This man's voice had a phenomenal range and his ability to structure music in the most unique way. No other person like him. Should have been at Woodstock! From the album CLEAR SPOT in 72. Great album! Love the delivery of the lyrics and the guitar work on HER EYES ARE A BLUE MILLION MILES and MY HEAD IS MY ONLY HOUSE UNLESS IT RAINS.

KZbin is so fking fantastic. How else could I just sit here in my room and watch this brilliant art! Don Vliet is the Great One! The band is tight as shit! As one would expect. Saw them in 1980 in NYC..Twice in one night Irving and midnite at Mudd Club. Yeah, I'm bragging!! You betcha. Wouldn't you? Best show ever!!!

Some Magic Band members have described Beefheart as musically naive... that he had no idea how all the musical parts fit together, and that he depended on his musicians, especially John French, to make it all work. While there may be some truth to that, it is amazing how well Don could reproduce his singing parts when performing live. He clearly knew what he wanted, and he found extraordinarily talented musicians to bring it to life.

Natural talent. He was a painter, not a musician. He had the vision but not the steps it took to produce the vision, which is why a crucial piece of his genii is is the fact that he surrounded himself with people who were technically proficient and could help him translate. Truly beautiful

A true one off. As funky as it gets. Beefheart had some of the best slide players, Ry Cooder, Dan Harkleroad (aka Zoot Horn Rollo) and Jeff Maurice Tepper.

@Israfvel It was the night after Lennon was killed. "This is for John, from Don" is how he began both shows. I don't remember much except Bat Chain Puller, Sun Zoom, Big Eyed Beans. Crazy Little Thing... Not sure if "Doc from the Radar" had been released yet... Everything you heard on record was done live....dazzling and fierce.
