Both the Dodge Charger and Plymouth Road Runner were similar cars built on the same platform. Both cars had the same engine/transmission, but different body panels and interior. Both were equipped with 383, 440, and 426 Hemi V8 engines. The 440 V8 in the Charger was called the Magnum. When equipped in the Road Runner, it was called the Commando. Both Mopar cars were awesome.

I had a '69 Charger back in the day. That car had a mind of it's own. It wasn't happy going slow. It wanted to go fast. I had the 383 which wasn't a hemi but it was very quick off the line and in the top end. It was pretty rare for a Mustang or Camarro to beat me. Me and my buddies had a ball in that car and drove it all over rural Ohio and Michigan. Sure, it would sip some gas but back then gas was like $1.25 a gallon.

I had 2 1969 Road Runners in the late 70's - 80's. Beasts! Rebuilt both and set them up with Holly carbs and Transmission kits. Good Times! A lot of the new cars are seconds faster in the quarter but driving 'old school' just felt right.

randy95023 yep they felt right because of the rawness of the muscle. I have a 2010 Challenger SRT8 and love its performance but no matter what I do, it's nothing like the old Mopars

@@lovethesmellofracefuelinth7374 and randy95023, maybe so, but the old-school Mopar engines would absolutely get thrashed by new-school Mopar engines, and I am a fan of old-school Mopar. However, the Hellephant crate engine kit is the best of both worlds. Sadly, they are not street legal, or so Mopar/FCA claims, anyway.

Pax Humana oh yeah the performance of the 3gen hemis are second to none, and that includes the 426 cross ram and hemi engines. I'm referring to the crude in your face raw power as opposed to more, but you must also consider that the hellephant and Hellcat mills are also blown. Where has those old motors were all NA, so it's really not an adequate comparison anyway

@@lovethesmellofracefuelinth7374 It's interesting how so much of the positive refinements take away what makes the old ones sound special. The new ones just don't have that awesome low end grunt and choppy idle! I'm guessing mostly because of variable valve timing and higher power bands...

Nope. Closeup @9:45 shows Roadrunner grille (same as Satellite). GTX has honeycomb grille. Hood bulge and side ducts are on both GTX and Roadrunner.

orange70383 The movie is "Bad Georgia Road," from 1977. It's at the beginning of the video. "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" is a different movie. That bit shouldn't be in this video. IMO.

American muscle ...the badazz factor about it very few have realised is "" you can take that big powerhouse anywhere no matter it is off-road, cliff or so without worrying about your fancy fiberglass or carbon fibre body to be broken."" It's almost mannish Metal..now enjoy that big V8 and go deliver my moonshine to downhill.
