Cubs st cards 10th inning Keith Hernandez hits a Homer to win it, loudest crowd ever I remember screaming " I don't believe it !" At the top of my lungs and I couldn't hear myself 8yrs old 1977 a diehard since. And yes you got to see one of the best eras of cards baseball. Some would say that the 40s was probably the best but we didn't get to witness that the stories from my grandad snd uncles though made me feel like I did at times. But I'm with you the 00s to 2014 was pretty awesome and Albert was and still is the best player I ever saw

When I moved back to Missouri in August 2003, I didn't know I would be in for the best baseball ever. I was born and raised in Ste. Genevieve, an hour south of Busch Stadium. 60's were cool...70's, eh. I left and was excited to come back. From 2003 to 2015, I was treated to baseball heaven. The opening of the new park and the World Series' wins....all the incredible highlights to come with it. This game was an early example. The game before it (called the Zambrano/Edmonds game) another. Sorry for rambling. But games like this make me smile. Thanks for your content. :)

I'm a Cubs fan and this certainly buried their chances of making a comeback in the NL Central. Still the most disappointing Cubs season I have ever seen.
@andrebond6782 жыл бұрын
And they was further behind in the NL Central and they also have a chance with the Wild Card and the final week of the season Cubs had a 1 1/2 game lead and have 7 games at home 4 vs Reds 3 vs Braves. Cubs lost 3 of 4 vs Reds and lost 2 of 3 vs Braves and the Cubs blew it and eliminated from postseason
@andrebond6782 жыл бұрын
Cubs was up 8-2 and lost 11-8. And LaTroy Hawkins was furious with the umpire in the 9th inning when Hawkins complain the pitch and umpire call balls twice and the pitch was right in the middle and Hawkins screaming at the home plate umpire and he got tossed and Dusty Baker and the Cubs coaches staff try to get Hawkins out of the game and Hawkins got suspended few games

The Cubs just totally lacked any composure that whole year and crumbled under the pressure despite the fact that if they had a better attitude and played with better fundamentals, they could have had the wild card.
@cardinalsbaseballclassics4 жыл бұрын
I don't know how much I agree with that assessment. After the '03 season, the top three teams in the NL Central all improved. The Cubs, who had won the Division in 2003 with an 88-74 record (the worst record of all 8 playoff teams) added Greg Maddux, Derrek Lee, Michael Barrett, Ryan Dempster, Todd Hollandsworth, LaTroy Hawkins, and Kent Mercker, to a team that already had Sammy Sosa, Aramis Ramirez, Mark Prior, and Kerry Wood. The Astros added Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte to a rotation that already had Roy Oswalt, and then in June, they added Carlos Beltran to a lineup that already had Lance Berkman, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, and Jeff Kent. The Cardinals, though, added Reggie Sanders, Jason Marquis, Ray King, Tony Womack, Jeff Suppan, Chris Carpenter, and Julian Tavarez, then got Larry Walker in early August to compliment a team that already had Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Albert Pujols, Edgar Renteria, and Woody Williams. The '04 Cubs weren't a team that underperformed - they were a decent team with two overworked horses (Prior and Wood) at the top of their rotation. They didn't flop, they just got stuck behind a really good team (Houston), and a great team (St. Louis), in their division.
@7michaelg4 жыл бұрын
Cardinals Baseball Classics I think that’s a valid point, but the Cubs had a 19-30 record in 1 run games. They also went 2-7 in their final 9 games. The ‘03 Cubs got hot in the final month while the ‘04 Cubs went ice cold when it mattered the most. Anecdotally, the Cubs struggles with fundamentals all year but especially in the second half. Their talent got them to 89 wins but a focus on fundamentals probably gets them to 94-95 wins. The Astros went 36-10 in their final 46 games and passed the Cubs. You have to give Houston credit, but the Cubs played poorly enough to let themselves get caught
@erikhernandez91184 жыл бұрын
Good points on both sides but the general lack of mental toughness and composure particularly at 2:34:44 says it all. This team also consisted of guys calling the announcers booth during games and trying to get Steve Stone and Chip Caray banned from team flights. Look at the Cubs roster from 2003 to 2004. It was so much stronger but lack of discipline and some injuries doomed them. I tend to think Joe Borowski getting hurt and relying on Hawkins to close was also a major difference.

They talked a lot about a roided up Bonds a lot!!! Pujols should have another 2 or 3 MVPs if not for the roided up Bonds...just saying.....facts....
@hmhm856 Жыл бұрын
Well, if you want to see who should have won NL MVP during those Bonds 2001-2002-2003-2004 seasons, then lets see, if we take Bonds out of the equation 2001 = Luis Gonzalez of Arizona should have won it. I wont mention Sammy, since hes probably in the same area as Bonds in terms of allegations 2002 = I would have given it to Vladimir Guerrero or Jeff Kent. Expos had a winning record in 2002, despite all those extreme financial limitations. 2003 = I would have given it to Javy Lopez, with the catcher-boost. 2004 = Adrian Beltre of the Dodgers. In my opinion, Edmonds and Rolen ahead of Pujols since they play a tougher defensive position (3B, CF) than Pujols (1B) in 2004.
@thabeaststl3703 Жыл бұрын
@@hmhm856 I will agree with some of what you said, but the baseball writers did not. To your points in 2001 Albert finished 4th in voting to Bonds, Sosa and Gonzalez (I liked Luis a lot, but his stats very much make him a user in those days) so Albert finished 4th.... in 2004 Beltre was in front of him and that was the year of the MV3 with Rolen and Edmonds (that was a fun year for us Cards fans). Those three all stole votes from each other. In 2002 and 2003 he finished 2nd to Bonds in MVP voting. While my opinion of Albert may be skewed I don't think it's out of the question Albert could have at least two more MVPs.
