Great video. I started my drone hobby when my partner bought one of these cheap drones that promised so much. Forward 2 years and I’ve had at some point all DJI drones under £2k. I’m surprised that these companies get away with what they claim. I get asked by so many people what to buy. I just say you get what you pay for and I recommend DJI. Steve, here in the United States, The F.A.A. does require all drones being used for commercial purposes, ( Real Estate, Construction, etc...) even drones under 250 grams to be registered and the pilots must have completed the Part 107 certification. I received this information directly from a contact at the F.A.A.. After years of watching your channel I think I have decided on the Mini 2 FE. I don't need many features, just a good camera platform to take photos of construction sites for Architectural work and for checking roofs of existing buildings. It will be interesting to see how the remote ID program will affect the drones under 150 grams. Thanks for all the great content and thanks again for the stickers!

After having a few of the cheaper drones the things that I would like to have the most are brushless motors that drive the props directly because the gears burn up on the cheap ones and after that they get added to the pile of other junk drones. I also like obstacle avoidance, but I am not that particular about the camera and I found that when I first started flying them I flew lower than I should have to operate them safely. Even the cheapest ones that I had were able to fly much higher than I usually did.

I'm absolutely with you - What does this come down to? You don't have to buy a drone from the so-called "market-leader" to get great value for money. But you also have to step down from all your expectations. Be a little more realistic. Then train yourself with what you got. Most of the cheaper drones aren't really bad, they are only limited in some niche aspects. With the knowledge of these limitations and how to deal with them, these drones are very good and safe to fly with.

Here in Holland you do not need papers if it's lighter than 250 grams, but if it has a camera... yep, you need a certificate and needs a registration with the RDW being a pilot (LOL). The certifications are very easy to get. I have the A1 & A3 plus the A2. That was about 200 euro and took about a couple of days studying. Makes life easier having all those papers. I have a cheap one, very fun to fly with... only battery are small. And a bigger one, I have still to start flying with, that looks like better. Started this to look at my roof (flat) and see if it's clogged.

As a UAS pilot that started off as a hobbyist, and initially purchased the DJI Mini 2 , these requirements infuriated me , of course everyone wants to get familiar with a drone and be pro over night. However it honestly takes a few crashes and courses to perfect the drone flying skill set , and even then there is always room for improvement … it’s like asking the salesman at Ferrari to sell you the car for the price of a Honda (no offense) you just gotta pay to play, and thus spending a few hundred dollars vs $50-$100 will get you much further along , and in reality will definitely outlast your learning curve before you can go and make a bigger purchase , once again I started on a dji Mini 2 and still find myself throwing it in my travel bag for quick trips sure it’s not my Cine 3 or even my DJI FPV drone but it honestly just works… these cheaper drones will definitely bore you in a matter of weeks as you outgrow the bad camera and sloppy flight. If you didn’t pick that up from @dronecaptain trust me it’s worth the initial investment , and he’ll you can even find ready to fly FPVs that have RTH functionality , for less then $600 these days. Many can be bought from the $350-$500 price point. Do your research and fork up a few more dollars and I can guarantee you it’ll be a hobby that you stick with for much longer then that cheaper drone option will last you.

Wasn't in the market for a real drone last summer, but I'd moved into a hillside house and wanted to see if a cheapo $50 one could manage just a bit of low-def footage of the hillside and sides of the house. Not even a chance. I did avoid hitting any cars as it careened hundreds of feet within a few seconds of launch, spinning wildly (this is after trimming indoors -- it cannot handle a whisper of breeze), so there's that. Kinda wish I had my ancient AR Drone from 2013 ($300 then), which is the quality level I was hoping had reached the sub-$100 market at this point, and which absolutely would have been able to do the light ask I needed without flying into traffic. Which makes me think there's no "just a stable drone to fly and not take anybody's eye out" like the AR and others filled is a massive gap in the market now.

