At 2:50 turn on both generator switches. Do not leave them off. This is the normal start procedure and its called a cross-generator start. If you want to start with ground power, then you can leave these switches off, otherwise, turn them on here. At 3:03 the interior panel lights: those rotary knobs don't do anything with their respective lights until you flip up that toggle switch (second switch from the left on that same lighting panel) which is the Master Lighting switch. I couldn't see but if those rotary knob lights actually illuminated then this lighting panel was not modeled correctly. As part of our pre-flight, we rotate all those lighting knobs full on and then flip up the master lighting switch and verify all those lights come on. At 4:34 engine start: you do not need to turn on the fuel boost pumps or the ignition. These come on automatically during the engine start. If by chance you do leave these switches off and try to start an engine, if the engine won't start, then they modeled these switches incorrectly if you've determine these switches must be on to start an engine. I won't go into these switches here but they are more complicated than just being on/off switches. They have an Auto feature as well. Here is the correct Citation II engine start sequence: Push the engine start button. See Note 1. At 8/10% N2, bring the throttle out of cutoff (as you did, nice job, most KZbinrs miss that) Ignition “on” (check green light). See Note 2. First Officer calls: "FUEL BOOST ON" First Officer calls: "FUEL PRESS LO" light extinguished First Officer calls: "Oil pressure rising" Light off within 10 seconds or abort the start ITT max 700C for 2 seconds. If higher abort the start N1 rotation by 20-25% N2 or abort the start 38% N2 starter cut out. See Note 3. Boost pump goes off automatically Ignition goes off automatically Note 1: At this time, you want to look at the top of the N1 engine gauge. Right above it is the engine instruments flood light. It should change intensity and you should be able to observe this intensity change. This happens when the engine flood lights switch over to their own battery power. This is part of the emergency lighting system. If the intensity doesn't change, most likely this flood light will extinguish. This indicates an emergency lighting system battery pack failure. You might as well abort the start...you're not going to fly today. You cannot fly without a good emergency lighting battery pack. Note 2: When you bring the throttle out of cutoff, you need to look at the ignition panel and a green light should illuminate. This indicates the ignition is on (the ignitor plug is sparking). If you don't see this green light, the engine will not start, so you might as well abort the start as soon as you observe no green light. The engine isn't going to light off. Note 3: At 38% N2 you need to verify starter cutout. If you don't get starter cutout, indicated by the big white round start button light remaining illuminated, just push the Starter Disengage button. You don't have to shutdown the engine as long as the starter disengages, manually in this case. In the training world, on an engine start, the First Officer only calls three items and nothing else. If anything else abnormal happens, the instructor will expect the PIC to notice it, call it out and take corrective action. After the first engine starts, you have to push up the throttle to 49%-50% before starting the second engine to get enough output from the generator for the start. If you don't, the second engine start may 'hang' on you and force you to abort the start. This is for a cross-generator start which is the normal procedure done. As an FYI, the two things almost all Citation II pilots fail to observe during initial pilot training in the simulator is (1) the green ignition light coming on during the engine start and (2) observing the emergency flood lights are still working during the engine start sequence. At 6:29 don't turn on Pitot heat until you've been cleared for take off. Why? Because there is a 2 min limitation for Pitot heat being on while on the ground. At 17:50 the flaps come up at V2 + 10 knots. The call is "V2 + 10 flaps up". You were ok to bring the flaps up where and when you did -- but -- when pilots come to school to get their Type Rating on the Citation II, they are taught when to call for flaps up after TO and it's V2 + 10 flaps up. If they are late on that call, the instructor will comment on that in the debrief. At 20:30 you were fine to press IAS mode. When pressed, the aircraft (with the autopilot on) will pitch to maintain the airspeed at the time you pressed IAS. After you did that, you moved the airspeed bug around and said you were changing the airspeed. The airspeed bug does NOTHING. It is for your visual reference only. It will not change the IAS airspeed. If it does, the system is modeled wrong. At 20:40 you have the autopilot off and you are hand flying the airplane. You made some changes to the FD Mode Control panel (selecting IAS mode, selecting altitude select). You said the aircraft will maintain etc. etc. Now this is important: The aircraft will NOT do any of that because the autopilot is off and YOU are hand flying the airplane. You have your Flight Director command bars displayed. Any changes you make on the FD Mode Control panel will be reflected in the FD command bars and it's YOU that must fly those command bars to get the results you have programmed in. This is an important point because you don't seem to realize who is flying the airplane when you said "...the aircraft will maintain airspeed, etc. etc." because at that point the autopilot was off. The reason this is important is because if you don't understand how the autopilot works with the FD Mode Control panel vs the Flight Director...you can kill yourself if you're flying hard IFR (flying in the clouds). The pilots who come to Type Rating school and fly the Citation II, if they said what you said at 20:40 on their check ride, the ride would be immediately over with a fail. An immediate bust. Game over. You'll need more avionics training before you can try again.

I just wish the GTN 750 was able to use updated AIRAC data from Navigraph. If you fly online, you may have some issues with old data. At least the XP FMS can be updated. To update the 750, you need a Garmin subscription which is hundreds of dollars.

I was a flight follower for my government plane and flew this in the citation sim we had and I have been in it as a passenger. If there are altitude restrictions properly entered either in the GTN 750 or the FMS, wouldn’t you simply set your IAF altitude and let the Garmin or FMC manage the descent assuming no atc instructions for other altitudes?
@jcuellars6 жыл бұрын
@@ripper8771 hi, if your aircraft is VNAV capable it is possible if ART does not restrict you with a specific altitude.

Thanks for this video. Great job. Carenado did not include much detail on the Engine Start checklist (nothing about the throttle locks, fuel boost, igniters, etc.) so it helped watching this so I could complete my own checklist. BTW, as you were landing, three smaller windows appeared at the bottom of your video. Is that something in X-Plane 11 or some other thing you did? That is one of the things I liked in P3D (additional windows) but I have not seen any way to do that in X-Plane. Thanks again!
