Agreed. Has 4.5in of more combined legroom in Colorado, better towing and payload, better base suspension tuning, more comfortable seats and driving position, rear air vents, less expensive OTD price, and a proven 2.7T and 8 speed. I mean Toyota is already replacing transmissions on the new Tacomas 💀

I see where the Tacoma won in a lot of categories but for me personally, with my usage of the back seats in my cars, I like the Colorado more. It's weird to see GM have rear air vents over Toyota and yet they do. That plus I find the Colorados rear seats more comfortable.
@hellkitty1014

For the life of me, I don't understand why Toyota doesn't address rear seat room accommodation for both the new Taco and Tundra(especially). I was astounded by the lack of truck-appropiate headroom in the Tundra, and this new Tacoma's rear seat doesn't appear to be an improvement in legroom, despite moving to the TNGA-F platform(most vehicles on the TNGA platform don't do so hot in the rear leg and headroom, oddly).

This was a biased review. What I mean is he gave Toyota a .5 a point because it included a Bluetooth speaker and .5 point for a manual transmission that no one wants anymore They don't even talk about payload and towing which people specifically buy a truck for, so that is a joke. They don't mention that you can't fit an adult in the back of the Toyota. Plus, they are comparing a Tacoma limited against a much cheaper spec Colorado.
@mrfrosty11111
@mrfrosty11111 7 ай бұрын
First, you compare Chevy's Z71 vs Toyota's Limited, giving points to the Toyota for options that are purposely not there on the Chevy Z71. The Z71 is marketed for a different buyer--- Limited buyers look at the Denali instead of a Z71. Oddly enough, Denali pricing is right in line with that Limited you loved so much vs that mid level optioned Chevy. So what this vid actually taught us is that you are clearly not truck guys. That's OK. Non truck guys buy GM too, which is why there is a Denali package. So let's say you actually compared like trucks, GMC Denali vs Tacoma limited. The "Shootout" results would have been "Nice trucks. The Denali has more poop for the same prices. Denali wins"

I love both these trucks that said the decisions on some of the points were... interesting. A removeable pod speaker just as important as powertrain differences for example. And giving the Yota a half point for step bars when it's a $7000 more expensive truck and powered steps installed are less than $2000 🤷‍♂

I feel like the removable Bluetooth speaker isn't worth marking as an advantage. It's such a gimmick and the truck is a lot more expensive. Personally I like the taillights more on the Colorado. Having your brake lights and turn signals be one light is kind of dangerous if you have hazards on. It makes it really hard to tell when you're braking since only the third brake light is solid. With the Colorado you get individual lights for the turn signals and brake lights. I also don't think sequential turn signals are really that advantage worthy in that same context of price differential.

I think it is a little silly for the grading criteria to give having a 12 inch display over an 8 inch display .5 points and then grade a tow rating rating over 1000 lbs over the other truck as a .5. There should be more of a weighted grading criteria for things that trucks are good at doing. So things like bed size/features, tow rating, off road capability, and hauling should get more of the focus over minor creature comforts with a bigger digital display or a heads up display.

i think the Colorado won this hands down. you get a more powerful truck that can tow quite a bit more with nearly identical features for $8000 less. the stuff you were giving the Tacoma points for are irrelevant and it all boils down to power, towing capacity and price. you even gave the tacoma points for a removable speaker that the colorado also offers that goes in the tailgate. none of that matters and is just fluff when talking about a truck. if these trucks were priced the same, then maybe the extra little features would add up to half a point, but giving points for all of the nonsense is artificially inflating the score of the tacoma. the tacoma has a lot to do to catch up.

@rozzbourn3653 yea, and that 2.7 is basically a diesel engine that runs on gasoline according to the design engineers and the cooling system is not necessarily dependent on running off of the fly wheel but is determined from electronic pumps and thermo sensors so it is always being cooled down, even when it's turned off after climbing a hill or towing. GM put a lot of thought into there engine design and build durability.