As someone in the states that does this, the agents who want a drone to fly through the house are only asking that because they saw a video of it, but it isn't needed for a one take walk through with a gimbal. They don't understand that. Also, any RE asking to do this in the states needs their Part 107. And as someone who shoots RE both commercial and residential, interior and drone if I were asked, I'd laugh and walk away from their business.

I've spoken to many people in both real estate and construction and they all say "we use our own" but when I ask if they have part 107 they say no. I tell them about the law but they think I am just trying to drum up business. If they get caught they can get a $250,000 (US) fine.

Barely got into drones. I bought one for around $130-$150. It's not the greatest. Lacks a lot of features. It's 4k. But has a very limited range, and slightest object in the way will start lagging the connection. But I know what I paid for. I didn't buy the highest end drone. Nor did I think it's a good idea to do so right off the bat. I am now saving up for the Autel Evo Nano+. As it honestly seems like one of the best options for a drone. While not hitting the $1000 mark. I think I saw them on sale for around $600. But I can't imagine wanting to use a drone for your business', but only wanting to spend around $100. We have a nonprofit tv/recording business. They aren't big at all as our town isn't big. But they tend to do the filming for businesses adds. They don't use it too much. But they have a drone that is around $20,000. I think it's an Dji Inspire or something like it. It's insane, and they rarely take it out since only one person is allowed to use it. You don't need to send $20,000 on a drone. But at least think about representing your business, and don't go cheap.

It's nice to see attention paid to a non-camera drone. At 66, I'm old and grew up loving R/C airplanes. However, I never had much luck with them. Since I enjoy just watching from the ground whatever model is flying, I don't feel the need for FPV or other camera drones. I'm sure I don't know what I'm missing, but that's me. I got the Holy Stone HS210 and I LOVE it! (The one in this video is the HS450.) I also have the Holytone HT02 and I LOVE it as well. Man, is the HT02 ever tiny!! Both of these WILL fly outdoors if it is dead calm. If there is a tiny breeze, flying them on the highest speed setting will compensate. Indoors on the highest speed setting, oh man they really move! Neither of these has a camera but they are very inexpensive. I also live in Canada and got them from Amazon here in Canada. It boggles my mind that both of these have trim functions, so you can fine-tune them to hover in one spot. They have altitude hold, so if you simply let go of the joysticks, the drones will stop and hover in place. I can't say enough about both of these. If you want something to fly and don't need to have a camera, either one is great. Yes, they are "toy" drones, but this big kid is smitten. Also just want to say that I have no connection to the companies nor am I sponsored in any way. I'm just a satsfied customer. Best wishes to all.

I have the mini 2, and if you're new to this, it works like magic, the camera stabilization is insane, the drone hovers in one spot, it lands itself, finds back home if signal lost, it's super fast, the picture is clear, records in 4k, long flight, long reach. But then someone buys a $100 clone, that looks almost exactly like the mini, and it has all the features of the mini, but it's terrible at every one of them and you're thinking, so what if it's only 1080p, that's good enough, right? And then you see the video and it's ridiculous. So if you want to hate your new hobby, just buy the cheapest knock off you can find. The yellow one is obviously a lot of fun.

I want a drone for specific functions, but i havent been finding what i need. Until now! If i watch drone footage of landscapes, then go there as a tourist, its nothing like the same. I want to make and see footage that can be experienced in person. I want to make it by myself, and including myself in the footage (standing, walking, mountainbiking) Having come across the Hover Air X1 drone in the last few days, its almost exactly what I want. Simple and quick to launch, pre-programmed functions. But its $385usd!!! And only has a 2.7k 30fps camera. Its pretty good, smooth footage. But its a leap in budget from the $20 selfie cam toys below that with wibbly wobbly footage and dire photos lookong like theyre from a keychain cam. Whilst everyone is fussing over $1000 drones, having to deal with licenses and insurance, damage and loss, I'm still trying to justify the expense, and click the buy button. I'll do it soon. Maybe. Probably 🫣 Ill go and watch some more videos on it....

