I have an audi and I have been looking for someone to attampt this and with this subwoofer. love it bro! this will help guide my custom install. for us audi guys a box is not possible as our trunk is small. I dont care if the sound is the best only that we have trunk space and it sounds better than stock. the look is just the cherry on top and this method is really close to oem look. great that the customer wanted it this way for sure. james your the only guy who seems to have posted this version on the net. I hope youll do more like this on your own time and share it.

Hi James, a few things i thought of... 1.) using a bit of butyl rope in those areas where there could be small gaps between the woofer and wood or rear deck. 2.) where the 70mm bolts go through the woofer either a.) blue loctite or b.) use 75-80mm bolts and a nyloc lock-nut on the bottom side of the woofer. It wouldn't look as sleek as it is now, but a lot more mechanically secure for the long term. at a minimum, back the 70's out one-by-one and put in the blue loctite if you haven't already. 3.) if the customer does want a box, simply build a 5-sided box (top open) and mount it, sealed to the deck as well. The rear deck would form the baffle & and does not undo all the work you've done. Not to mention acoustically, having it fire through into the passenger compartment is better than having the box in the trunk. Anyway, cheers, mate. It's looking great!

Just did this sub mount in my VE commodore. Does not boom like in a box but sounds way better than stock. Looks awesome as well. Cheers brother. Love your channel. Great advice.

Hey James! I know that you worked hard on mounting the woofer to the package tray and I really liked how it turned out. However, I honestly think that woofer is going to sound horrible in a free air environment. Of coarse, we all know this means installing a speaker box. Obviously money doesn't seem to be too much of an issue for the customer. So, what if you took some carboard templates and measurements and built the box into the bottom side of the package tray? The width of the tray should keep it from going very much lower and you could carpet it. That way it would look like some kind of cover for a trunk (boot) support rod setup. More labor for the shop, clean install that doesn't leave your work at a waste, and great video foder! And congrats, you've had Steve Meade, Doug Bernards, and Mark from the fab kitchen (just ribbing) now you have Five Star and Carphonix commenting too! You're really stepping up in the car audio world!

Hey man I love the installs you do. They're always fun to watch them progress and the ways you tackle the issues that always arise. But man you should use some glasses when drilling upside down so you don't mess up your eyes with metal bits. Best of luck with finishing this Audi man.

Nice work! I had a couple thoughts. One, I would recommend dumping the cordless drill in favor of an impact driver. I hardly ever reach for my drill since I got one. You can switch to all quick release bits (no more chuck) for drilling, driving, sockets, etc. They are much smaller, so lighter and works in tight spaces. They apply torque in a way that is easy to manage and easy on the wrist. Put one on your Christmas list:-) Also, you might throw a similar 10" in a basic sealed box and you could demo an AB comparison between the infinite baffle and a small enclosure for us and for the client. This is where an SPL meter would come in handy -- not a full blow RTA, just a hand-held meter. That would give at least one quantitative measure in addition to your SQ observations. Just a thought. Great idea. But if you go back and check out the Q&A episode where James was talking about preference in power tools, those drills belong to the shop. Shop tools are free but, the impact driver would be coming out of his own pocket. No bueno for a working man that's about to get married.

Should've gone with the enfig dash kit and harness (not sure they're available in NZ though). They're 2 piece and easily removable . Even uses the factory mounting points.

Nice work! So glad I watched this video and how you mounted the sub. Was wondering if this was possible for my 02 DeVille, since I have never seen anyone do this before. Now I know you can although I rather have mine mounted in a sealed box mounted to the rear deck. Keep up the good work!

Nice job! You are pro. I did it more simper way and just did the same adapter but kutting little bit iron on a car with a steel scissor and it goes really smooth in only couple of hours work.

Great mounting job however this is not an open air sub. I understand customer is paying and you did a fantastic job but don't believe this will sounds that good.

A lot of work for a clean install which will probably sound like booboo in the end. I would've convinced the costumer to put it in a box. Looks really good though.

I'm worried with two things: 1) does that sub work in Infinite baffle setups? Or free air since that trunk is not sealed off from the cabin. 2) is that sheet metal strong enough to dampen the vibrations coming off that sub. My guess is he will be back for a box. But hey, if they're paying for it, that's job security if I've ever seen it

Hi I got a Audi A4 2005 model and I wanted to change the sub woffer I took all screw out of the sub but Sub won’t come off it like it cover with the car interior does anyone know how to take it out and I just want to replace sub woffer with another inch sub like a solo bric Kicker please if anyone could help no video on KZbin just this but he didn’t show how to take Sub out let me know thanks you
