I was comparing this with the CHR Koba hybrid and while the latter had a better feature set on paper, after test driving both I went for the HRV instead. What is interesting is that with all the options I ticked for each of them they cost similar to each other The more modern design, better interior, handling and cheaper servicing cost of the HRV for the first 5 years won me over.

@@eversun77 I doubt it, it’s too expensive for what you get. Paying $46k for a small SUV is quite steep and don’t even get sun roof, leather seats, or power/memory seats. Honda dealership told me this was equivalent to CHR offering but there are other slightly larger cars such as the CX30 which people consider when purchasing in this small suv range. The 1.5L engine is so sad, it seems like they only considered fuel economy. You push it a little and I feel like I’m going to break the engine bc it’s so loud

I just got this guy yesterday. I would say that all sensings work wonderfully. In Thailand, we have an option for entry trim level with 17' alloy wheels, and a front grill in piano black. All sensings remain equipped. Things that you missed on entry-level were fog lamps, lane watch, and a power tail gate. Personally, the entry-level one is a bang for the bucks

@@Row2nd it is a very good choice as all sensings remain in with decent options for daily use. The sunroof is only for the top trim level. For the drive, it is on par with other trim levels except for the top-spec trim as the VGR steering wheel is in-place. In Thailand, 0.979 m THB for entry, 1.079 m THB for the mid, and 1.179 for the top-spec trim level. Extra 10,000 THB is needed if you go for red and white body colour.

Hi. I bought and have the Thailand version of the HR-V eHev RS. I love the vehicle as my daily driver. I get about 23km per liter of petrol in the city. Yes, it can be noisy when you accelerate and get up to highway speeds but most of my driving is done in the city. The interior is spacious, pleasant, and comfortable. It's funny to see the differences between the Australian and Thailand specs. Thailand's RS spec comes standard with full leather seats, a wireless charger, and a panoramic sunroof. However, the center screen is smaller and not as premium, doesn't have blind spot sensors, and doesn't have a heated steering wheel.

Went to the dealership to have a peak of the hybrid and instantly love it. Wife love the EV drive feel while not panic of range anxiety. Honda Japan quality. Admit it’s a bit expensive (AU$2-3k) but $125 per service for 5 yrs made up the difference with competitors. Most of all, it’s a new hybrid Honda with the magic seats. All previous Honda owners love that. Clever Honda design does have some values in this car. Those people compare spec sheets won’t know until you test it. We put the order and now have to wait 5 months to get it. Cannot wait.

@@Mmm66689 I really liked the HRV but a few things turned me off. No price negotiation, for the price no full leather seats or even powered seats, CVT, 4 star euro NCAP, but I think the biggest fear that I have is Honda pulling out. There sales have tanked i don’t see how it will be sustainable. I really liked the HRV but between the CX 30 and HRV I went with the CX 30. But I really hope you enjoy your HRV bc it is a lovely car

@@cityplanner3063 totally understand. We all weight the function/design differently, i.e. we don't like leather seats because its too cold for winter and too hot for summer, etc.. Only thing want to let you know is because it is really an EV rather than a RAV4 style hybrid, it is not really a CVT. They marketing it as a e-CVT but it is not the CVT you have known on the ICE cars because it is an EV with ICE charging the e-motor. CX30 is a nice car and more premium feel inside as we have owned a mazda3. Go for what you think meet your needs.

Some clarification on the "eCVT" transmission in the hybrid HRV: When you boot it and it sounds like it's going through the gears, and in around-town driving when the battery needs charging, the engine will run but is only directly connected to the motor/generator, which in turn provides electrical power (via the inverter) to help drive the primary electric motor, and to top up the battery; the going through the gears sound is just there to sound familiar and "sporty." Over around 100 km/h the engine also runs (always connected to the the motor/generator) but now disengages a clutch to directly engage the final drive, and the wheels, via an overdrive gear. So in summary: There are no belts and cones and hydraulics in the classical variable ratio CVT sense, and there are no planetary gear sets. The primary electric motor is directly connected to the final drive and always runs, the motor/generator is directly connected to the engine - and runs with the engine to help drive the primary electric motor, and to top up the battery; and the engine is only ever connected to the final drive when cruising. How about reverse? The primary electric motor simply runs backwards.
@djc2609
@djc2609 2 жыл бұрын
Good explanation of how it works. Many reviewers simply seem to be clueless about it and make misleading statements everywhere. This is also where this car excels because the fact that the engine doesn't drive the wheels directly around town, you have much less vibration from the engine.

I like Honda as a nameplate but it's in direct competition with Mazda in that subpremium Japanese market, and the fact is that while Honda makes ultrareliable cars, for the same price, Mazda loads their cars with electronic everything and adds a few genuinely premium touches such as nappa leather and top shelf noise insulation. Honda needs to up their game if they are to sell cars like the HR-V and Civic at $45k plus.
@cityplanner3063
@cityplanner3063 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. We were looking to purchase a new car and in the end it was down to the HRV and CX 30. We didn’t mind if we got a Hybrid but $45K just over our budget what we would of got it if we liked it. The exterior looks nice imo and magic seats are really nice and I quite liked the interior (not as premium as CX 30 but good enough). What turned me off was that for $45k and they are saying this is there top of the range seats weren’t full leather, no electric seat adjustment and no sun roof. We also had a very poor test drive, they would only take us on a small circuit which I couldn’t really gauge what the car felt like. On the other hand Mazda just gave us the keys and we drove around wherever we wanted for 25 mins. One thing I noticed during the test drive of the HRV was the engine noise when pushing it a little bit and that reminded me of my current ASX. As we don’t drive a lot hybrid isn’t a deal breaker so we just brought the CX 30 touring SP for $40,500. Felt like a much better deal

It’s no wonder Mazda is our 2nd best seller after Toyota, which no doubt is boosted by fleet sales. But Mazda instead is a hit with private buyers looking for something with a nice interior and reliable but not exorbitant. Honda misses the mark with crazy pricing without the luxury feel to match it. $47k Civics, you gotta be joking. Don’t forget Honda pricing is non negotiable unlike Mazda.

