I bought a 2023 Pathfinder Platinum in the first week of June 2023. It is now August 24 2023 and just got back from a 7711 km road trip. This vehicle is amazing. Comfort is top notch with very little driver and passenger fatigue. my wife has Parkinsons and is like the princess and the pea when it comes to comfort. Our last leg of our journey entailed 1175 km in one day and she had no complaints about comfort and no driver fatigue. Over our 7711 km trip, the Pathfinder performed flawlessly over all kinds of road conditions as we toured Newfoundland from Ontario. I would not hesitate to recommend this vehicle. We bought a 20-foot travel trailer and the Pathfinder tows it with no problem, although gas consumption suffers while towing.

I bought a brand new 2023 Honda Pilot Sport three weeks ago. It is bigger and looks better than previous generations. It's gas mileage is average, performance is OKish, nothing impressive. The brake is not responsive, you have to push the brake harder to get it stopped. But, The second day, the check engine light on. Here is the message:"Emissions system problem. Power may be reduced. See dealer". I immediately drove it to the dealership Service Dept. But, that Service Advisor said I did not make an appointment and has a kind of "do not care" attitude. It took me lots of efforts and almost 5 trips, eventually, they said it a sensor issues which is in some kind of value of the gas tank areas.They put order to replace the value and sensor. But, it has been over 15 days and no ETA from the supplier! Plus, the driver side wiper blade simply flew away the first time I turned it on in the heavy rain. It took three phone calls and two appointments to get the new wiper blade installed because it need to be "ordered" also. On the left side of back window, the bottom trim is not glued well and can easily peel off and has not fixed by the Service Dept yet. Since 1996,I used two Honda Accord which were very reliable. and a Honda Odysessy van which had transmission issues after 6 years. After that, I bought new Acura MDX and drove it for over 15 years and very reliable. That is the reasons I come back to bought this 2023 Honda Pilot. But, looks like Honda's build quality dramatically degraded. If I have choice now, I will NEVER buy Honda cars again. First, the manufacturing quality is very bad from my experience with the brand new Pilot, secondly, the experience with the Service dept is very bad also. Especially with the ordering of parts, it take over 15 days , no ETA ! what's hectic ! From the Honda manufacturer to the Service, the Honda is degrading big time. I will not recommand anybody to buy the 2023 Pilot.

I drove a new Pathfinder for a week (rental) while I was car shopping. That is not an easy task for me at 6'4". Ultimately went with the Pilot. I will say the seats in the Pathfinder were probably more comfortable, but the steering wheel felt too far away even when extended to the max, and the space between the door and the seat was too tight. I also had a constant fear of breakong things in the Pathfinder. It looked fine, but there was too much play in the plastics on the controls and steering wheel. The steering wheel felt like a cheap video game controller covered in leather. The drive mode selector was about as rigid as a soda bottle top. There were other areas that left me with concerns about how well it would hold up long term. The driver assistance in the Pathfinder was frustrating. I found it complaining or actually turning off some of the features if I didnt have both hands closer to the 10 and 2 position even for brief periods. The infotainment screen felt like it was slightly angled away from the driver and the tuning knob on the right hand side was a stretch even for me. Another issue, though probably something I would have gotten used to if it were my daily driver, is the placement of the remote start button on the key fob. It is where the Lock button is on most others. On a couple of occasions, I came back to the car with the engine running after thinking I had locked the car, and unlike others I have driven with remote start, it didnt turn off after 15 minutes. I will say the 360° view cameras were good and the overhead view might be a slight bit better than the Pilot. The Pilot also feels smaller and lighter than it should for its size when driving. Though the steering can feel extremely light with the lane assist turned off. Price being equal for similar features, Pilot should hold its value much better with better reliability.

Slightly wider tires and these things would be perfect. One major difference that i have noticed is the fuel economy, i have a nissan pathfinder 2022 and i can easily get 29 to 30 on highways and long trips, on pilot that is simply not possible. in the long run this would mean nissan pathfinder can save at least $1200 per year. its makes a huge difference in long run
@acort10 Жыл бұрын
How did you calculate $1200 savings? Hypothetically if you save 5mpg/yr if gas was $3/gal you’d have to drive 60k miles/yr to save $1200. @$4/gal drive 45k miles/year. Typically most people drive 12-15k miles/yr so would be closer to $300/yr if there was a 5mpg savings.

