On my Burgman I prefer “low” setting, probably same case for bikes with big windshield. If I use medium, ACG raise volume too high, so you need to manually readjust it all the time

I found out what was wrong, if you listen to apple music, idk why but, apple will be sneaky sometimes through updates and they turned my sound check on which will ruin your loudness, cut it off and in your phone settings and everything will be good again, if its on it cripples all Bluetooth devices

I have a recently purchased set of Bold units and find the volume to be dismally low compared to my former wired BMW headsets. I believe mine are still on the default setting, which I think is medium, and this may be my problem. The volume is not bad when not wearing earplugs, but I always where earplugs when riding any distance at all. I was not sure how the Cardo algorithm worked for this autovolume, but it makes sense now that I understand it. The higher the autovolume setting, the greater the “setback” from max volume prior to any automatic volume adjustment. I ride a fairly quite bike (K1200LT) and I am guessing the wind noise isn’t enough to get the auto volume adjustment to crank up enough on the medium setting. I am going to try OFF next and see if I can manually get enough volume to hear with my earplugs installed. My corded headset had plenty of volume capability even with earplugs in. I needed only about half the volume capability with them so I was surprised that even at full volume, the Cardo units are insufficient. Hopefully, some changes to this autovolume setting will help. And I did buy the JBL speakers, but they aren’t all that impressive. Maybe it is just the volume issue, but so far they don’t sound as good as my 12 year old BMW (made by J&M) corded headset.

@LTVoyager Hmmmm yeah something sounds funky. They should be pretty d@mn loud!? I know this is a pain, but this is what I've done to make sure I get the speakers correctly placed... perhaps it's worth trying just to make sure: -Remove the speakers from the helmet and while holding them in your hands, place them DIRECTLY over your ears (earplugs in, and speakers touching your ears) -Turn Packtalk all the way up (with the Auto-Gain setting "off" it won't be reliant on ambient noise to get as loud as possible) It should be plenty loud at this point -Position the speakers in your helmet so that they sound exactly as they did when you were holding them...this insures they're in the right place. If your helmet has a place for the speakers to go; disregard it. Put the speakers wherever they need to be to sound like they did when you were holding them against your ears. This should solve the issue (assuming nothing is wrong with your headset itself). The volume coming out of these should be borderline too-much at max volume... I hope that helps and let me know how the test goes!!
@LTVoyager5 жыл бұрын
MotoGeek Freak Mine are borderline too loud without earplugs and I did test them before installation. I just didn’t hold them against my ears while wearing earplugs before installation. I will experiment with the autovolume settings and see if that helps.

MotoGeek Freak So, I turned the AGC off using the app. I then power cycled the Bold as you mentioned that the off setting seemed to not take effect without a power cycle. The volume definitely seems louder than it was on the default medium setting. It is plenty loud without earplugs in as that was my first test. I could stand it on full volume, but it was getting to the threshold where you would not want to listen to it very long at that volume. Not quite rock concert volume, but then I don’t want to listen that that very long anymore either! I then inserted my ear plugs and with the volume on full, the music was fairly clear. I backed it off using the voice commands and two iterations of “Hey Cardo, volume down” was about all I could do and still hear the music at 55 MPH on my KLR650. A third “volume down” command made the music quite faint with the earplugs in. So, better, but still not as good as I would like and much less volume capability than corded headsets. Using a poor, fair, good excellent scale, I would rate the Packtalk Bold JBL sound as fair now, whereas it was poor on the medium AGC setting. I would rate my corded headsets as good on this scale and excellent would be a pair of earbuds that serve both speaker and earplug roles with the speakers now inside the earplugs. 😁

@@LTVoyager Enjoy your comments; extremely detailed yet to the point. Happy to hear that you got some noticeable boost when disabling AGC (allowing you to go to it's TRUE max volume without the need for ambient noise). Did you end up trying the "hold the speakers directly against your ears then chase that same volume in the helmet with speaker placement" method? I still think there might be a lot more to gain by doing so...... but you're there and I'm here so not much basis for claiming so, ha! (still, you should try it just in case) BTW they make such a thing (earphones that are molded to YOUR ear and double as earplugs. Had some made a few months back and they are AWE-SOME.)

hello, perhaps you have a solution for this, we using the intercom mode and both have the radio on. When we talk to eachother both radio volume is going to the background. When we do not talk then my radio volume is going back to the volume i want, but the the cardo of my boyfriend is stays low. The presets are exactly the same. very odd.
@MotoGeekFreak3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm yeah that is odd. Only thing I would suggest is to have him set his FM volume prior to you turning on your headset. Once he has it nice and loud, turn yours on and begin to speak. The FM volume will sink to the background as it should....but....when you (and him) stop speaking, the volume of his headset's FM SHOULD return to that "pre-intercom" level. You won't have to do this every time, but it's the only way I can think of to shake the bug out of what is going on. Hope that helps and hope it works!

