Luckily the CX-50 Premium Hybrid has 17" rims, with 225/65 tires. Premium Plus only gives headsup display, folding mirrors, and ventilated seats. Not worth the price increase and larger rims to me. For the Rav4 you have to go down to the LE/XLE trims.

Mazda for sure. For the same money, you're getting the tried and true Toyota hybrid powertrain(the one thing they're truly excellent on), but a more premium vehicle. Mazda even manages to offer more features for the same money. Obviously it will also have better dynamics and a more planted driving experience. Toyota's resale will come into play, but the ownership experience will probably be better on the Mazda.

Mazda is missing a heated steering wheel and spare tire. Toyota also comes with up to 10 years of free roadside and emergency assistance. Great comparison video! I didn't drive the CX-50 before I bought my 24 RAV4 XSE Hybrid (a year ago next week). The fuel economy was so much better in the RAV since Mazda didn't have a hybrid at the time. I've enjoyed my RAV4 but it definitely would have been a harder decision if I was buying now instead of then. I do have to say, I absolutely love the 360 cameras on the RAV and have really appreciated the small size of the RAV. I feel like I can park it just about anywhere. I love the look of the CX-50 a little better and the sportier handling and nicer interior would be major pluses. Also, when it comes down to Bose and JBL, I haven't heard a JBL system that I like near as much as a BOSE system... so Mazda would win there too. They both could use to make the interiors quieter. I know that's one of the complaints I've noticed most when seeing comments about the RAV... based on the cabin sound test, looks like Mazda faired just slightly worse... gotta improve on that.

Your comment is pretty much how I feel about these two cars. Three drawbacks (for me) with the CX-5...slightly less mpg, a little larger (not as easy to park), and lack of a 360 degree camera and digital rear view mirror. These are features I wish the Mazda had, but not a deal breaker either. If I buy the CX-5 Premium hybrid that would save me $4700 over the Rav4 XSE hybrid I ordered 3 months ago (I'm still waiting). The Mazda is on the dealer lot and ready to buy right now. Most likely I'll go with the CX-50 hybrid. I also like the body styling better.
@lilanthny
@lilanthny Ай бұрын
The Mazda is sharper looking, has a nicer interior, and tighter handling making it more fun to drive. The Mazda is also 200 lbs heavier and that wasn’t discussed as to why its 0-60 is .5 or so seconds slower and 2 mpg less fuel efficient, but other reviews I’ve seen have clocked 40mpg and 41 mpg overall signifying the EPA estimates aren’t necessarily a diehard gauge for fuel economy. Also, how is a car with faux leather and non ventilated seats for $700 more going to score 4.5 points higher? That’s more important to me than the backup camera or less aesthetic looking touchscreen in the Toyota. Mazda for my win!
@333dmg
@333dmg Ай бұрын
Essentially, when you choose Mazda, you're choosing the 4th generation RAV4 - the engine, transmission, and all the high voltage stuffing is stuffed from the RAV4 XA40. All in all, that's neither bad nor good. Not bad in terms of reliability, not good in terms of investment, as we don't know what kind of stuffing Toyota has prepared for the new generation XA60. Perhaps the 6th generation will prove to be trouble-free and much more efficient than all the previous ones, or perhaps it will be ordinary and won't be able to pull over the buyers' recognition. I haven't seen, to my regret, the CX-50 suspension, perhaps it's just as inherited from the XA40, but perhaps not. In my understanding nickel-metal hydride battery (NiMH) battery on the 4th generation, although lower capacity than lithium on the 5th, but relatively inexpensive and quite reliable in terms of loss of capacity at low temperatures and in general its life.

@ for me it’s driving engagement all day long. Both are reliable brands. One is a mundane, daily driver and has the style to boot. The other is more of a drivers car. As we know technology is ever changing and striving to get better, but whether you lease the car or hold onto it for 10+ years, none of the other stuff really matters if it’s been a great. Car to you. It only matters to those who purchase it and change them out at 4-5 years. Personally my view is, once the car has been paid off for a few years it doesn’t owe you anything and far newer tech is out anyway.

