Man I wish this channel had been around before 2020 because my dad would have loved this channel. My dad was a certified beach bum and he was the most talented fisherman I have ever known. But he was even moreso talented at finding sharks teeth. He'd walk for miles up and down the beach looking for sharks teeth and it wasn't unheard of for him to find hundreds of teeth in one day. He even found a couple massive megalodon teeth in his lifetime. He was 6 foot tall and didn't have to bend over to find them even in a huge pile of broken shells and debris, he would just spot one, flip it over with his toe to make sure and then he'd bend down and put in his jar lol he said shark teeth have a different shine to them. He taught me how to look for teeth and even though I'm pretty good at it, I'm nowhere near as good as he was. He left behind thousands of teeth when he passed away in January 2020 at 54 years of age. If he saw kids looking for teeth, he'd go over to where they were looking, find teeth and give them away. We loved watching shark week and things like that, it would have been cool to watch these videos with him. I sure do miss him everyday, these videos make me think of him and for that, I'm thankful

Yes, thank you so very much, Third Eye 2020, for sharing all this about your dad!!!! I spent a lot of time in the ocean, as a kid, up in Rhode Island, and on the New Jersey shore and down in Florida, where we move to Palm Beach, the island. Besides going to the University of Miami and going down all the way to Key West and back up, etc., etc.! And we/I love to pick up shells on the beach, etc., but was not aware of sharks teeth!!! I don’t know why?! I’ve held Sharkstooth and cinnamon before, but I wasn’t seeing them at all, Emily would walk the beach or beaches!!! And I have this love of sharks!! After finding a small sand shark in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island in New Jersey, when I was in grade school years ago!! We lived outside of Philadelphia then. Anyway, I picked up that same shark that was dead and took it back to our cottage, where I hung the shark up on the clothesline!! So I got to feel his rough skin, etc.!!!!! I have done a lot of swimming and body surfing in the ocean, besides quite a bit of snorkeling… I also got certified scuba diving up in Alaska… But I never got to see any sharks in the water!!! Makes me think of where we lived up in Alaska… There were moose all around us basically, but I didn’t get to see them a lot!!! A neighbor across the street told me that there was a big moose laying in our backyard! But I never got to see the moose!! Also there were bear sightings all the time in our subdivision there… They would post it at the park nearby, saying to beware! My son and I found Bear scat/droppings not far from our house!!! But did not see any bear that day or other day just for that matter!! Woe is me!!! Ha, ha!!!!

@@interestedlen8823 well, the story was absurd. Example=the day after the boy Alex kintner was devoured, his mother strode onto the beach in full mourning regalia. If I had a child eaten alive, I doubt my wife would buy a mourning outfit(with veil, lol) and I'm sure we'd not pack such apparel for our beach getaway. Not to mention that the shark looked mechanical. "The wizard of Oz" was more believable. Hal definitely conducts a compelling and honest show, whereas all Spielberg did was to go for sensationalism that , as David Letterman would often say, was "hard to believe." But I give you the right to be wrong in your views.

His videos are entertaining but also irresponsible. I've heard him spout unfounded nonsense about sharks in a few of his videos, for example their feeding patterns and using their jaws as a feeler. He's not a marine biologist and nor is he educated in the field. Making emotional judgements and, frankly, unhinged rants to appeal to his own opinions on shark attacks is irresponsible. If he reads this and wishes to reply, then we'll see.

Even the wizard was a man behind a curtain, and the lion wasn't really convincing , imho. Edit: pretty sure they had shops in Amity too, the mother probably got her mourning attire from a store, and she seemed like the kind of over the top lady who mourns very different to you, she may have wanted to join her son and was giving the shark a chance to take her.. just saying.

You're statement about as long as you're facing the shark they will probably think twice is spot on. It's not just GWs that are very aware of whether a person is watching them. It was drilled into us as kids snorkeling in the Keys to not sit there treading water yakking for 5 minutes. More times than not as soon as you stuck your head down, there was 1 or 2 Reef sharks and the occasional Mako heading heading directly for you which would immediately veer off to the side like a pickpocket pretending they were just passing by.

Remember about when Sharks bite and leaves.....it doesn't necessarily preclude a predation. A common predation method is to bite and go away at a distance and to wait until it's prey bleeds out. It could just bite and have been waiting 40-60 yards away for the victim to bleed out before approaching in order to avoid harm to it's self.

