Cheers, Cardinal and VCV are both great! Being a free VST is obviously a big plus for Cardinal, and it's much easier to share patches but I do miss a lot of the modules in VCV. Happily I can use both, always nice to have options! 👍

I mean, at this point we also have Solaris (and Reaper users can also get the Atlantis Reverb jsfx) for free shimmer, but it's always good to see Cardinal being recognized. Criminally overlooked plugin

Thanks, and yep I'm not sure why Cardinal isn't more popular. Maybe too much of a learning curve for some people? I first did this in VCV a few years ago, and at the time I don't think there were any free shimmer plugins so it's good to have options. Kind of satisfying to patch it yourself though! 😉

​@@VirtualModular It isn't popular because it isn't on any youtube producer "BEST FREE PLUGINS" videos. So far I think only Venus Theory acknowledged it. I'm starting to think these people actively avoid the plugin either because they have their own conceptions of what a "modular plugin" can do, or they're just afraid of modular. Learning Cardinal flipped my production experience on its head, and even if I'm not an amazing one by any means, I can't think of where would I be without it.

@@nitroanilinmusic yes, I think KZbin is a feedback loop to some extent. Channels make videos on what's already popular to try and get views, so people who may be interested aren't seeing much content showing the real possibilities of Cardinal.

@@VirtualModular And the culture around modular as a whole doesn't help either. There's very little in the way of types of things being widely done with modular out there, it's almost always simple-sounding generative music or ambient drone soundscapes. So people take a glance at VCV or Cardinal and think that's the extent of what these tools can do. People don't understand Cardinal is kind of like Bitwig's Grid.

@@nitroanilinmusic yep, not many people using software modular for less obvious stuff. Ambient drone/generative is easy to make, so it's a combination of lack of imagination and the mighty algorithm pushing more of the same. Having said that, I'm guilty of knocking out a few drones occasionally 😉

Wow, Great!!!! Some background. I'm a pianist (and a little bit guitar, acoustic and electric) , running a home studio, Windows 11 based, Studio One 6.6 Pro. Have a lot of keyboards / synths (rack based). Just installed Cardinal, looking for some resources and found your preset and video. I have the Line 6 Helix Floor. They have a shimmer effect, sounds really nice, but this is much better! Really great patch, and lot's of parameters to shape the effect. Thumbs up!

Excellent, I'm really glad you found this useful! I mainly use VCV but noticed there wasn't much content for Cardinal, so I'll be making more videos on it. I honestly think some of the effects that are possible with VCV/Cardinal are comparable with commercial stuff, if not better. 👍
