Great video Sandro, highly instructive. I've found that if I'm foaming a car and it's drying too quickly, then working the car in thirds can work well. Foam and then rinse the front, then the mid, then the rear. Then repeat the process, if it hasn't had time to do its work sufficiently. Heat is definitely the enemy when cleaning in Queensland. As you note, cars are exposed to the elements before delivery. Once at the factory, then at a dock, then inside a ship (which is hardly pristine), then at the dock, then in transit, then at the dealership. This work is essential to getting it back to the state it should arrive in, and then protecting it.

Great episode, and such a classy-looking vehicle. I remember my last (and what was actually my first) outdoor detail for a customer. Was a 2023 Mercedes GLE in similar condition as your Suzuki. The gamut of challenges included wind, light pollen, sun and migrating bugs. It was a job that I took panel-by-panel, over and over. It’s really the only way to confidently produce a consistent outcome. Your note on shade placement is so important. You really have to be cognizant of the sun and panel temps throughout. For those stateside, I found 3D One to be a great compound for the outdoors. Sure the wipe off takes a bit more to complete, but it far-beats the issues you’ll experience with lesser compounds. Plus, the formula puts more onus on the pad selected since it’s not a hard-cutting compound. Thanks Sandro for all you do.

Excellent content as always! I love your work, explanations, and video quality. Superb! I wish I would have watched this a few weeks ago. I recently applied Adam's Advanced Graphene Ceramic coating to my Toyota Tundra (about 26 hours of work in all). I did the prep outdoors (your video would have helped there), then moved into my garage with the overhead door open. Nonetheless, my garage stayed around 84 degrees Fahrenheit (around 29 C). I wasn't quite prepared for the super-fast flash time. I ended up with some pretty bad high spots that I really didn't notice until after the coating was fully cured. I can definitely see how this could be a real challenge outdoors--especially if it's warm and mostly sunny. Fortunately, I was able to hit the high spots with a DA polisher, a finishing pad, and Sonax; then, a quick IPA wipe down, and reapplied a thin coating of the Adam's. Since I hadn't completely removed the original coating; I didn't wait too long for a full flash. The results were MUCH better.

I am a huge fan of your videos and this one is no exception, it‘s fantastic. However, considering how clear, direct, honest and comprehensive the information you usually provide is, I really missed some crucial information in this one: 1. Primer polishes can be a risk if you don‘t stay within a manufacturer‘s system. CarPro Essence works fine with CarPro‘s own coatings and some others, but with some others it causes issues resulting in significantly reduced durability and other performance issues. That‘s in my opinion really really important to note! 2. The issue with applying ceramic coatings outside never really was the application itself. Yes, there maybe are some issues with wind and dust, but that‘s managable. The real issues are temperatures, humidity and curing. Those things change outside which means the ideal flash times change when you work on a car. That you mentioned and explained perfectly! However, the big issue you didn’t mention is pretty much all coatings need a cure time of 12-48 hours. And that‘s the real issue, because even IF you manage the application and removal in changing temperature and humidity levels, you won‘t be there to overlook the curing process for the next 12-48 hours. If a car is parked outside, it will see MASSIVE changes in temperature and humidity levels. So much that it is perfectly possible that it gets so cold at night, that water starts to build on some (thinner) panels and if that happens, the curing process will be irreversibly hindered. At that point, the whole application was for nothing! 3. Yes, as you mentioned, there are products like CarPro Release which can help with that issue. However, as much as with Essence, that only works within the manufacturer‘s system. You yourself showed in a video the performance issues you can run into when you apply Gyeon Wax on top of a Gyeon coating - so if you follow a manufacturers recommendations and stay within his system. Plus, products like Release may work to protect the coating from water that comes feom above, but it won‘t protect from moisture that comes from within the panels because they get cold at night. I really really hoped you would also mention these aspects as those are the reasons why I personally don‘t recommend to apply a ceramic coating outside. As you said, it absolutely can be done, but there are so many potential pit falls and because people usually only hear „yes you can“ and then don‘t listen anymore when you start with „but…“, I personally continue to not recommend it.

Great to hear you enjoyed the video and I appreciate your points. In an ideal world everyone would have all the luxuries to detail their vehicles with the upmost convenience and control, but reality bites and I think it shouldn’t discourage or prevent anyone from doing this work. I’d also love to to be able to list and cover everything more comprehensively in every video, but that also also makes the videos excessively long and even more time consuming- so a balance needs to be found. I gues everything is s balance or balancing act in life 🙂
@AndreasSchwarzinger
@AndreasSchwarzinger Жыл бұрын
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing I 100% agree that we shouldn‘t discourage anyone from doing this work, but I also 100% believe that we should discourage people from applying ceramic coatings when not all necessary requirements are met - as there just can go too much wrong. On the other hand you‘re correct, if we discourage them too much, this will encourage people from selling „ceramic coatings“ when all they in fact apply is a spray wax of sort, because they feel the competitive pressure from detailers who actually can apply coatings. As you said, it‘s all a balance of arguments and I can totally respect your view on it. I still think that outdoor application if ceramic coatings is somewhat risky and won‘t recommend it, but you at least showed the whole process that‘s involved and not just said it‘s possible and left it at that. Keep up the great work!

For outdoor polishing, I wonder will spraying water helps with wiping off and prevent the polish to dry faster?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing Жыл бұрын
Sometimes water or a lubricant can help with that in harsher environments, but ideally if you can find a polish/compound that is already formulated to help in those area it eliminates more variable issues you can cause by introducing more steps and products to your process.

Some really helpful info 👍🏼. Shame we only get the Commercial Jimny in the Uk now because of emmision regs and the used ones have crazy prices. Only thing that puts me off ceramic coating is the British weather and getting that 12-24 hr window without rain for afterwards. Have you any experience of Diamond Protech, from what I’ve read the flash time should forgiving and cure time 1hr for the 36 month.

@@CarCraftAutoDetailing I think it’s an hour for the 36 month and no cure time for the 18 month. Wouldn’t mind if you could apply the topper as soon as your finish as really enjoyed Gyeon’s coating when I had the time and indoor space with a garage to keep the elements off overnight and still applied Cure to prevent any water spots. Currently got a product called SiRamik Lusterous Plus Graphene Spray Coating on one of our cars and it’s done 15 months and is still going, it’s getting ready for top up in a few areas seemingly loosing some hydrophobicity but it’s not much harder to apply than a spray sealant. Thanks for taking the time to reply 👍🏼

I wanted to ask you since you have experience installing both. Nova pro vs cquartz finest reserve. What would be the major difference between these two coatings ?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing Жыл бұрын
I think both can perform equally well. Finest is very slow flashing and curing coating that needs additional inferred curing and really needs to be layered to achieve its true performance and is quite expensive - granted, given the time and cost it does perform exceptionally well. Nova Pro is a very quick flashing and curing coating (doesn’t need IR curing) and will perform great as a single layer or in multiple layers and is more affordable and cost effective to apply.

I stopped using my rain tank water to wash as I was worried it would be dirty. It’s not filtered in any way. Would you use tap or tank in this case?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 5 күн бұрын
No I wouldn’t run overly dirty or contaminated water through my pressure washer and/or use it to wash a car without any filtration. Most water tanks should have a top filter to stop particles from entering and there’s lots of affordable bottom tap end filters you can apply with finer filtration - you just need to clean the filters out every few months. Rain water is generally the best water for washing cars as it typically has low to no mineral deposits that cause water spots and is extremely pure. You can also flush, pressure rinse and treat the tank with bleach and give the gutters a clean if your tank water is heavily contaminated.