That is an excellent point. I 100% agree with you. Sometimes a big great white has been doing this method on seals and sea lions for many meals. @@reactivereplays5666 I 100%agree with u. When a great whit hits a large seal or sea lion it often waits close by for the mammal to bleed out and become still in the water. A good method to avoid an injury from a struggle as well. Even a seal could take an eye out when it’s fighting for its life. Hal may be missing several attempts to predate. Repost from last video: Hi Hal, let me tell you why I think you're spot on: When we are out on the boats, delivering or what have you, we catch fish as we go, obviously. This we do by hanging a 60m (200ft) line off the back of the boat, clipped to the pushpit (which is a metal railing at the back of the yacht) by a clothes peg. When the fish bites, it pulls the clip of of the pushpit and we know we have a bite. Now I would say that one in five or so are taken by a shark, but not while the line is loose. They wait until I start to pull the line in. They wait until the forward drag of the fish stops it being able to manoeuvre. THEY ARE WATCHING HUMAN BEHAVIOIUR and using it to secure a clean and easy kill. They have complete understanding of what I am doing and are able to modify their hunting behaviour based upon mine. Misidentification cannot be responsible for very many of these attacks at all, as they understand completely what I am and what I am doing. I am convinced of this based upon their behaviour.

I have an unwavering respect for the ocean...always have... and as I was growing up, going from a teenager, to a young man...there was many a time I'd go to the beach with my friends...Santa Monica, Huntington Beach, Leo Carrillo, Zuma,.....I'd never go too deep, but there was one instance, I was in about chest deep, north of Santa Barbara...there was three or four of my friends with me, partially cloudy, 2 or 3 in the afternoon....we had been in and out of the surf all afternoon and we're having a great time..... All of a sudden, the surf stopped, or it was a longer lull between swells...and from nowhere, I became overcome with a sense of total dread...it was the ugliest feeling , that even while having it , couldnt understand why......until it dawned on me , that what I felt, was the same feeling I had , when I had an encounter with a mountain lion at night...and as soon as that thought passed thru my mind, I suddenly realized I was in murky four to five foot deep water, that had little seal groups hanging out on the rocks nearby, forty to fifty yards offshore...my gut went cold, and a massive shadow passed a few feet behind me, between me and one of my friends...I felt the rush of displaced water, that was noticeably colder rush past me...as I turned around the massive shadow was just passing me, and when it got about six feet away, I caught the silohuette of it's fins contrasted against the lighter green water, as it's tail whipped so close to me , about three inches broke the surface.......I saw it was battleship gray, AND I SWEAR I ROSE VERTICALLY TIL THE BOTTOMS OF MY FEET WERE THE ONLY PARTS OF ME TOUCHING THE WATER, I WAS RUNNING SO FUKN FAST... My friends seeing me sprint over the water, must have caused them to notice the shadow about the size of my car, inside our group.... The sheer panic breaking down into horror, the five of us went through right then, was soo bad, that I couldn't force myself to remember it in detail for almost a year! my psyche blocked it out..... That shark had us dead to rights, if it had wanted us... I feel that it knew exactly what it was doing...but whether I'm correct, or it is just a product of my imagination , I'll never know. my instinct tells me it was pissed because we were there, making too much noise for it to hunt those seals....It knew we'd freak the fuck out upon sight of it, and exit it's waters...which we instantly did... these are only my speculations, but on a deeper, more ingrained level... I'm no zoologist, but those animals are A LOT more intelligent than we ever give them credit for...and there is nobody that can tell me different!

One woman fell from the vehicle while it was hanging on the cliff face and was eaten by the pack of shark, but the other three people were inside when it plunged into the water. The problem with experts is trying to pin down there only being one reason for shark attacks. Attacks, bites, etc happen for a myriad of reasons. Curiosity, hunger, taste test, territorial etc. and the lists goes on. Just like experts claiming sharks don't like the taste of humans. Some do, some don't. Just like humans like some foods and not others. Saying sharks don't like the taste of humans is the same thing as saying humans don't like the taste of beef. These self appointed shark "experts" make me laugh. There is no such thing. There are people who know and learn a heck of a lot about sharks, it doesn't make them "experts". It makes them knowledgeable, not experts.