I could not agree more. No verbal advice about buying a first drone is going to be as good as operating one. This video shows clearly how much you can get for peanuts and how well they bounce. I fail to see how such a drone buyer could be disappointed with a purchase after watching this and after a few hours with a pair of hot thumbs should be have a better idea of where to go next. Maybe back to you for direction to your examinations of more advanced machines. P.S. I entertain myself with a couple of cheap early bare bones drones and then do the same with the modern day equivalent to feel just how much extra is available today. Might be fun for a beginner to do likewise but the otherway round to ensure encouragement rather than the opposite.

I guess I am the odd duck...again. My first quadcopter I didn't care about camera or distance. Air time was important so I could learn to fly better. I only bought a 'camera drone' when I noticed the children were following the quadcopter. Again, not a photographer, I got a decent camera when I had children. Expect every feature to have a price and an opportunity to error out, and if you can't see the quadcopter, you have less chance of finding if it goes down. My first RC was an Ifly Vamp, looked like a bug crossed with a bat. My last was a Bolt Drone. So far so good, it has it's own monitor so no smarty smart phoned need also harder for government to shut down.

Hi Steve, unfortunately, there are people who are gullible and believe you can get a good quality drone that can do what $1000 drones can do, reality check not so, I knew this already, I own a Mavic 2 zoom as a first drone and it cost me >£1000, it is a great drone I love it and it does meet my requirements in what I wanted in a drone. I do want to upgrade for one with an even better low light camera and I know it will cost quite a bit. The fact of the matter remains if you want a drone

Nice video. And thanks for all you work. It prevented me from throwing $250 out the window. I will save some more and for a DJI mini 3 pro, or something in that range.

Time 0:50. YES 😊 My real concern is if it would be blown away with high wind I like the new Hover X1 what you think about it, is there something Similar & Better with obstacles avoidance ? Thank You

Oh my.. My hole criteria, is wind resistance, camera (60 fps 4K minimum), top end speed in sport mode, (combo kit) meaning extra battery, extra props etc, solid stabilization, meaning if you take it up and get a home point updated, then just let it sit. How much does it drift? $1,200 or less for the combo. It won't be under 250 grams because I live in a windy area.

Dji mavic air 2 fly more kit under $1200 and checks all those requirements

@@brandonnn6400 Even the Air 2 S fly more combo used to be in the $1,200 range. My lowest end option is still the FIMI x8 2022.

Ok what drone do I want? here are my requirements - I have never operated drone before ... I used to play flight sims on a keyboard- Edit I want to fly where I want to fly and not have some AI block me out - 1. twice daily waypoints flight with 3 point gimble camera, I'm looking for small animals Mid day and Later afternoon and sometimes night. 2. On command waypoints eg letter box at specific times responding to road noise etc. 3. Random flights including infrared capabilities, I'm looking for Lost or missing animals at night. 4. in the event of a error it needs to find me and return home because this is heavy New Zealand bush and I can't find the drone. 5. flight time and distance = Distance 1000 meters flight time 15 to 30 Question: What drone do I go for? Lets say I top out at NZ$700 ...

There is nothing cheap with those capabilities.

Funny! 🤣 Those are the questions the serious researchers have. Many times the descriptions of the products are confusing and not really saying what we really want to know. ** If people want a drone with good camera, then they have to spend.

I think they want you to give them a drone for their price Steve? It's impossible to get a great drone with those features for that less than a hundred dollars price. It's a crazy world Steve, I'm sure you know that by now. Those crappy toy drones are the worse to try, and fly. I understand that maybe some people think it's a good idea to buy those to practice flying, but in reality it's the worst way. Thanks for sharing Steve. Keep up with the awesome videos. See you in the next video my friend. 👍👍👍

Honestly, if you want to learn how to fly fpv, you need to get a tinyhawk 2. Problably the best budget tinywoop, and if you use a 2S, you can do some freestyle. under 250g, very fun fpv drone, and very cool.

You make these toys look way more fun than the 500-1k drones😂. If 1.3 of your currency is equal to a $1 US dollar you’re doing pretty well.

It’s FOV is small. And that’s why it’s zoomed in. That’s how zoom works.
