Ghostbusters 2016 lost $70 million dollars. I'm pretty sure Afterlife made money having a much smaller budget, yet i don't know, i never knew anyone who saw it, for the same reason i didn't that Ghostbusters 2016 and those who made it killed the franchise. You don't treat your audience that way and it not have consequences.

The saying, “When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression,” applies a lot these days, but it feels especially-and unfortunately-relevant in the conversations around “Captain Marvel.” Star Brie Larson has made reasonable and refreshing calls for inclusivity in the press access around the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, which some dudes have taken (wrongly) to mean “no white men” allowed in the club house-a club house that they’ve guarded for, oh, pretty much the entire history of film journalism. In an interview with the Washington, D.C. FOX station, she clarifies what she meant for anyone who was still confused about her statement “What I’m looking for is to bring more seats up to the table,” the Oscar-winning actress said when asked by the interviewer about the angry response. “No one is getting their chair taken away. There’s not less seats at the table, there’s just more seats at the table.” Those offended by her statements have taken to the internet with their ire, most recently on Rotten Tomatoes. There they’ve tried to tamp down excitement for the film with negative user reviews, which seems like a less-than-effective strategy as well as a poor use of their time, but you do you, trolls. By contrast, early reviews by those who have actually seen the movie are generally glowing

@mikarandom42

A Wrinkle in Time was a film that's target audience was NOT 40 yr old white dudes. The press who got to review that film leaned heavily in that demographic. A balanced field of journalists would have gotten a variety of eyes on that film. Resulting in the target audience's perspective reaching the public. Brie Larson only made a rude comment, if you take a clip out of context and ignore the whole point of her speech

brie larson stunts interview before chris hemsworth ... No, it really all came out of ignorance, to be honest. I didn’t realize that you don’t actually do your own, most people don’t do their own stunts in these movies. I thought you did, and I’ve never been a particularly elegant or athletic person. I’m just an introvert with asthma and felt like I needed to be able to do that. I just thought, “I don’t wanna be on set, and they ask me to do things, and I don’t know how to do it.” So I started training as soon as I could, which was right after I wrapped, so it basically started right as I wrapped picture, I locked picture on the film that I directed. I then went into that, which then turned into nine months of training. And nine months of just training-training, and three months of stunt training with the stunt team. We spent two hours every day, five days a week. And it wasn’t until … everyone just went along with it, and was like, “Cool.” It wasn’t until we started shooting, and I started doing all my own wire work stunts, and flips and stuff that people were like, “You know nobody, now we’ll tell you, nobody actually does this. We just didn’t want you to stop. But now that you’ve kind of accomplished this thing, we don’t normally do this.” And I was like, huh?

"You have this Kree part of her that's unemotional, that is an amazing fighter and competitive. Then there's this human part of her that is flawed but is also the thing that she ends up leading by. It's the thing that gets her in trouble, but it's also the thing that makes her great. And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her."
@The_Bear_Army
@The_Bear_Army Жыл бұрын
If that was in the movie then it might have been slightly better, yet it wasn't. Unlike in some of the comics, in this film she's just a human with infinity stone powers, with her only weakness being criticized by others, and yet the plot still doesn't hold her accountable over said weakness. That part of her that gets her in trouble? It doesn't. Her plot amour shields her from the negative consequences of her actions. If they actually gave her realistic negative consequences, then that would be somewhat interesting, sort of like Superman in some ways with the lesson something like the grass always being greener, or something.

Brie didn't say white males don't have the right to an opinion because of the colour of their skin. She cited statistics and shared her opinion. Which she's entitled to too. That opinion being when she stated what she doesn't need. And what she doesn't need being a 40 yr old white dude to tell her what didn't work for him about a Wrinkle in time, over a critic from the intended target demographic of the film. Its cool that you enjoyed A Wrinkle in Time. That film directed by Ava DuVernay may have been accessible to you but was not made FOR you. She had teens in mind before you. She had females in mind before you. She had black viewers in mind, before you. (I'm assuming you're white). None of this takes away from your enjoyment. Just saying that films are made for non white male audiences too and that they should be covered by a field of non white males that is proportionate to the general population. Check out the whole thing dude. She mentions everything you would want to hear from her.

So, it's perhaps not surprising that Gal Gadot has strong opinions on the topic of feminism. The actress - who had almost given up on her film career when she landed Hollywood's most badass female role - believes anyone who is not a feminist is by default sexist. "People always ask me, 'Are you a feminist?'" Gadot tells Rolling Stone, in a new interview out this month. "And I find the question surprising, because I think, 'Yes, of course. Every woman, every man, everyone should be a feminist. Because whoever is not a feminist is a sexist.'"
@The_Bear_Army

And said ideological group wonders why everyone hates them. All the virtue signaling of diversity and respect in the world, and when you really boil it down it's just an intolerant authoritarian group that demonizes everyone who doesn't agree with them using lies. Said group that labels men as a group as the enemy, are the biggest sexists in mainstream society.
@captainzorikh
@captainzorikh Жыл бұрын
@@The_Bear_Army The difference is one of perspective. Either "feminism" is or is not the equalitarian position. If the default in our society is inequality, then feminisim is equalitarian. If you think the default in our society is equality, then feminism is a supremecist position. Being s the literal definition of feminisms is equal opportunity, equal pay for equal work," the existence of feminism assumes that the societal default is inequality. So if you disagree with that point of view, then the opposite of equality is sexism. It is not so much that men are the "enemy," but rather that enough men are enjoying the privilege of a sexist society that change will not happen unless work is actively done to make it happen. And complacency is part of the problem.

Yeah, sorry about that. KZbin's system of advertisement is far from perfect. Yet if you want to help the content creators you choose to support, watching their ads all the way through is one of the best ways. If they're not fully watched then neither KZbin or the creator make any money off them, and KZbin's algorithm prefers sharing those they can make money off. Defo sucks though.

Have you ever read a movie review and felt like it completely missed the point (and the magic!) of a film you love? Brie Larson apparently has, and is offering a tangible, achievable solution to these misguided reviews: a more diverse pool of film critics. At the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards in Los Angeles, Brie spoke about the importance of greater representation in criticism, which would hopefully lead to increased representation in the films themselves.
@The_Bear_Army
@The_Bear_Army Жыл бұрын
"A misguided review" is implying there's such a thing as a completely objective review of anything. There isn't, since all different points of view inevitably have an element of subjectivity in them. Based on what you've just said about her, that does fit my view that she doesn't handle criticism all that well.

it's way more difficult to fight a psychological villain than a physical one
@The_Bear_Army
@The_Bear_Army Жыл бұрын
... what psychological villain? The movie depicts her dysfunctional behaviour as acceptable, as opposed to Jimmy from Better Call Saul which does depict how unacceptable it is to let your vices get the better of you. The only depicted villains in the film is those telling her off for her unstable emotions and behaviors, and it only takes her 1 minute to defeat them.

Again, as I said at the end of the review, by OP I'm not just talking of superpowers, I'm talking about power in the plot in general. Kryptonite aside, Superman does have non-superpower weaknesses, and the plot holds him to account for that. In this film and in the comics as far as i know, she doesn't have any accountability. Her bad behaviour doesn't have consequences like it should for a character grounded into reality with cause and effect.
