Among the promise and palm tree lined streets of Hollywood lives the genre bending 3-piece rock band Dogstar. Bret Domrose on guitar, Rob Mailhouse on drums and an absolute legend, Keanu Reeves bringing up the low end on bass. The overall vibe you pick up on immediately when around them is that Dogstar is exactly who they want to be. There’s comfort and an ease within this band of good friends full of banter and funny jabs between songs. Their music inspiration range is wide. From indie, folk, pop, Bret’s love of 80’s music, mixed with a pinch of punk as Keanu warms up with a Breeders riff and discusses his love for J Mascis. The band is pure joy and what is most striking upon seeing them play live is the collective energy that resonates with a type of innocence and love for the sole purpose of playing music. This is music meant to be played loud and played live and we are absolutely thrilled to have them in the famous Sunset Sound Studios do just that here on Cardboard Sessions 17.

In 2023 I watched an interview on E-news where Reeves shared his experiences meeting devoted fans. Intrigued by the topic, I delved into some research and found an exclusive fan club via Radiant Reservation. As member there is a chance to meet him Reeves sets aside time at the end of each month to meet with active club members.

Becoming a member of this exclusive fan club is very easy, all you need is simply pay attention to your email , meet certain criteria such as active participation in fan events. The opportunity is worthwhile,I have always imagined how it would feel to meet him. He exceeded my expectations ,we talked about a lot of things, and he often laughed heartily before answering most of my questions. He mentioned that he changed his hair because he's preparing to film Constantine 2.

All I know is that I play Dogstar's music to and from work and anytime in my car!❤. Cardboard Session sounds are the instrumental sounds that I enjoy listening to. Lily, Overhang, and Breech also have instrumental sounds. I love that entire album and Glimmer I love singing. Anyone else think the floor tom was a djembe from the strange angle/distortion? Oh s*** - I didn't get until the closeup at the very end that the instruments are literally made from cardboard. Wow - sounds INCREDIBLE once you consider that. IDK why I should care, but it gives me a good feeling to know that famous movie star Keanu Reeves can have some things from a normal life: a band, gigs, hanging out with friends. "Tone Wood" is a thing for acoustic strings. But for decades now pretty much all guitar makers knew that electrics are under a whole different set of rules. But there was all the guitar players throwing money at the manufactures so they were just quietly collecting the money. And I do mean quiet. Look how they word their guitar descriptions carefully. But a lot of guitar makers have been experimenting with all kinds of materials now days and coming up with some really cool stuff. But ya definitely these cardboards sound good. This is my first time listening to Dogstar... but I really like the style. Got it added to my spotify list. After watching Keanu play... they should have had Johnny Silverhand play bass and did more scenes with him tinkering on the bass. Like what musicians do like a compulsion whenever we are bored, stressed, hungry, tired, sad, angry, happy, ... :) What a missed opportunity for them.
