Agreed. I find it shocking how carelessly many of my contacts spend money on buying a new car, despite being financially unstable. In many cases, the reason is 'status' and 'shashka'. Grant Cordone has a great video on this referencing his younger years, when he drove a simple car despite being a millionaire.

Calculation is fine. I am with you on this. I don't care about cars. It makes me from point A to point B. What matters to me is safety and reliability. There needs to be a balance though and this depends on every person's life situation. Some people enjoy cars, love them, would prefer to buy a new one or an expensive one every year while probably sacrificing on other things like travelling, eating out every day, etc. That's fine too. There's no one right way. Just wanted to point this out because a lot of financial advice on YT is about being frugal and giving up on material stuff and I don't think it matters as long as you enjoy the material possession, even for a while but yes then it means sacrificing on other stuff.

Indeed. It also depends on stage of life one is. But if someone has a target to be financially independent and leave the day job - then changing car just for the sake of it cannot come into the equation.

I am literally in the same dilemma these days. I have a honda civic 95 which is 27 years old and its maintenance is costing me a lot plus its fuel average is very bad and considering the fuel prices in Pakistan I am literally thinking to buy a fuel efficient car but then again prices of cars in Pakistan is sky rocket.. :/

A smaller, newer car might help in that case but the price unfortunately would be on higher side.

ASALAMALAIKUM I have my son in dubai I keep telling him to buy then rent because he is paying 1500 th p/m for a yaris for last 1 years 18000 per year he is a vp in a bank and iam a doctor in pk i think the way u think about long term goals can we have a chat onwattapp
