Yes, with something about how the 30K mesh can break away into two smaller meshes if the wrong person leaves the group. Or how the Packtalk Slim is not that comfortable if you have multiple helmets and want to switch between them.

@@mbirth Wouldn't it be a problem for all comms, not just the Packtalk Slim?
@mbirth5 жыл бұрын
@@32carus The "big" Packtalk has a helmet mount where you attach the actual comm unit to. So if you have multiple helmets, you just buy more of these mounts (~$50-70) and attach the base unit to whatever helmet you want to use with one click. The Packtalk Slim isn't detachable. You could maybe fiddle around with the microphone/headphone connections, but you'd have to do cable management afterwards and also I'm not sure how sturdy that microphone connector actually is.

Great video review! I use to be a hard core Sena guy but now I am a Cardo guy. I use comms almost every day with either my woman or with friends. Last I had from Sena was the 30k and also the older 20s but only because others also had Sena comm units. I thought the Sena worked rather well but then somebody told me to try out the new Cardo PackTalk Bold series. So my lady and I sold our 30k set after watching videos and reading reviews. Just an FYI, we honestly think the 20s were better then the 30k. Anyway, we bought the new Packtalk Bold duo set. All I can say is bravo to Cardo! For starters the two Cardo Packtalk bold comm units were already meshed together out of the box, so they were ready to use instantly and we did use them instantly with no changes or updates on the first day. I love the fact that they are completely silent if nobody is talking, like seriously just plain no road noise and nothing until someone speaks (at first thought they were broke, lol). The app is awesome too, but almost too many features and let's not get into all of the voice commands too, lol. I could rave about many other things but let's just say Cardo won my lady and I over to Cardo from Sena. Oh and Yes you can get a Cardo PackTalk bold to talk to a Sena 30k too. Cardo has been around a long time tons of Harley riders use them daily. Just an FYI, our local rider groups are mostly sport bike riders, so with any comm unit they can get noisy after 100mph, but for cruising the Cardo is super quiet.

I did buy the Cardo Packtalk Slim after seeing many videos, and especially this one, end of a August 2018. This unit worked more or less fine (although I had to factory reset it twice and the comm setup with others was a challenge ) for a month an a half, until it simply died. Drove to the office in the morning and had the thing turned on (so working fine), just to not be able to turn it back on for the way back home. Sent it back to the reseller and got a new one. Mounted it, set it up. Worked fine for the first 200km (it was pouring down), then its artificial intelligence came to life. Functions that weren't triggered did spontaneously activate (like the radio) unable to shut these down. Communication with the mobile phone, the TomTom and the other fellow riders, who I was leading fir a 1600km Tour continued to break up. Until I only heard the radio on which no station was neither selected nor selectable, so just some white noise. Did I mention that the Cardo did no longer respond to any keys commands and that I couldn't switch the unit off? Arrived at the very first hotel (after detaching the speakers because of the radio noise I couldn't turn off) I let the Cardo die of battery (because you cannot unplug the battery) before recharging it in order to do a factory reset. It kept working for yet another 2 hours before having again comm issues. Factory Reset. Not much of an improvement. So I decided to turn it off and let it turned off for the remaining 1000km. Arrived at home I unmounted everything and sent it straight back to the reseller for a refund. I will never buy Cardo again.

I bought three Cardo units to communicate with another rider and my pillion. Endless issues with connectivity. I was only ever able to speak to my pillion once, despite factory resets, Bluetooth resets etc. Switched to Sena and problems solved. +1 LetterKenny Love my Packtalk, period. Once you've experienced a unit that has no "noticeable" delay, Bluetooth is obsolete. Occasionally I've experienced a connection issue and the button sequences are insane, but once you get the hang of it, it just works. Cell call quality while riding I'm told is as good as any normal call. Winner in my book. Slim ups the ante.