Obviously, Toyota upped the game of the very long-in-the-tooth Taco. The truck seems to be finally hospitable for folks over 6ft tall. That said, the true competitor to the Taco Limited is the GMC Canyon Denali, which addresses the exterior lighting and interior decor gaps that the Chevy doesn't, which is reflected in its price. While I expect the Tacoma to maintain its great resale value, I do wonder about very long-term reliability since it is all 4cyl turbo and soon to be hybrid as well. One of the hallmarks of the Taco is that it is low fuss on maintenance and legendary reliability. Only time will tell.

2024 Tacoma has barley nothing from the last 3 generations proven reliability, all new engines, new transmissions etc. The 24 pricing at 50+k for a midline truck, your better off with full sized truck at that price. I can already see the 24+ Tacomas are not going to sell like hot cakes just based of the drastic price jump from previous models. Toyta needs to take note with the built in tailgate steps.... My god are they one of thoes "once you have it, you can't ever get back" especially if your truck is lifted its a literal pain to get into my 23 Tacoma bed 😂 I specially bought a 23 last year knowing it would be the end of the generation and toyta is now in untested waters. Chevy Colorado is obviously the better value for your money. Toyota used to be an economical car company but now over engineered with more things to prematurely break like unnecessary automatic power running boards, power lift gate, lighting controls hidden in the touchscreen display and the worst offender is subscription based features like remote start etc. They’re going full luxury vehicle mode. Not to mention the overall cost of ownership is over $53k which is over $5 more than the Chevy. The Chevy looks nicer in-front without the huge air buffer under the bumper that looks like an afterthought. Almost as if it was an aftermarket add on bought online. The chrome grill and wheels are ugly in the Tacoma.

I've had the same experience. I've had more reliable bmw's. Toyota dealers have given me unfavorable experiences. And once you look at reliability versus the idiots that can't figure out their entertainment systems, the real quality difference is really quite small and not worth toyota prestige pricing.

I am not sure how it is in the new Tacomas but for the 2022 tundra platinum and the 2023 4runner limited, after the remote start trial ends you still have it. You just dont have access to the app features. To remote start almost all Toyotas, you press the lock button three times and hold it on the last press. You can do this without the trial. Remote start on Toyota really isn't the best though since the truck will turn off when you unlock it which defeats the purpose.

Gents, I often watch/listen to some of the larger channels comparisons and I passed on your channel a few times due to the variety of reviews and honestly your age. I’ve found channels that do wide reviews typically hit highlights and seemingly aren’t that knowledgeable which was also the concern with your age (experience). I was pleasantly surprised with the in depth comparisons and the side by side comparisons throughout was very helpful and appreciated. Great video, I was wrong.

For me, it's the power/torque, towing and cost advantage of the Colorado, versus the expected reliability and longevity and residual value of the Tacoma. Most of the other 'advantages' of the Tacoma are pure fluff, such as a slightly bigger infotainment screen, which do not affect core truck needs.

how does the 2024 Tacoma engine perform in high Altitude such as denver colorado?
@Heatherder
@Heatherder 8 ай бұрын
As a rule pf thumb, a naturally aspirated engine loses 3% of its horsepower per 1000 ft density altitude. Density altitude is a temperature adjusted air density compared to an ISA standard atmosphere. On days in denver above 41 degrees F, the density altitude increases accordingly. On a 95 degree day in denver the density altitude is about 9000ft, so the effective loss in horsepower is about 27%. On a 70 degree f day in the Eisenhower tunnel, the density altitude is about 14,400 ft, or 40-45% loss of horsepower. A turbocharged car is limited much less than that, with a small loss from the compressor working harder, and reduced intercooler effectiveness, and increases spool time. Still, it will be far less than 10% power lost even at the tunnel.

