-I can't believe they got away with this stuff!!!
...A Hot Resurrected Babe tried to plug poor old Captain Scarlet, who in turn plugs her Real Good!!!
(Check out her horrific scream as she falls to her death--- Suitable for kids? -I think not!!!)
This is why I LOVED Gerry Anderson's stuff- it dared to go where none of the other boring, mindless shows of that time period went... people DIED, sometimes in a hideous manner, and it made sci-fi COOL!!!

I remember watching this as a kid, every time there was a real hand - "REAL HAND!" Admittedly you didn't used to get so many in a row as you see in this clip xD

I first heard of this story as a children's book. It was only three years later that I found out that it was an episode. I got to see all those things that I had previously needed to merely visualise. This has since become one of my favourite episodes.

Sarah Johnston From what I can work out, kids shows are so over light-hearted that they can't seem to keep up with reality. Captain Scarlet is a prime example of kid's TV (of course any adult could get away with watching it as well, but that ain't the point). Sometime after The Animals Of Farthing Wood (another prime example), I guess producers of the BBC/ITV and so forth were like; "wait a minute, kids shouldn't have to watch characters die or use violence. This sort of content would put them off. I know, let's treat them more like infants and give them a nonsense programme about 4 monsters with glowing antennes who talk rubbish and live in some deserted grassland" Now, kid's TV, especially UK kid's TV is nothing but yukky and lazy animation, plotless episodes and shoddy titles.

Johnno9989 That, and it contains nothing that can prepare them for the real world. Violence actually prepares children for the world around them. They'll see a lot worse in their days. Best prepare them for it now. Violence in certain forms (like self-defence or a simple gunfight as opposed to gorey mass slaughter) or in moderation like in Captain Scarlet or Thunderbirds will not scare children and it will not give them violent tendencies (according to science, anyway). Therefore, it should be completely fine to at least allow some forms of violence into children's entertainment and we could at least give them something with a plot while we're at it. At least Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated was on the right track...

Some great videos you have of Captain Scarlet violence, I have a suggestion for an addition to your collection, the clip form winged assassin where DT19 is under the mysterons' power, and guides the plane to kill the Asian Director General, and Captain Scarlet rams the SPV into the wheels of the plane. Now there's something that would never make it to air on TV nowadays, what with the PC brigade well and truly out in force.

If a mysteron had the powers of retrometabolism, how come they die so easily in every episode, yet Captain Scarlet always manages to survive?

It probably has to do with the first episode where he was a mysteron agent, but fell to his death & got splattered all over London; after that he 'reset' & became cool. Otherwise, I guess the mysterons don't bother re-animating anyone as part of a mind-game, and just start over with new zombies after each failure. Then again, electricity kills mysterons. And bullets. and explosions....Well, pretty much anything kills mysterons.
