It's the Mercury Montego/ Cougar Body with Ford Torino tail lights and other parts, Mine is Red with a Whorehouse Red interior. Everyone asks why it doesn't have the Starsky and Hutch stripe on it! They don't notice it's not the same car so I plan to paint the stripes on it! I could have used some parts out of this car on it, The sport mirrors, The right side parts of the heater housing and heater motor and various other parts to it. But it's too late now!

My former business partner in my body shop bought a wrecked 81 Pontiac Pheonix back when they were new, the guy lost it on ice on the interstate and spun a couple 360's and hit a light pole with the front corner! Just as he breathed a sigh of relief that the accident was minor and there was very little damage the pole fell on the car taking the roof out! He bought the car for salvage value plus a hundred or two so the guy was satisfied and put a roof on it and gave it to his wife to drive! His son named it the ''Pregnant Armadillo'' It was a good car but it was ugly!

@organrick4 жыл бұрын
Our family had a couple of them, a 1980 and a 1983. We traded the 1980 one in-I remember it needed a transmission, and we had a gray AMC Pacer as a loaner car, and as I remember, it (the 1980 one) had problems with water leaking in (it had a sunroof, so that might have been part of it, but it might not have been factory.) My guess is they probably felt they had gotten a lemon. It was a used car that was maybe a year or two old when we got it, but that might have been why it was for sale..., someone unloaded it. It seemed to have a lot of issues for a 1 or 2 year old vehicle. My grandparents also had a couple of them, first the coupe, then they bought the 2 door hatchback version. They probably didn’t have services like Carfax back then, where you can get the history of the vehicle (where it was registered, services done, title searches, accident records, etc., at least as long as it was something that was documented.)

These cars (GM X-bodies) had a deservedly terrible reputation for a key safety defect: a panic stop could send the vehicle out of control. The weight was extremely front biased, even for a front wheel drive car, and a panic stop could really lift up the rear end!
