the cabin structure amounts of the mini cooper seem the most solid, no deformation has the impact, compared to the others

Let's all remember this is small overlap so a much tougher test even for today's standards :P So moderate overlap (into deformable barrier if that isn't the same thing) would turn out much different & probably better ofc Here in Europe we still tend to use the other one I said with 40% overlap so all the tests are automatically easier to pass & hence some of those cars could sort of be deemed slightly unfairly rated.

I remember (1970) when in Driver Training Class we were taught to not even change the radio station whilst behind the wheel. Sneezing for 2 seconds could be catastrophic. Accidents were rare compared to today. In some cars seatbelts were an option. But now since they've placed computer monitors in the dashboard accidents are readily accepted. Airbags are a necessity. (God, I sound like an old fogie).

A common problem seems to be the drivers head missing or side swiping the air bag. An elongated bag design might help.

It won't. The vehicle needs a stronger structure to not make the dashboard move to the right. The steering wheel is connected to the dashboard, and the dashboard shifting to the right takes the Airbag with it. The dashboard also moves BACK into the driver's legs, which produces high loads on the dummy's legs. Might cause a broken bone.

You would definately snap your neck on the last one. There is virtually no side protection. I almost got T-bone on an intersection on my way to work at 5am. It's the reason I always look before I leap. Most people just hit the gas and move forward.😐
