Hello Captain Drone, I went out and flew my drone for the first time this afternoon and it was a blast. All I did was take it to a school parking lot and tried it out. I just wanted to get the hang of controlling the drone. What an easy drone to fly. I have never flown one before so I was a little apprehensive until I got it up and running and into the air. Wow I am amazed how responsive this drone is and how easy it is to fly. I recorded some video of the flight but school parking lots and videos of the football fields and tops of buildings aren't very interesting, but I had fun reviewing the videos of the flight. My thanks to you for your helpful tips on how to get ready for my first flight. Happy flying!

Thanks! I tend to agree with you. It seems there are people out there who have flown DJI products for so long that their brains expect every other drone on the market to operate like a DJI product, so the comparison is always to DJI. Not everyone is like that thankfully. I'm a long time DJI owner and I found it easy to adapt to Yuneec's drone style.

Hi Captain Drone, Thanks for your excellent video for beginners. I was originally planning a Solo until I noticed things were getting flaky about 9 months ago. So after a lot of research, I came across the Yuneec Typhoon H and decided after consuming way to many hours on KZbin that it was the way to go. I ordered it from the US at the end of January and was a bit nervous about flying it until I found your great tutorials. This morning I flew it for the first time after following your calibration video and was amazed how stable it is and how easy it is to fly. My first footage is pretty good thanks to a Freewell ND/CPL filter. I just need to get more confident to move to manual camera settings to clean up the noise in the blacks. Again thanks! Keep up the great videos.

Just curious why you stated about the avoidance switch, that you recommend to do your 1st flight with it off? I am new to this typhoon , high caliber, drones. But that just sounds backwards to me. I am saying this because I crashed mine into the gutter of the house. I hit the follow me program and it went straight back away from me and hit the house. Would avoidance on have made this not happen?
@CAPTAINDRONE7983 жыл бұрын
Avoidance is dangerous for beginners on a drone like this. This is not modern day avoidance but rather something from the good old days and it can be unpredictable.

I bought the Typhoon (i don't know which model it is....how do you tell?) about 1 year ago. I promptly crashed it, and after #$700 of repair, I have it back. Of course, now I'm scared to death the fly it. I enjoyed this video, and just wondered if you have a follow on? I'm a professional Real Estate Photographer in Tampa, Fl, and many of my customers want some drone shots, so I need to be able to do this. The feature that intrigued me when I bought it is the function that lets you set way points and then just tell it to go ........it should go to the waypoint, let me take a picture, and move to the next, etc. Seems like a waste after I got it. It was immediately obvious that the battery spent during the process of setting waypoints was useless. I could have just flown to the waypoints, taken my shots, and been done. I do want to see other videos about flying it and actually using the features (like using the magic want, circle about a point, etc) would be very useful. I can find a lot of videos but they seem to be unboxing and useless stuff like that. What do you recommend?

How easy do you think it is to go from DJI phantom 3 pro to Typhoon in an emergency situation when you don't have time to gather a lot of experience but you need to shoot an event over a lake? Thanks. Looks pretty easy to me, to be honest.
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
If all you have ever known is the Phantom 3 Pro, then you'll have a small learning curve... but there will be a learning curve. If you watch most KZbin reviews you'll notice that most of them are by DJI Phantom owners and they run into all sorts of problems because they assume the drone will operate like their Phantom, which it does not. As long as you don't try and immediately fly it like your Phantom and expect it to perform exactly the same way, then you should have little problem.

So, I have a TYphoon H, and wanted to give it a "first flight". This video seemed pretty exhaustive, so I was ready to go. However, before actually turning the thing loose in the wide open sky, I decided to moor the thing, and test it first. So, I laid down some bags of 22 ammo on the landing gear, and powered it up. Sure enough, the blades start at idle speed. Then I gave it just one tiny nudge up on the left joystick. And it jumped up in RPM. Then it jumped up again, and again.... It seems as if it were at FULL speed, and was seriously looking like it wanted to break it's moorings and be loose in my office with me. (Did I mention that I did this test indoors?) I frantically pushed the left joystick DOWN and it did resume idle speed, but not immediately. I am now wondering, if I do this outdoors, without any restraint, if I give it one simple nudge on the left joystick, is it going to shoot straight up into the sky and be gone? Serious question.
@CAPTAINDRONE7985 жыл бұрын
Hmmm.... you are slowly learning the world of drones. What you did and how the drone reacted is exactly as it should. You asked the drone to go up, the drone sensed it required more throttle so it gave more due to it being connected. You are lucky it didn't flop from side to side and destroy itself. Next time, let it go free... for a beginner, stick it in turtle mode on takeoff and it will be very calm to rise.

Sounds like when you reset the factory defaults you also reset the internal data. The ST-16 has no idea what it is connecting to, so you'll have to tell it be selecting the correct model (Typhoon H) and the correct camera, then bind them together with the ST16.

Yuneec is a strange company. The main issue for the stuttering in videos is the speed of the storage device it's connected to. I have a very powerful PC (4790k and GTX 1080) and the video stutters when on a USB Stick or my hard drive but when its on one of my SSDs no such stuttering occurs.
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
This type of stuttering is what is viewed on the owners computer due to as you noted processing power. Stuttering in videos viewed by millions on KZbin can be due to several things. One is again the processing power, two is the internet bandwidth, and three is how the video was rendered... sometimes a frame is dropped here and there.

I just received the H and my settings menu goes directly to "GPS on/off"; "Compass"; "Accelerometer" and "Gimbal Calibration". Not a menu like you show. Do I need to update the firmware?
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
It does sound like you have an older Firmware. Push your left D-PAD (the "+" sign button under your left joystick) and see if anything is displayed on your screen... it should change your camera settings. Try your right D-PAD and see if anything is displayed on the screen (this is your cruise control). Also, check your camera settings and see if they look like mine... Do you have a Histogram option? If you're missing any of these options, then you probably have older firmware.