Dolphins usually roll in large groups. That way they have eyes on each other. Coupled with their intelligence, it makes turning one into supper for a GWS a very difficult task. Even youngsters are a tough catch, as they're fiercely guarded. However, like you mentioned Hal, the GWS will go after an injured/sick dolphin. It's often because the injured/sick dolphin is separated from its group, can't keep up/left behind, which makes it a much easier catch for a hungry GWS. 🐬🍴🦈 Great work as always Hal. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. 👍

Hey Hal, I'm Valerie. I have been in the water more than out my whole life and a lifelong coastal Floridian. When people ask me what I think the most dangerous shark is my answer has always been "the one you don't see". So, I am glad to hear someone finally bringing attention to the fact that A) sharks are not mindless people eaters, they are sound thinkers with a purpose for what they do. and B) if you take a little time to educate yourself on the behavior of wild animals (and fish) before you enter their environment, you have a much better chance in an encounter. Thanks for your hard work. I really enjoy your channel.

My old room mate was a researcher for FAU and he was part of the dolphin and whale rescue team. He was the guy you saw on TV whenever there's a beached whale here in Florida. He also had most of his teeth knocked out from the dolphins they had to help. Not their fault, they're distressed. But I learned just how nasty dolphins can be. Ruined whatever fairytale image I had of them. 1st off they are sexually addicted pervert rapists. Sometimes the males of one pod will gangbang a female from another pod literally till she dies from trauma. Every pod is infected with 2-3 STDs with rampant dolphin herpes causing blindness later in life. They are so horny that no species is safe, not even humans. Woman researchers aren't allowed on the water with wild dolphins when they are menstruating bcuz the males will relentlessly try to stick their dolphin ding dongs in. And their all gay, which is cool. That's cool, but their kinda racist. Like if one pod member has spots, the others will one day attack and kill the spotted one, even though it was already a pod member. These are open ocean wild dolphins, not the local pods or aquarium dolphins

Great show, Hal… Persistence, study of all details from the attacks, questioning the opinions of “experts” and analyzing the facts can lead to the truth… I live in Greece and -like many others watching your channel- have been obsessed with shark attacks for quite a long time. Trying to catch up with the previous episodes of your show, I came across your report of the 1951 attack on Vanda Pierri. I don’t know if you have already mentioned this, but there was another fatality in Corfu island -before 1900. It took place at Mandraki beach, in July of 1847. The victim was a British soldier, William Mills, 19. A large GW swam among local bathers and Mills’ fellow soldiers straight towards the poor guy, probably like having picked him specifically, grabbed him and sank again. One bite, he was gone. I believe they had found some remains a few days later, but I’m not really sure about that. It was in all newspapers at the time. The tragic loss of Mr Mills had also become the inspiration for a great poem by one of our major poets, D. Solomos. The poem, written in 1849, is called “Porphyras”, which was a word used for large sharks by the inhabitants of the Ionian Islands. There was even a University Course in Modern Greek Literature including that poem… Another fatality was the attack on Dim. Parassakis, 17, in September of 1948 on a beach near the Port of Pireaus. His friends witnessed the attack, talking about a 6-6.5 m. white shark. First bite severed his arm, second bite swallowed him from head to the waist. Then the shark took the rest of the body and disappeared. Nothing was found, the young man was completely consumed. Same as with H. Pogle in Trikeri island, 1963, same as with V. Pierri in Corfu. No test bites, no mistaken identity, no bumping, just three purely predatory attacks, with the victims ending up being eaten alive in shallow waters -only the attack on V. Pierri took place in 6-7 m. of water.. If I’m not mistaken, we had 14 recorded shark attacks in nearly 170 years in Greek waters. Eleven out of fourteen were fatal ! The total number is not great, the last recorded fatality was in 1983, I believe (a very strange case, indeed), but the ratio is scary… Fact : The older I get, the closer to the shore I swim… Keep up the good work, already lookin’ forward to the next show!

In August 1986 in Ocho Rio Jamaica I was returning to shore after snorkelling for a few hours along the reef about 300 yards offshore. I had swum outside about 100' when the water got very deep and gloomy. As I turned to make my way to shore, I had a creepy feeling. The hairs on my neck actually rose and gave me a chill. I did a 360* and looked as far as I could see. Just as I began to swim to shore I was attacked by a 10-12 foot hammerhead. Its head from eye to eye was at least as long as my arm. I fought it with a knife and it disappeared in seconds. Vis was about 100'. I made it to shore. The longest swim of my life. I have since returned to the water and am an avid spearman. But, I am constantly looking behind me. Now I contend with bulls in the Gulf of Mexico.