I have a deposit on the Rav4 XSE hybrid. Been waiting 3 months for it to arrive. It's loaded with options and has a MSRP of $44,600. But the CX-50 hybrid Premium trim has my interest. The MSRP is $39,800. There is a lot I like about the CX-50 and the body styling is more attractive to me than the Rav4. But the Mazda is lacking a few features the Toyota has - digital rear view mirror, 360 degree pano camera, and slightly better mpg. On the plus side buying the CX-50 hybrid would save me $4700. And it's on the dealer lot ready to buy right now. No waiting as with the Rav4. Much for me to think about.

Because of the tried & true Toyota hybrid system in the CX-50, the Mazda has now moved way up my list of replacement cars. My only concern is will it be made in that Alabama plant where all the troubles have been coming from (i.e., the metal shavings in the engines causing engine seizures)? Toyota quality has been slipping in the last 2 years so what everyone says about "reliability" are from cars made 10 or 15 years ago. And were those vehicles made in Japan or America? Can we say that 10 years from today will the 2024 and 2025's still be rated high reliability??

I think anybody watching this needs to make their own totals based on things that matter to THEM. As an example, I find the touchscreen of the RAV4 to be a NEGATIVE in comparison to the dial on the CX-50. No points for heated steering wheel, because I don't care about that one way or the other, ditto the 360 camera. Rear seat space does matter to me, so it still gets scored, as does total cargo. One thing I'd like to see is the ACTUAL dimensions back there, not simply the volume. From where I sit, the CX-50 beats the RAV4, BUT the NEXT RAV4 has a good chance of beating it.

Yes, they're related. Their smiles are different, but they have similar dimples. FWIW, the CX-50 does 0-60 in about 7.6-8s. The non-turbo ICE CX-50 takes about 8.5-10s to get up to speed, while the turbo is just under 7s. So the price point for the hybrid, lying between the two ICE versions, reflects acceleration.

Toyota dropped the V6 option for the RAV4 over a decade ago, and I don't see them bringing it back. Drove a RAV4 for 8 months, and I don't have to even drive the Mazda to know it's miles better than this dull and cheap rattlebox.

The video clearly shows the Rav4 as the better overall car. Lol why is everyone going the opposite.... must be mazda owners 😅

Depends a lot on your priorities. Mazda is so much more attractive, both inside and out, has a better sound system, heads up display, and real leather seats, with ventilation in the front seats It also has a different suspension and handling setup, with less body lean, a better weighted steering feel, and will be more fun to drive for most people. Toyota has a softer ride, fully digital gauge package, touch screen for navigation, and heated steering wheel. It has smaller tires/wheels, which might be one of the things that contributes to it's softer ride and slightly better fuel mileage. It also has a little more cargo and passenger space, even though it's not quite as long as the Mazda. They share the same engine/transmission, so there shouldn't be much difference in their performance or long term reliability, and the prices are similar. The reason I would choose the Mazda is for the hands-down more attractive and better quality interior, the classy looking exterior styling, and the better sound system. I live in the South, so ventilated seats are also important, and the fact that they are real leather is a plus. I also like the HUD that displays information on the windshield in front of you that lets you keep your attention focused on the road. I think the Toyota is less attractive, both inside and out, and the interior quality looks less premium. The heated steering wheel is far less important to me than ventilated seats, and I prefer the looks of the Mazda tires/wheels, even if they do cost a couple of mpgs. Both vehicles have as much space as I need, and the better handling of the Mazda for a slightly firmer ride is a tradeoff I'm willing to make. Even though the comparison in this video ranked the RAV4 higher than the CX50, the Mazda ticks off a lot more buttons that are more important to me.

Looks like the CX50 with its CVT is a worst Rav4, and not a real Mazda.

Mazda is the low-end Japanese vehicle next to Mitsubishi.. Below par reliability and resale .Outdated looks and drivetrain. Vehicles for people with low credit scores..😕