Pathfinder - love the zero gravity seats and ProPilot Assist. Better deal than overpriced marked up Honda. Even though the pilot may have a higher resale value, your paying for it up front with the markup and high APR.
@yourkoreanbuddy1 Жыл бұрын
Idk if the Pilot has the same feature but the pathfinder second row rolls forward by pushing one button and it can do it with a car seat in it. The competitors don’t have that feature and for families that’s a big deal. Especially if you have a baby in your arms and you only have one free hand to use. That’s a whole point or more

As an investment, Honda and Toyota are far superior in resale value

toyota and honda msrp 50k, then actually paid 55k to have it. nissan msrp 50k, then actually paid 45k to have it. after 5yr, toyota and honda sale 35k, and nissan at 25k. thats the way to make you feel you have superior resale value.

Not sure if you mentioned it but the Pathfinder comes with a really good quasi autopilot system that steers the steering wheel and makes driving on Long stretches of Road a breeze

Can you please add the front leg room for both? I am 6’5” and the legroom is important. These measurements were provided for the 2nd row. I think per the specs, Nissan is 44” and Honda 41” but I would like to know from a real world perspective. I have sat in a new Pilot and I thought the legroom was too short for me.

I'd take either of these over a 4Cyl turbo competitor, may bo get the best gas mileage but Honda and Nissan make some reliable and good sounding V6

Nissan is more beautiful styling for me in all aspects but pilot is beautiful suv too. So you can never go wrong with this 2 suv.

Nice review! Both look like great vehicles but if I had to choose one, I would probably go with the Honda because of the iVTM4 system, Honda's slightly better reliability reputation, and the fact that the Pilot has higher North American content and manufacturing than the Pathfinder. If the Pilot was unavailable for some reason, I would probably get the Pathfinder and be perfectly happy with it.

So if comparing the two in the video where the pricing was almost the exact same price then you have to go Honda based on reliability and costs on down the road. If Nissan wants to sell more they should reduce the price by 3-5k.

We are both retired but we love the ride in our 2020 Nissan Murano with the zero-gravity seats......please let me know if you think the Pathfinder is a more comfortable ride with these seats vs the Pilot.......thank you
@danwaller5312 Жыл бұрын
Those Nissan seats are incredibly comfortable. I bought a Altima 3.5 SR IN 2016 over the Honda Accord and the clincher was the seats! Since then I have purchased 2 Titans and they are amazingly comfortable also.

Great review & comparison segment! I don’t think you could go that wrong with either vehicle. I’d lean more towards to Pilot, it ticks more boxes & has more storage space. I would hands down take a TrailSport over a Rock Creek edition- the Rock Creek seems like a wheel package upgrade with a roof rack & badging - plus the Rock Creek had manual controls for the passenger seat that we test drove. Always had a place in my heart for the Pathfinder as I use to have a 1995 pathfinder. It was an amazing vehicle and hopefully they can continue to get this generation to that level - I just see Nissan chasing all the competition again, at a similar price point. Would like to see a comparison of the TrailSport vs Rock Creek!!!

Another thing… I know folks in America are tall, but how about we talk about SHOULDER ROOM IN 3RD ROW?!?!?!? THAT’s arguably more impactful for comfort than leg room considering that 2nd row can move forward a bit…

I'm hear cause I'm jus researching for my next car. Still driving my 2007 Odyssey EX-L at 304000km. Still going strong. I love how Honda vehicle drives - experience with my Odyssey, it drives like a civic. Nissan's are great too, but for maintenance, how easily accessible are the components if you want to do you own repair compared to a Honda? I'm torn. The Pilot middle row seat is not available on the trail sport. The AWD vectoring on the Honda looks very good, I'm sure Nissan's AWD is also very good. I'm torn.

Does the Nissan V6 use a timing chain or timing belt? Pilot V6 uses a belt 😞 Yes, I know, the standard argument for a belt is that they are quieter than a chain, and cheaper (for the manufacturer.) But I've never heard anyone complain about the V6 in the previous gen Highlander, or previous gen Lexus RX, etc. So I consider the belt a BIG negative since the chain will (if well designed) last considerably longer than a belt. Last question about the engines - any idea whether either one of them are non-interference, meaning that a broken belt won't mean the destruction of the valve train and maybe pistons?
@J.Nev. Жыл бұрын
The Nissan Has A Timing Chain And I Think The New Pilot Has A Chain As Well. This New 3.5 In The Pilot Is A DOHC Compared To The Older J35 Which Is A SOHC. This New Engine Also Doesn’t Have V-Tec Either.

The base model of the pathfinder before taxes is $45,000 Canadian. The pilot base model before taxes is $50,600 Canadian. The pathfinder is the better deal all through the trims as it always undercuts the pilot. $74,000 Canadian for a 2023 Honda pilot black edition??? No way am I buying a vehicle for that price.
