Interesting, I always thought that stars like the sun produce helium by directly fusing hydrogen in the form of deuterium together! I didn't know that other elements are involved in the production of helium!

The sun does both. The CNO cycle becomes more dominant as the star increases in mass.

But most helium is actually primeval from the Big Bang, right? Stars also fuse much of their own helium before dying AFAIK.

Ron if you find a way to turn that crystal into a diamond let me know cause I have one just like it.

I'm afraid that's impossible. The glass the "gem" is made from only Silicon and Oxygen, no Carbon. Oh well... Maybe we can squish some of your tomatoes into diamonds - not as delicious... Ron

OK, David, you have me there. Caught me an a bald-faced lie. And I actually hate lying on the beach. Going to Antarctica and working like hell with all sorts of interesting researchers is my idea of a great vacation... Ron

But... he would be showing us a real diamond of that mega-size and not a fact-simile. Sure he would have sold it for easier and more luxurious living but he'd still would keep a photo or video-record.
