Awesome talent - fantastic innovative song writing, one of the greatest albums of all time. The different time signatures - especially in Dancing Madly backwards and Mesmerization Ecclipse were ground breaking. Cudos to the under appreciated Bobby Caldwell for fantastic drumming and song writing on this.

@@mikek8553 Evans was indeed very good and even though he was in DP mk 1 he has never been known among ordinary DP fans. Forgotten and totally underestimated. So, Lord, Blackmoor and Paice thought he didn't fit Purple's new sound. However, it has been mentioned that his departure from Deep Purple had to do with his desire to move to the United States. Have also thought about it, that Ian screamed. But it probably hasn't worked that well for many years. Roger Daltrey has some of the same difficulties when performing now. My generation doesn't sound the same as it did fifty years ago.

Danish band Zoser Mez did a great cover on their only album Vizier Of Wasteland from 1991. Michael Denner (Mercyful Fate/King Diamond), Hank Shermann (Mercyful Fate and others), Claus Weiergang on bass and 3 different singers. Kenny Lübcke, Yenz Cheyenne and Berthel aka Lars Berthelsen. Drums were split between Bjarne T Holm (Mercyful Fate and Fate) and Kim Hagemann. On their cover Kenny Lübcke was singing and Kim Hagemann played the drums

Before his Journey days Steve Perry unsuccessfully auditioned as a singer for this band following the departure of Rod Evans, previously Deep Purple's original singer. I hear occasional similarities in at least some of Rod Evans' Captain Beyond work and some of Steve Perry's vocal flourishes.
