yeah, i had fun running two lots of speaker wire to each door on my B7. I found someone else who had done it by shaving off the plastic at the bottom of the plug on the door sill which give enough room for 12 gauge wire. I had to grind away a little bit of metal underneath to allow the second run of wire. You have to end up pulling the entire boot off the door as well as the inner part of the rubber boot is taped to the wires. As for the door pods, i just created new ones out of 2 layers of 18mm MDF, which gives more or less the same depth as the factory ones with enough room to mount my Hertz ML 1650 Legends clearing the window guide and plenty of space for the the door card. I made the door pods with a cnc router (perks of where i work). See if you can convince Pat to get one, once you start building up a library of designs, will make the jobs quicker and easier.

Instead of using silicone to hold the crossover mounts you can use 3m Panel bond adhesive they have different ones with short drying time instead of waiting all day for the silicone

I used the stock speaker enclosures for my kickers on all 4 doors of my 2004 Audi S4 b6(same body style) and they sounded fantastic I wouldn't bother ordering rings.

In relation to courtesy lights not working - on a lot of european cars, if you leave a door open for too long, it will automatically turn off the courtesy and puddle lights to save power. Close the door and reopen it and see if they come back on again

This happens to my car also, but the trunk light stays on as long as the trunk is open.

Did you guys get the B6 shape (that one) a bit later in NZ? Looks like all the gear you planned for was B5 which ran to early 2001. Great install, fitting aftermarket speakers is never a straight swap with the vag cars! I've been struggling for magnet mounting depth for my flax in the front of my Phaeton, bass speakers are reverse mounted in doors, baskets aiming towards door cards, then mids in thier own pod, tweets in A-pillar. Took a lot of trimming of back of door card! I've been loving your content recently, its good to see a more day to day blog type format.

When you order parts for the audi, make sure you are looking for the B6 2001 model, it's easy to mistake with parts for the B5 2001.

Same with the B7 and B8 which were both in production in 2008. B6 and B7 however shared most parts.

I recently got a 2018 audi a4 sedan s-line edition with the bang and Olsen 19 speakers set up. I purchased a set of focal components 165as3 I have a hertz mille pro 4 channel amp to push them but was told by a audio shop that I would need a line out convertor or audio processor and am wondering what I should get? I also have a 10 inch alpine type r subwoofer with a jl audio jx1000/1 mono amp that's going to be hooked up.

I was always warned not to put he crossover inside the door itself it panel due to moisture etc, although I have never seen that happen, have you ever ran into that problem?

+Jesse Gunderson moisture can be a problem if you put it INSIDE the door (where the window goes) But never been a problem in between the door and door card. Even less likely in this car because it's really well sealed around the door

Not enough to worry about. Might worry about it in a smaller sealed box but even then..