After extensive research on Revzilla, other Amazon reviews, and various motorcycle forums I had dwindled my decision down to two products; the SENA 10S and the Cardo Packtalk BOLD. I decided to buy the 10S initially due to the overwhelming positive reviews available. Thus I will often reference Cardo since most interested buyers compare these two products and since I now own a Cardo Packtalk BOLD. SUMMARY IS 2ND LAST PARAGRAPH FOR YOU LAZY PEOPLE. Installation for this product is extremely easy and similar to other Bluetooth units. The build quality of the clamp and the Bluetooth unit are extremely durable for my riding conditions (although I have not ridden in rain). The section of the unit that mounts to the helmet won’t budge; additionally the Bluetooth unit’s locking mechanism is very secure. Jog dial has a nice feel with small resistance notches helping you indicate whether you’ve actually moved the dial. 5/5 stars for mechanical design. The ergonomics are too complex for me. It was difficult to use the jog dial while riding. There are too many order of operations to remember. Additionally it can be difficult to locate the jog dial while riding. I applaud SENA for providing all these options but I just found it too confusing. Of course my judgement is clouded by Cardo’s impeccable ergonomic design and this is primarily due to the voice command available in the Cardo Packtalk BOLD. Although there are more buttons on the Cardo, I never use them other than turning the device on and off because everything I need can be done through voice command which makes it a more efficient device that increases safety. Voice commands are so nice . 3/5 for ergonomics Rider to rider connection on the Sena 10S is garbage and a complete nightmare. My buddy and I rode to Yosemite and we disconnected around bends and mountains multiple times (which is expected). But I guess around one bend the 10S did not want to reconnect so we pulled over in a parking lot to try and manually reconnect (note my friends device was also a SENA product, I believe it was the SMH10). After about 15-20 minutes of trial and error, we gave up and continued with our trip. We went on our hike and came back to the same issue of a failure to connect devices. It turned out that the SENA application on my phone was causing the issue because after deleting it we were able to connect. However even connecting with my phone is a hassle sometimes, it doesn’t auto-connect with previously paired devices. I’ve never had this problem with the Cardo Packtalk BOLD. It instantly pairs with my phone as soon as I turn it on; additionally it seamlessly pairs with other Cardo devices even while I have the application on my phone, imagine that! My friend and I did a similar trip and we disconnected multiple times around bends and we connected back up every time. Thus Bluetooth/wireless connection technology is garbage on the SENA. This experience paired with another (which I’ll discuss below) was the reason I returned this product to Amazon. 1/5 for Bluetooth connectivity The audio from rider to rider is pretty clear and does a good job of cutting out wind and exhaust noise. Music audio is also clear and can be heard at 80+ mph, although not really with ear plugs. The audio is extremely tinny in the 10S, no bass whatsoever. The output of the speakers can best be described as if someone put on your music at one end of a speaking tube at your local park and blasted it to you while you listened on the other end. Additionally there was a lot of static/unwanted noise from my speakers. I couldn’t determine if it was from pinched wires that ran from the unit to my speakers, or if it was just a shitty electronic design where they decided to cheap out on some filters. All in all, it was extremely annoying to constantly listen to this buzz. Cardo’s speakers on the other hand are WAY better than the ones provided with the SENA unit, granted they are JBL. But trust me, there is a significant improvement is the crispness and bass quality. There is no clipping or distortion at maximum volume. I’m positive the speakers are rated for a higher wattage than what the unit can output. I wear earplugs on long commutes and average a speed between 75-85 mph and I can hear clear muffled music. I'm also able to place voice commands at those speeds, meaning the Cardo does a great job of discerning irrelevant noise, but the SENA did this just as well when I was on comms with my friend. Additionally the Cardo comes with a standard auxiliary plug allowing you to disconnect the speakers if you wish. SENA uses a hardline integrated connected meaning you can’t disconnect the speakers from the bluetooth unit, which I believe was the source of the constant crackling in my speakers. 1/5 for Audio Quality Basically what I found was, a lot of the functions are the same between the two products, but Cardo just one-ups SENA in each category. There are a couple added benefits in the Cardo such as voice command and sound quality. However what you are paying for is the ease of use. I’ve owned the Cardo for a few months now, and never fidget with it. I get on my bike, turn on my device and it starts to work flawlessly immediately. When I had the SENA, I was always messing around with it trying to readjust the volume, reconnect my phone, etc. I didn’t expect a big difference from the sound either in the Cardo but boy was I wrong, it’s a night and day difference. If you are on the fence about buying a SENA 10S or a Cardo Packtalk BOLD I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO BUY THE CARDO PALKTALK BOLD. Right now the 10S is listed for around $211, while the Cardo Packtalk BOLD JBL is listed at $248; a difference of $37. Hopefully you have friends because if you do, convince one of them to split the cost with you on the Packtalk BOLD JBL duo set (its cheaper). Or buy both, try both and bite the bullet when returning the other, I guarantee you’ll keep be the Packtalk BOLD. Overall 2/5 for 10S Comment if you want me to review anything else about these two products, I’ll do my best. Thanks for reading.

What about audio quality from speakers and microphone? Riding down the highway with earplugs it's important with high volume AND clarity. When talking to your friend a good microphone improves the situation.

i own the original packtalk and the audio from both ends was fine, the newer models come with jbl audio speakers but mine hasnt come in yet so i cant speak from experience yet.

Are you gonna do a best communication system for 2019 ? Also what would u recommend for great music with occasional communication use?
That was fantastic. You have a great way of making the mundane entertaining. And the Letterkenny opening style was a nice touch.
@TweakedTay6 жыл бұрын
But the 20S does have voice command.... You just say 'Hello Sena' and off she goes...? Works on mine at least.... Most excellent Letterkenny references though, guys. Not at all soft.

Yeah, but you gotta say Seena, not Senna, so it makes sense it didn't work for RyanF9.

