I mean, the "look at top 3 with sylvan then dredge" to me says otherwise, since that's a very illegal play. Look at top 3 is a shortcut for sylvan for drawing your card for turn, and then 2 for sylvan, and then putting back 2. you don't get another draw after that.

I expected this to be a blow out for lands, but that was incredibly close through that last game. Despite the Choke and the Glacial Chasm, there were several times when just the right card would have turned the tide. A Force of Will or Surgical Extraction could have completely changed the outcome. Very exciting, right down to the last draws. Great match, guys.

Lands was made to beat Delver, and it shows in this match
@cemperable2 ай бұрын
Just resolving the Price of Progress before Glacial Chasm was on the board would have led to a completely different outcome. The window of opportunity was there, but Mengu chose not to use it (I think he gambled for the blowout win). If Mengu had played Price, Carl would have been at 1 life for the rest of the game and it would have been extremely hard to deploy the Glacial Chasm lock from that point, because he could never pay for it.

Yep, looking at the lists, there's almost nothing lands can do game 1. Their best shot seems to be T1 exploration into crop rotation/glacial chasm to try and survive long enough to get a lock or marit lage. Post sideboard they get a stalling option of mox diamond/sphere of resistance, but LotV shuts down their loops and Flash Hulk runs enough basics and fetches that wasteland and ghost quarter can't keep them off mana long enough anyway. And all this is assuming that lands is on the play or flash hulk doesn't have the combo T1.

I wouldn't have understood half so well, or felt half as invested, if not for the work you do to show us both players' hands, and the cutaway commentary explaining the plays. I hope that Cardmarket's management understand that they have the best magic channel on youtube. Congratulations, Carl, and commiserations, Andrea! Carl could have also done the life from the loam/sylvan interaction differently. Mengu gave him a less than great workaround. Carl can draw for turn, then library will trigger and he may choose to draw 2 additional cards. Instead of drawing the first of the two cards, he can instead dredge 3 cards, return life from the loam from his hand, and then draw his "second" additional card. As Carl is not drawing a card via library's effect when dredging life from the loam, he can choose to return the "second drawn card" to his library. This way he gets his draw for turn AND can return life from the loam to his hand, and not lose 4 life. Additionally, he can choose to apply the dredge in any order such that he can sneakily keep the 1st draw for turn, and also draw the first of 2 cards granted by library, then dredge 3 cards and return life from the loam in lieu of the second additional card, and put back either of the two cards drawn that turn in case he wanted to draw that 1st card next turn during his normal draw for turn. This way he can float a card on the top of the library indefinitely while still dredging to loam.

Hey guys, I have a question. Andrea mentioned at 19:08, that a player can take back their land to hand if nothing happened since they they played it. I never heard of that and started googleing. It seems that it can be allowed by a judge, but is not an actual rule. Can someone help me on that, maybe I didn't find the actual wording? :) Thanks in advance!

I can help :) as long as you don't pass priority, you can take everything you did back. Most actions pass priority to your opponent and they get to respond. But playing lands and tapping them do not let your opponent have priority to respond. Therefore, they can be undone.

No way this has 2.8k views after 5 hours. The amount of effort, visualization, this video is incredible.

Real close matchup, Mengu being 1 land off from escaping the lock was pretty great. Glad to see a chasm lock show up though, I was wondering how feasible of a strat it was for the deck / how common it was.

Fun interaction of Sylvan Library and Life from the Loam (or any dredge cards), if you dredge you didn't draw that card so if you dredged 2 of the draws you only have 1 drawn card to pay for or put back and if you dredged for all 3 of the draws you don't put back anything.

I wanna see Carl win the whole thing. He obviously loves the deck and plays it so well. Damn Flash Hulk, though. C’mon Toralf - take down Jamin, please.

Technically, you may dredge the last card you would draw from Silvan Library, since Dredge allows to choose if drawing or milling.

15:40 would it not be better to cycle in response to deathrite's ability so that you would preserve your loam?

Yes! But I forgot to keep a green mana open 😅 I was really kicking myself after that