Y’all will need to do a ranger vs Tacoma. Hopefully a Trd off road/sport vs xlt fx4 as I feel those two will be more in line with most people’s realistic price ranges. Despite still being ridiculously expensive for mid size trucks. And of particular interest for me, the upcoming 2.7 ecoboost being added to the ranger. I feel that will be a nice option for points toward the ranger. I’m personally so conflicted on what I should get in the upcoming year between these two trucks

Both are dang good looking trucks, leaps and bounds over previous generations. Personally I tend to prefer Fords but the Ranger is fugly and 3rd class compared to either of these. Flip a coin, the exteriors are great. Slight edge to the Chevy interior but I could live nicely with the Taco interior. But Jeezus, over 50k for a crackerbox little truck...Yota has lost their friggin mind. The Chevy is overpriced too but not to the extent of the Toyota. If I ever bumped my head and decided to dump my F150 for a Matchbox truck, the price differential would put the Chevy in my driveway no further discussion required.

As someone who has been towing for decades, more important than tow rating is payload capacity. Tacomas in the past have been woefully inadequate on payload capacity. Often, you will run out of payload by the time you are only half way to towing capacity. I don't know if Toyota fixed this issue. Finally, resale value on Tacomas tend to be sky high. So owners will likely recoup the $$ on higher initial price on resale. Hybrid Tacoma will be a game changer.

I have a 2nd gen Colorado. The 3rd gen cannot be configured the way mine is, so it is out. I'm not interested in Toyotas, so I don't know if they have a configuration I would like. I'll just be keeping my truck until I can no longer drive it. This video illustrates the problem. It goes on and on about features - things I don't need and don't want and which are used to try justify the high price. A truck is just a tool for carrying me and some things from one place to another. There are only a few modern features which I want.

colorado looks nice in and out. The out side front bumper air dam is a after thought on toyota. the tail gate down on the taco and cant step on a bumper to get in is weird. I personal think the interior looks cheap with blank buttons and looks like a big ipad stuck on the dash. Colorado has more power , more payload and towing, the engine they put in halftons . The bigest negative is just the short box only option on the gm product.

Tacoma had terrible gas milege before and it didnt change much wifh the new engine either. Thats why they put on the plastic skirt on to at least achieve decent mileage. The major thing Toyota fixed is the terrible seativng position and handling. Id wait out till ford releases the 2.7 ecoboost engine next year for the new 24 ranger. At $50k, new taco is a rip off......id rather get a discounted '23 colorado or used '23 canyon.

The Tacoma price is flat-out scary. Yes, they have dominated the market recently. But with that price they are leaving the door wide open to competitors. Every reviewer touts the extra power that will be coming from the hybrid. However, since it is coming from a battery, the duration of the power will be limited. We don't know how long it will last. But it likely won't be long enough to tow a heavy trailer up a mountain pass. In that regard, the Colorado/Canyon beats the Tacoma hands down. Also, that huge screen in the Tacoma. It looks like Toyota took an oversized iPad and stuck it on the dash with velcro. For my eyes it is just too big and out of proportion for the vehicle, and not integrated at all. Conversely, the Colorado/Canyon screen is nicely integrated into the dash and the overall look of the interior. Plus, GM offers Google Automotive which is a better infotainment interface than Toyota's version. Finally, that removable speaker on the dash of the Tacoma is an invitation to break into the truck. No thank you.

One thing also to consider with the Tacoma is that it has the D4S system which is port injection in addition to the direct injection. The port injection is used to clean the intake ports. It’s not always on since the direct injection is the primary system. No catch can needed!

@hdfxst1521
@hdfxst1521 9 ай бұрын
@@jlynchtx well I had a 2020 Ranger and the truck itself was fine. It had the 2.3 ecoboost that was strong but I ran a catch can and it would fill with some crud that would have been in the intake ports. Only real issue was it would fill the crankcase with fuel. After about 1500 miles or so the oil level on the dipstick would rise about an 1/8 of an inch and the oil would start to get even thinner. Ford replaced the high pressure pump and an injector. Still did it though. You can research that issue here on KZbin.