Hi my name is Greg MacMillan I'm from Prince Edward Island Charlottetown I have a problem with the Drone I own a yuneec typhoon H I like to know if it's necessary to calibrate the GPS problem of having is it's not light it up it's not lighting up so I can't engage it to do the cow bration I was wondering why I appreciate appreciate you getting back to me and let me know what's wrong maybe there's nothing wrong but I just like to know why it's not lighting up so I can touch it to go to do my calibration
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg. If I understand your question, you are trying to perform a compass calibration but the indicator lights on the arms are not giving you the correct feedback. If this happens, you can try moving to a different location to try a compass calibration. As soon as you select calibration and then compass on your ST16, the lights should indicate that they are ready for the compass calibration. If you do the calibration correctly the lights will let you know it and the Typhoon H will make a confirmation sound as well as restart and regain the GPS. If none of this happens, then the calibration did not work.

Greg, Ok so you're very new. You'll have to phone Yuneec support to walk you through how to do a compass calibration. It is very easy, but if you are new to drones, then it can be confusing. Here is one of my other videos which might help you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nquqZGOJoambm9U

@Thedoug3695 жыл бұрын
I would strongly recommend removing the camera before doing the compass calibration, to avoid undue stress on the gimbal motors. It snaps right off in a second or two, and slips right back on when you're done. Happy flying!

Questions, I have been flying my Typhoon H for about a year now. I just noticed the last couple of times I flew it, when I turn the yaw left or right the drone reverses as it turns instead of just spinning in place. Have you ever experienced that? Any ideas?
@CAPTAINDRONE7984 жыл бұрын
I have never experience that. If it does it all the time then a setting has changed on your ST16 controller.

Question, if I one day decide to upgrade from my advanced 3 which would be the best choice? The typhoons h or the phantom 4 advanced? I like the form factor of the phantom as it fits in my bag and can cycle around. Pretty sure I wouldn't be able to fit the typhoon in a rucksack...

Yes, I was very impressed with the Typhoon H or Hplus(2021). It will be my next purchase.I found Vertigo Drone on line, and I was wondering if there are any Discount coupons available for the H plus. Yes I know the H and the H + are still using old battery technology - not smart battery and the H+ does not have collision avoidance sensors especially for the price but it still intrigues me. I love the stability and the retractable landing gear.

I'm thinking of a drone that follows effortlessly like the Typhoon H but it is too big to go mountain biking. Any drone you duggest that follows with the use of a GPS controller on the person being followed. THanks in advance.
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
There is a KZbinr that used (and maybe still does) cycle with a Typhoon H. He used the Wizard wand for the follow and control. Any of the DJI products will follow a mountain bike using active track (you can put the controller away), however, the drone requires a clear view of you on the bike at all times. If you go under a tree it will lose you. The Phantom & Mavic Pro have follow me, whereby they follow the controller attached to a cell phone that has GPS. DJI controllers are kind of big & heavy to be carrying on a mountain bike so that's not much of an option. It's pretty much the Typhoon H and Wizard remote, or Any DJI product using Activetrack and a clear view of you. My guess is that one day in the not too distant future, DJI will have a small device that fits in a pocket or snaps to your wrist that will cause a drone to follow & film you.
@whazupmike7 жыл бұрын
CAPTAIN DRONE thank you for the quick reply and thorough info. I was looking at Mavic pro too and that might be small enough to fit in my largest bike backpack + Mavic + controller. If the Mavic will follow using the GPS controller then I will take a look once again. I just don't think it has the better intelligent sensing that the typhoons H has. mountain biking = trees

I’m very late but whenever I turn my controller on and I set up everything my controller says realsense not detected but I have realsense and then I can’t do anything
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
Yuneec sells two versions of the Typhoon H. One with Realsense installed and one without. I believe when you have Realsense you have to select it on the ST16. You could try unselecting it, then reboot the ST16, and then select it again.

Just did my first 15 minute flight with the Typhoon H, it was great many thanks to you Captain Drone and your videos which helped greatly. I have two questions was wondering if you would be kind enough to answer, one on the display screen on the ST16 while in flight appears a green triangle , is the head of the triangle indicating the front and or direction of the drone, I would assume so and second, I received an additional small antenna along with the three that were already attached to the ST16 it is about 1 inch tall with a square face about 1 inch by 1 inch, no explanation in the PDF instructions on the SD card, any idea what that might be for? Thanks again for all of your help, David.
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
David Velen The green arrow should point to the direction of your radio controller (the ST16). It is just an item to help you fly towards home when at a distance. I'm not sure what your extra antenna is. Normally small antennas are for video reception and are designed in a shape that allows one to receive video signal when not pointing the ST16 in the direction of the drone. Your drone is a newer model than mine so it could be some optional antenna.

@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
Sound???? You can turn on the sound on the controller within the camera settings (a check box I believe), but I don't recall there being a volume item. Recording sound is not a good thing on a Typhoon H or any drone for that matter. It just sounds really, really bad.

I liked the Typhoon because of the stability and thermal camera available. (looks like a plug and play) Any other suggestions on a selection of drone and thermal cameras? so your motors won't start up in a residential area or in the house?
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
They will start up in your house or in your neighbourhood as long as your house/neighbourhood is not near an airport. If you're near an airport and your Typhoon H has a GPS signal to know where it is, then your motors won't start.

There is only sound if you turn on the sound as an option. The sound is super terrible due to the hum of the motors. The majority of people who fly drones do not record sound from the camera. You'll have to explain what you mean by a scratch.
