Your opinion.....went over railroad tracks, not going fast at all, but the usual bumpiness....Then got the 'CHECK ELECTRICAL SYSTEM' in my 2011 Honda Pilot Touring.....I was able to drive is for over 20 miles to get home, but there was shuddering at times.....Anyway, tried to restart it a bit later and wouldn't work.....I switched batteries to see if it was that, no difference(so couldn't start it without jump starting it)...Jump started it and if you keep the battery charger hooked up to the battery it stays at around 14.....Once you remove those clamps, it goes down really fast....from 14 volts to about 5 volts in less than 2 to 3 minutes, which I shut the car off(one time it shut off by itself doing this jumping stuff).......After all that, IYO, would a BUMP from the railroad tracks cause an ALTERNATOR to quit, or is it more likely that a GROUND decided to loosen? or anything else thanks...

Solved a parasitic drain on 2015 Civic with Keyless Entry system with much credit to this video. Ended up being RF outer door handle causing draw of 200ma. It was not easy at all to find the issue but I would highly suggest going right to the Keyless Access Control Unit as it is the easiest thing to disconnect when looking for a draw on this particular vehicle and circuit. The back up fuse controls at least about 50 components on the vehicle, so you don’t want to waste a lot of time disconnecting things that don’t need to be disconnected. This is one of the hardest issues to diagnose on any car, if you are having this issue and are not a professional mechanic or a heavily experience DIYer, then I would highly suggest you take it to a reputable shop that specializes in electrical diag. I am a B Tech with a few years of experience, and it took me probably 6-8 hrs of research and disassembly to finally figure it out. Keep in mind I have been working on cars for about 3 yrs have done timing chains, valve adjustments, transfer case, etc some medium to heavy repairs and diag. Just to make the point that I would say it is far more difficult than those tasks. If you take it somewhere and they tell you to start replacing a bunch of parts, you need to go to another shop. It is 100% possible to determine the specific component that is causing the draw, but it is highly difficult. Thanks for the great video, from one mechanic to another, you really made figuring out this issue not such a nightmare. Also I charged the customer 3 hrs of labor for this issue, I did not want them to have to pay for my inexperience, but I feel that is a fair starting point for an issue of this nature.

One culprit causing this problem may be the bottom window seals allowing moisture to leak onto the door actuator, on my 2015 civic I noticed the rubber seals do not clear the window condensation when rolled up and down, this means they are not preventing moisture from going inside the door. Great in-depth Video, enjoyed how you chased down the problem.

Hector,i wish i knew someone with your expertise. I live in n. Ireland and my poor car actuators are on the fritz. One door is locked inside and outside. But no one wants to touch it. 😢 an electronics expert who has the volkswagon dealer software, says all that registers is not enough power supply for the actuator of the stuck door. The near side front door ,which is the front passenger and on the left side of the car, which is the other side to the stuck lock,is not locking. It makes no noise at all. I have a new actuator for the stuck door. Looks like i need a new front near side actuator too. This is a great condition 2006 seat ibiza sport 1.4 petrol. It has served me well in the six years i have driven it. Actuators seem to be the achilles heel of volkswagen, seat, audi, and skoda, same maker, same parts. Loved your video. Many thanks

I called the Honda dealership that I bought 2014 Honda Civic from in 2014 and have had service it since. Bottom line: 1. The design engineers clearly have put in circuits that parasitically draw from the battery at all times. All new cars now have this engineering. 2. The manufacturer should probably post a notice that in order to keep the car able to start you must drive so many miles in such a manner every day. So if you are elderly and depend upon your car but don't drive it much.....get a real old car or use a battery tender.

Hektor, just saw your video, very well done and explained. It is a great help. I do have a question because I do not know a lot about auto-electrical issues. I have a 2004 Honda Civic 1.7 LX. I changed Starter, Alternator, and Battery and today, after 5 days with the new battery, it did not start. Where should I start being that old of a car? I am located in Toledo, Ohio. I am not sure if there are a lot of electrical experts in my city; but, if there are, how much approximately would they charge for diagnosing the car? I am in a real pickle right now because I can't buy another car so I am trying to find a solution. Many thanks for any answer you can provide.

Any way for a non-mechanic to get power distribution diagrams? My car needs to be jumped every day, and even after a couple hours, it needs to be jumped again. Autozone tested battery and alternator, both were good. I definitely know the alternator is good as it does charge while driving and if I turn the car off, come back 30 minutes later it seems to start. After about an hour, that changes and it won't start. Not sure how I can test the battery myself to make sure it's not just kermitting sewer slide.