Honda Australia are taking the piss with the new Civic and HRV. Both should come with the hybrid powertrain only and neither should cost as much as they do. 47k for a Civic, seriously? It isn't even that well specced, nor powerful nor a hybrid. In other markets I've seen the HRV also come with other interior colour options which would be nice to see here. I'm all for a simplified model and trim line-up as well as the simplified pricing but come on. You are throwing your money away if you buy the new Civic, just get a i30 sedan N-Line Premium, cheaper, better specced and in my subjective opinion more special/fancy. I would like to see Honda AU drop the non hybrid HRV and bring the hybrid spec down to 40k, bring the Civic down from 47 to 40k and give us the 2.0 hybrid instead of the 1.5 turbo, and to bring back the Jazz (also only in hybrid spec)!

@@jay-uo2bi All good points, but I’ve got an N Line. My very first Hyundai and I was sold a lemon. Purchased brand new, but had a manufacturing fault bad enough that they had to replace the whole engine! Took twelve months of nightmarish dealings with the dealership in southern Sydney and Hyundai..,I was treated like I was their enemy not a customer. I didn’t cause the fault, I was just the poor bunny who bought the car and detected it, btw it wasn’t hard to detect, but I was continually ignored or brushed aside. Finally they had to do something. In compensation after them having my car for three months I received two complimentary services from Hyundai and the dealership returned the car with low tyre pressure in both rear tyres, the clock wasn’t even set to the current time and a rough wash. On my experience would never part with my money to Hyundai again and would not go near the dealership or their incompetent service centre again.

Yeah - same good things but also the same vices as the previous generation of HRV, please introduce Honda engineers to something called soundproofing because they went to all the effort to introduce a good hybrid drive train and now charge a premium price for a noisy Honda Jazz on stilts, at least they fixed the diabolical previous entertainement unit, no ability for a 5th seat will instantly rule it out for a lot of people, who frankly couldn't get past the sticker shock anyway. I assume the non-hybrid is a perfomance slug/embarresment?

Well done for not whinging about the ICE noise on acceleration. nearly all other reviewers moan abut the excessive noise. It only gets a bit vocal under hard acceleration. You missed Honda's heavily stressed point about the 'diffused ' air vents outboard on both sides of the dashboard. About which they are very proud!! You also missed out the new touch operated rear LED interior ceiling lights and the 'walk away' boot lid closing button. (unless you don't have that in Oz?) Your 0-62mph (0-100Kmh) speed is what the factory claim, but other reviewers and myself have managed 8.9 0-62 (0-100) in Sport mode. The rear seat 3rd belt tether is behind the plastic panel above you head, on the drivers side. In UK, that is where the 3rd recoil seat belt is fitted, so Why Honda didn't simply put a belt in the roof and a buckle in the middle, defeats me. I collected min on January 15th 2022 Mid range (' Advance"-U.K. Top range 'Advance style") All our paint bar one is chargeable at £750. Privacy glass is an expensive option on all. I paid £29,750 including the red opalescent paint and since then it has gone up just over £1k

I am tossing between this and the Toyota C-HR hybrid. I have driven both cars on long test drives and they both handled well and have great chassis. The HR-V seems to pick up speed faster than the C-HR and I like that it has an physical drive mode button whereas you have to go through the menus to select drive mode on the C-HR. 45 grands is a bit steep for a small SUV, missing out electric driver seat doesn't help. The C-HR Koba hybrid is about 3 grands less but I think the HR-V is a better package overall for the driver and passengers, front and rear. It is also a more practical car, the Magic seats can be really useful at times. It has saved me the day a few times on my Honda Jazz which also has Magic seats. Honda's future in Australia is a bit of a worry to me though. Anyone concerned about this or am I over worried?

Also, overseas model have wireless charging as standard. but it is another story in Australia and it gonna cost u 650 dollars extra to have it. btw it is about the same size as Toyota CHR and only cost 43 grand to have it. don't know why honda is got this car priced so high. another hint. the honda dealer does not offer any discount so the 45k price is firmed and the waiting period is about 6 months minimum. went to a dealer weeks ago and got disappointed so considering Toyota CHR now.

I drove a 2022 Honda HR-V hybrid for my road trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone National Park. I drove over 2100 miles and I average 32MPG for my trip. What I like: camping mode works like wonder when I sleep in it in camping ground when temperature was around 30 degree. It was comfortable to sleep inside while the engine is keeping the temperature around 75 degree. Well equipment with technology: lane centering, blind spot monitor, power seat for both driver and passenger seats, moon roof, Adaptive Cruise Control. What I don’t like: 32MPG is low for a hybrid vehicle. Lane centering is not reliable. Seat is very uncomfortable. It is the worst seat I have tried ever.