Hi, i've recently bought the Cardo Packtalk but keep having trouble with an echoing sound. Due to the loudness of the speakers it keeps activating the microphone and lowers the volume (whilst playing music).
@MotoGeekFreak3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow - I haven't heard of this before. Sorry for the stupid question but does that happen only when the helmet is off (because I could almost see that making sense) or does it happen when you're wearing the helmet (this one is harder to wrap my head around because that shouldn't be loud enough to trigger the mic like that). Perhaps try changing the mic sensitivity to "Low", that should definitely help... hope so!

I have no clue as to why these are rated as highly as they are. I had a Sena set and switched to one of these after reading all the positive reviews but my son and I can hardly hear each other on these and eventually just give up trying to communicate with each other after a while. Luckily I still have my Sena and will be switching back (and it isn't even one of the later Sena series). Also, I swapped helmets with my mate's girlfriend so I could chat with him a month or so ago and there el cheapo ebay Chinese ones sounded MUCH louder and clearer than either my Cardo or Sena. WTF!
@MotoGeekFreak3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's super strange - bummer to hear that was your experience! I honestly cannot turn mine all the way up because at that point it's far TOO loud. Speaker position and mic placement (of whoever is talking to you) is critical, and assuming those were correct, you should have had all the volume you could ask for. Strange.

Hey, when riding if I receive a phone call the ring tone BLOWS my ears off, no matter what volume I have the call setting at or music, it is way louder than my music ever could possibly be. Is there a setting where I can turn down the ring tone? My phone is on silent in my pocket if that helps.
@MotoGeekFreak4 жыл бұрын
I haven't come across this so I'm really guessing, but have you tried adjusting the "System Volume" (or maybe it's "System Announcements" under the Volume tab in the Cardo Connect app? Curios if that would fix it. Otherwise I'd dig into the volume settings of your phone, specifically if there's anything about volume when paired to a Bluetooth device. Also, try pairing your Packtalk to someone else's phone; if it still does it you know something is up with the Packtalk. If it doesn't blow your ears off when paired to a different phone, you know it's something with your phone. Hope that helps and good luck!

I get closer to 10 on average. Maybe 13 if I'm hardly using it (FM radio only and at low volume) and as low as 8 if I'm really working it (multiple riders all connected in DMC and blasting music in the background), so I'd say if you're getting anything less than that prob worth reaching out to them for warranty.

Hey there - not sure if you’re on Android or not (I only know iOS), but it should be there regardless I would think? Make sure you’re using the Cardo Connect app, and your firmware on your Cardo is up to date. Also, not sure if that’s an option for their FREECOM line so that may be the case as well (might only be for DMC/Mesh headsets). Hope that helps!

Turning off Auto Volume is working for me. I drive a fairly quiet bike (BMW RTW), and the fairling keeps the noise level pretty low. But I am having a problem with the volume level fluctuating when\2ever my wife turns on her Packtalk. Mine goes from LOUD to medium on about a 2-second cycle--like her unit wants to transmit something. Her settings are same as mine: Microphone sensitivity is set to medium. There is absolutely no sound in our "living room test". Any ideas?
@MotoGeekFreak3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...the music will definitely lower when someone else (in this case your wife) transmits...could it perhaps be her breathing? Does the same thing happen if you put YOUR Packtakl on her base and visa-versa? I would try a couple things...try heading outside where there's a little more ambient noise and see if it continues. The mics get progressively more stubborn as the ambient noise goes up. If that doesn't do the trick, set her mic sensitivity to "Low" and test again. There's definitely something going on with her Packtalk broadcasting... just have to figure out what's going on there... I hope that helps!

Do you know how to fix the speaker louder on 1 side than the other?
@MotoGeekFreak3 жыл бұрын
This sounds terribly obvious, but do try - it's 99% chance going to be caused by one of the speakers being in the "ideal" spot while the other is off just a bit. Trying adjusting quieter speaker just a bit to get it in a better position over your ear. I'm almost certain that will do the trick. Also worth checking, make SURE the speakers are plugged-in all the way. Hope that helps and good luck!

Does the volume go up when you tap on the headset (like in this video)? If it does, then the Auto Volume is working properly, so that's good. If it doesn't, then something's up. Assuming it DOES work, could it be that the speakers need to be in a better position over your ear? It should be plenty loud (and stay that way) when they are directly over your ears, but if they're a little out of position it can rob volume massively. The only time it should go down at all is when the auto volume lowers back to "normal" when your ambient noise decreases. Otherwise, somethings up and I'd give them a ring for sure. Hope that helps!