In response to the FIRST post of yours about no great white attacks off Fl/NC, yeah right. I’m with you I’m sure it’s for tourists! Today you mentioned a dolphin being eaten, sad. When I was 7 I lived in a rural Fl town ( literally dredging and making places for houses!) I had a large swap to my right, my small yard fell into a canal just a bit down the road on the right there was a point- everything flowed there The Gulf and Inter coastal way. Long story short I was swimming in a whole lotta water and got hit pretty good in the side by a young lemon shark and out of no where a pod of dolphins surrounded me as I swam for shore. I've been watching your show. I lived in Florida for 35 years. I had a boat. I had tiger sharks swim around me. They encircle you to decide if they should approach. I keep hearing that shark attacks are so "rare" but actually I am led to believe otherwise. I actually believe that the ocean temperatures are warming up and the sharks food chain has been interrupted. The sharks are actually being habituated to "humans". Like if you live in Florida you don't feed alligators as it causes them to lose their fear of humans. In the sea the natural patterns have been disrupted due to global warming etc. The sharks are actually learning a new behavioral pattern I'm afraid to say. They come into shore to feed on sting rays, sea lions etc. depending on the area but have increasingly more attacks on humans. Beach goers, surfers, snorkelers. This is no accident. They have existed since prehistoric times and now they are learning that if they are hungry they can just come close to shore and find an alternative food source. This is actually monumental in their development and should be reported as such. When bigger sharks get lazy or hungry they just need to go closer to shore and find food sources not well equipped to escape them...

I agree. Animals don't survive for eons without the ability to adapt to changes in the environment. In times of scarcity due to injury, old age, or usual food source disruption, an animal that doesn't adapt dies. There are more predatory bear attacks in years when drought disrupts berry supply.

Two people were killed one being person was savagely eaten by 14 sharks when he fell out of the car. One person feared dead and one believed to be a child had serious injuries and said was trapped in the car. So what it sounds like is the person trapped in car went into the sea with the car.

Whaler, blue whaler, bronze whaler, black whaler were all interchangeable names for mid sized carcharhinids depending on colour. Im guessing even bull sharks were referred to as whalers in old attacks. Back then people did not have the knowledge to distinguish so all sorts of mid size sharks were just "whalers".

Freakin scary man. I still can believe people get way out in the ocean and swim. I live in Sarasota but I don't get past my knees normally. I used to wade fish alot on flats n stuff but not anymore. I hate that feeling of thinking a shark is behind you😱

Just watched a clip of surfers going out on boards, throwing a line with a fish on it and paddling back in to see if they can hook a white. Insane

I used to wade fish a lot too , on the Gulf Coast. The water looks like chocolate milk in Louisiana. I had a nice stringer of speckled trout and all of a sudden it felt like my left leg was being ripped off, it hurt so bad. I got out of the water as fast as I could , fully expecting to see a bite on my leg , lucky for me , it was just a sting ray. I had no idea just how much getting whacked by a sting ray could hurt. I went ahead and took Mother Natured advice and quit surf fishing . Be careful , keep your head on a swivel , most attacks are in surprisingly shallow water.

@@SharksHappen Chatswood is near Middle Harbour. Not on it. Seaforth is right there. We did a job there several years ago. A young fella used to go out at 6am every morning to catch Tailor. He said there were sharks everywhere. The Navy use Middle Harbour for their Clearance Team training. It is the deepest part of Sydney Harbour.

Indeed it's not on the harbour or the water, but there's the nearby Lane Cover River, Shark Attack File says that's where Stanley was swimming - sharkattackfile.net/spreadsheets/pdf_directory/1903.01.10-James.pdf - Chatswood in 1903 might have been on the water. The river's very silty and polluted these days, would have been pristine back then and a nice spot to swim, shame about the bull sharks ... this story also hit home because years ago I fell into the Lane Cove River at Chatswood West, even swam about for a bit, sharks didn't cross my mind at the time, but wouldn't do that again!