It's obviously not Canadian-compatible. "Zee" will work but it will flunk on "Zed".
@taybeltz6 жыл бұрын
There is a massive difference between “voice command” and “natural voice operation” that the Packtalk Bold /slim have. Voice command is a multi-step workflow in order to get anything done, natural voice is truly hands free like Alexa, Google, or “J.A.R.V.I.S.”. If you’re looking to utilize your voice over controlling by hand, the Packtalk Bold /Slim are your only option for a great experience. As Motogeek Freak stated above: "With the Packtalk Bold/Slim: You: “Hey Cardo, next track” Packtalk: Done. There is nothing else on the market like that.

Whats the verdict? Was it the right move?
@demonkey1233 жыл бұрын
Just to point out that Cardo units are rated at IP67 and are relatively waterproof (backed by the manufacturer) whereas Sena units are NOT waterproof or water resistant in any way. Sena units come with 'dust covers' for open ports and button gaiters etc but are not suitable for rain! Sena make no mention of 'weatherproofing of any of its product documentation. I live in Northern England and found out the hard way. Wet weather riders be warned!
@TheJerseyBiker6 жыл бұрын
Hiya Ryan that is probably the funniest comparison review I have ever seen, but just to clarify while I wipe away the tears... For someone who will be travelling around the world in all kinds of weather you are recommending Cardo?? 🤣

Yes indeed. It might still go kaput (unlikely) but Cardo will replace it if so. Doing a round-the-world ride? ~RF9

It feels like SENA has a bigger portion of the market under control. Do you think that's because all the motovloggers use it or because of the bigger buttons..
@kinkinhood6 жыл бұрын
OK Motorcu I'd say likely. Sena and gopro got in bed together pretty early and you can easily pull microphone pickup from the sena to the gopro. Honestly if it wasn't for the point everyone I ride with uses sena I'd likely have gone cardo
@FortNine6 жыл бұрын
Better timing, I think. Sena had a dominant product line and pricing 5-10 years ago, which is when everyone got on board with comms. Now they're floating on that reputation / brand loyalty. ~RF9
@kinkinhood6 жыл бұрын
FortNine it's similar to how gopro has the lions share of the market for action cams despite the Sony ones being built better and less drag when it's on the side of your helmet. Hey Fort nine, ever thought of doing an action cam comparison? Do a comparison between the top of the line Garmin one, the top of the line gopro, and the top of the line Sony unit?
@eveRide6 жыл бұрын
Sena gave a LOT of headsets away to motovloggers. Almost anybody who asked could get one. Like Ryan says at the end of the video, you get what your friends get. The first gen Senas were great, then came the "planned obsolescence" firmware updates. Cardo makes a far better unit now IMO.

@mwkoskamp13 жыл бұрын
Freecom 2 is 150 euro's. And can be mounted with a stick plate. Not every helmet is suitable for putting clamps between the inner and outer shell. Also some helmets have prepararations for building in an sena 20 internally (why??). In that case it is hard to put in the battery of the pack talk slim. There should be a market standard for built in communication sets.

People..... save your money and stay away from Sena garbage. Here's how all my gang run now... Chinese M1-S head unit, Luiton Wireless Bluetooth Headset Walkie Talkie PTT, and Radioddity GD-77's. It sounds crazy but it's a neat little package that gives us wireless PTT capabilities with digital DMR radios that gives us realistic distances and enables us that are licensed to operate through HAM repeaters when we feel like it while still giving us the advantage of seamless bluetooth phone and music utilization... everything pairs up perfectly and we have mega hours of battery life and no wires to bother us. Look into it folks... I plan on making a short video to show folks what I mean and how it all ties together and just how much better all my no name chinese cheapo stuff does the job 10X better than Sena or Cardo can do... It took me a year to find everything you need to make this work but it was worth it!

you need the Luiton Bluetooth headset. you take the jawbone part and boot fuck that into the garbage or pair it to your phone.... you pair the Luiton system adapter that plugs into your comms radio to you helmet comm unit as another headset and BIZAM you're in business!

Still Cardo. Why pay for a non-waterproof, bluetooth unit that will require an adapter for mesh? Buy the Cardo and spare yourself the hassle.
@fhansen5 жыл бұрын
@@cxns155 completely see your point from a rational angle but it's hard for Germans not to follow instructions. Shoei manhandled me into getting the SRL2 so all is lost and I've already ordered the +Mesh. Part of me is happy that everything will be nice and snugly fitted into its preallocated slots. The other part is ashamed...

I have a Packtalk (not bold). The 40mm speakers in the bold are a nice upgrade. I got a pair for my older one. I do have some complaints however about the reliability of starting a conversation. It doesn't happen throughout the ride, but at the beginning.. It doesn't always want to rejoin the pack easily. Sometimes they have to be restarted or toggled to bluetooth mode and back to DMC. Otherwise, I have never understood why people would buy a water 'resistant' anything. Going down the highway at 70mph can force water droplets in all sorts of weird ways. I also had to get a warranty replacement for mine (wouldn't power on / boot up properly). No problem. Got a new one and good to go. My other buddy dropped his helmet and smashed the antenna. No problem. Got a new one.
