So did it work,did it hold a charge, did you replace the epsom salt solution with more acid, what kind of acid did you use, did you really pour out the acid in the grass, how much salt to water ratio did you use, is it still working,
@Ritalie2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I am really confused. Why isn't the battery filled with acid? Just epsom salt? Something doesn't make sense. I would think that flushing it completely out with distilled water, then putting fresh sulfuric acid in it, is the only way to properly restore it?

Right!! Fukkking A. Completely useless video. Also, I’m sure many of you tried this and are pissed off because it does not work!!! Use an old school 200 amp battery charger instead. Turn it on for 15 min then turn off and wait one hour before doing it again. Do this for a total of 5 times. Maybe a couple more times if your battery is really bad. Good luck everyone and practice good safety.

South Africa. Great video thanks. As a student, 50 odd years ago, I also, intuitively, did the same, only cruder. Not all salts were dissolved and I simply poured it into the cells. And it worked.! However, in my young mind, I did the following: I poured out the Acid and quick flushed it with water. Then I poured in Bicarb solution, to penetrate the bottom sediment, that short circuit cell, and to break it up with the bubbly reaction with residue Acid in the bottom sludge. I then rinsed it well to get rid of clusters of sludge. I then poured in my Epson salt concoction in and charged it in reverse polarity. The thinking in my small brain was that, one of the plates were depleted, and if I revers charge it, (my Positive was from now on, my Negative), I could build up the depleted plate with a metal with higher Electro-potential value , on the periodic table. As far as my memory serves, it worked just fine.

I was thinking pouring it in a bucket before he started pouring it out. I like what he did by bring the battery back to life. Go to the junkyard and see if they will let you have the old batteries if you pull them. You could use them in your solar system or as a spare to jump your vehicles. In a truck you could install it and have it only charging and not tied in the electrical system. If the other battery happens to die you can use the other to jump it.
@markfothebeast7 жыл бұрын
Battery plates are soft and break easily. If the plates are deteriorated, the battery is junk. The Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is a temporary solution to help recharge the cells, allowing the sulfuric acid to become acidic once again and "hopefully" dissolve some of the lead sulfate from the plates. This is where I'm at - finding a chemical solution to dissolve the lead sulfate without harming the lead plates in an empty battery. Automotive lead acid batteries are generally 30% to 37% sulfuric acid. As far as I know, the acid has nearly an infinite life without any chemical contamination. The water evaporating from a cell and exposing the plate to air or leaving a battery discharged is what causes most of these issues. Simply adding distilled water back to the cell and trickle charging (3-amps or less) for a few days does wonders. I have mine overcharge to a "safe" boil. I'd gotten almost 24 months out of an old battery this way.

thats why i remade the video and did this again on a chevy love. the link is in the description below

I hope those Zinc-copper plates are not warped. Recharging them incorrectly or even hooking them up to a charger will cause them to explode, usually.
@firebird77clonefirebird892 жыл бұрын
Zinc copper? I worked in a plant producing lead acid batteries, there is only lead(grid) plates and lead oxide plates.

No load test, great cliffhanger. Instead of dumping acid on the ground you might consider saving it for after desulfating, to put back in.

yes, i remade this video last fall with a chevy luv and clear up everything people had issues with regarding the original video here.

Thanks! I have a few dead batteries laying around and I was wondering about what to do with them. I like what you did and I shall try it. Oh! about pouring out the acid on the ground was OK with me.

Jack Frost, what is your channel? Others might want to go there. I have no interest in the things you do with antifreeze, chocolate, oil or the man in the sky. And, I won't vote for another CLINTON.

When you measure the voltage with the charger attached, you are measuring the output voltage of the charger, not the battery.

It didn't work ?
@glenchadwick4204 жыл бұрын
@@briantruck2284 I tried it also on 3 boat battery's that had set for 15 years with no luck. Not all the cells would take a charge. Only a couple of the cells would. I used an old trickle charger first with no luck. Then I tried charging on my 10 amp charger, no luck. Then I tried my 200 amp charger. The cells bubbled and you could see vapors coming out of the cells. Still no luck bringing all 6 cells up. All of the chargers I used were the old style. I heard not to use the "SMART" charger so I used the old types that continue charging until unplugged. I was given 3 more old boat battery's I'm going to give these a shot to see if my luck changed.

In the last part of the video he was supposed to be showing us the BATTERY voltage.HOWEVER he still had the charger connected. All we saw was the charger input voltage to the battery, There was nothing to show us if the battery took a charge or not !! As a good battery discharges lead sulphate forms on the plates. When the battery is charged this sulphation dissipates and the plates return to pure lead for the negative plate and lead oxide for the positive plate. When new this sulphation will take part in the chemical action in the battery as it charges and discharges. If a battery is left discharged the sulphate which is chrystaline starts to compact. After , say, 6 months the sulphation has compacted to a point where it will no longer react chemically when the battery is joined to a charger. The battery is dead. Pulse chargers are supposed to be able to blast holes in this compacted surface but there is still no definite proof that this actually works.The high voltage pulses are more likely to blast the lead paste out of the lead grids that it sits and which also will destroy the battery.

John Davies- voltage is one indicator of battery condition and state of charge but it's amperage that does the work. It's not uncommon for a bad battery to show 12.6v resting and drop to 2-3v when a load is put on it.
@TheOneshot546 жыл бұрын
correct me if i'm wrong but it did say on the vid that charger was switched off at that point

concrete. will slowly drain a battery. put a board under it
@texashillshomesteader24768 жыл бұрын
No it wont, that is a old tale. The reason why people believed that years ago was because concrete can become very cold and the cold drains the battery down, but it will come right back up when warm again. The board under is acting as an insulator.
@bryanvonn22176 жыл бұрын
No the real reason rest in the fact batteries were made w paper coverings the electrolyte would saturate it and would discharge on a hard non absorbent surface like concrete.... temperature is also correctly another reason for a the older less power dence construction years ago. Nothing but a minor temp issue nowdays.
@chucklanzi61076 жыл бұрын
Today's batteries WILL NOT lose their charge sitting on any surface. Consult any battery manufacturer of any brand and they will confirm. Not to mention that they most likely make batteries for multiple name brands so I'm sure all of them can't be wrong
@robertblackwell80746 жыл бұрын
False statement. the first batteries leaked so they had a path to ground, hence a piece of wood to insulate.. With the modern batteries, invention of plastic, era they no longer leak and have no path to ground.you can sit them any where. A little thought would help here instead of repeating what some one told you.
