The diesels are competent, but in my opinion, the reason you buy a Honda is because you want to thrash it, you want to rev the hell out of it, you want to feel the V-Tec kick in, that’s what the Honda experience is about, and that’s why I’d get the 1.8. Great review Mr Crouch

I bought one for my son to learn to drive in. I was worried about the split back window, however now I have driven the car a few times the window brings me a feeling of safety. It’s the VTI-L which has the paddles on the steering wheel to change the gears. If you want some fun just kick it down a couple of gears and put your foot down 😊. I absolutely love the car.

Very good review. Just bought a 2.2 i-dtec. Drives well once you turn off the ECON mode with the button. With it on it felt a bit lethargic. Handles better than the Mk8 Civic 1.8 VTEC I have driven for a bit n the past. Rear seat legroom good but headroom not great for people over 6ft if they sit back in the seat. I have a basic ES and even that has auto-on lights and wipers and cruise control if you care about that sort of thing. The interior is nicer than a mk8 Civic and coming to the car from a Mk4 VW Golf makes me realise that the Golf had more rattles than Mothercare. The Civic is 11 years old at this point and doesn''t have a single squeak or rattle in the interior which is impressive. Well done Swindon 👍🏻

I don’t see much of honda civics in UK. I can’t understand why because they’re so practical, reliable and have enough power. Meanwhile every street is littered with Mercedes, BMW Audi VW

It is because of snobbery. Nobody will admire you if they see you in a Honda, but the true car experts will know that you know what you bought and why.

want to get civic for its smooth drive an power at lower revs .....1.8 or 2.2 diesel cant decide

Diesel if you want to drive below 3000rpm and get good power, peak torque on the 2.2 is around 2800rpm, it's 4300rpm with the 1.8. The 1.8 is very relaxed at low RPM and you make progress by building speed in 2nd gear really, the 2.2 you keep shifting up through the gears to keep riding the torque.

The VTEC will have all the power in the upper limit of the rev range, if you want pull at low revs, get the diesel

Considering one of these but not sure about the torque, seems high up the rev range. I prefer a relaxing drive and not having to rev and having power low down in the rev range.

If the ever reliable Honda Jazz isn’t good enough for you for being sluggish and gutless in hills, then the 1.8 liter Civic will compensate that. Just as dependable and low maintenance as Honda Jazz but more power available when you needed.

These are wonderful and good quality motor cars, I own one, but nearly always choose the Yaris, and only use the Civic for long trips. It just goes to show, less is more. Main criticism with this Civic is it's approximating 4mm high, just too low for older bones.

Great cars, for banging your rear seat passengers heads in to the roof. Fit the rear seats from the Fit/Jazz to a car half as high, off the pub to drink lots of Saki, jobs a goodin.

Carwow is only for entertainment, just like top gear. Those shows must be avoided when trying to shop for a car and you need sensible information.
