing that ONLY right wing people do, nor only left. But people from a specific side never want to look internally and realize that their group is just as flawed and hypocritical.
