The Chinese cars get a bad wrap but let’s not forget where Kia, Hyundai & Skoda were once upon a time. It’s ironic you raise the payload as a negative. 790kg is substantially more than you get in a Landcruiser 300, Y62Patrol, Prado, Everest or any other direct competitor that I am aware of. In fact, it’s up there with or better than the 1500 full size trucks from the US as well. The payload on the Tank 500 is therefore one of its relative strong points.
@CarExpertAus6 ай бұрын
That's a good point. It's just worth pointing out given it has a 500kg lower towing capacity and it was called out in the Tank 300 review that we didn't mention it. We'll be including this in all of our reviews moving forward where towing is a factor.
@AidanCran6 ай бұрын
For many many years, the 200/300 series could tow 3500kg, so say 10% on towball, that would leave you only 260/300kg payload remaining which is literally nothing for what most would say is the best and biggest tourer. This 790kg payload is probably the biggest when comparing similar type of cars (not utes)

Cars and other auto gumtrees are full of ones well into the six figures km wise with 10-15 years on the road working for tradies. As long as the electronics hold up better on these fancier models, it's win win car brand for aussies. It's not like the japanese/euros or yank brands are helping our economy , frankly less than the Chinese given they take home a lot more margin from our market and don't build here anymore., Brand loyalty for anything but brass tacks practical reasons like reliability is folly.

On the tailgate thing, I understand the issue of needing a tailgate's width behind the car to open it. But is it really much more than a lift tailgate where you need a tailgate's height behind the car? Plus with a lifted tailgate there can be problems with low ceilings, e.g. a multi-story car park. And with a swing tailgate you can partially open it, which is less of an option with a lift tailgate. Not sure. I've only ever had hatchbacks.

I like the tank 500 in terms of luxury definitely more luxurious than the new Prado the engine is a V6 unlike the Prado 4 cylinders + tank 500 cheaper than the Prado, but what actually stops me is the availability of the spare parts when I need it in future would be available?
@HamroGhar-l9h6 ай бұрын
Of course not and resale value is very low
@mohammeds54586 ай бұрын
Why do I need to care about resale value? If you purchase a vehicle, you buy it for yourself, not the next user. I didn't say the tank is better than the Prado. My point is that you get what you pay for.

Did I see "Drift" mode in the advanced off road settings? I think that needs to be tested :D

I am a little confused as none of the other manufacturers seem to mention a payload capacity. Have seen this with LDV, GWM cars. Keen to know why? Does it mean these are poor or honest?

I believe the rear number plate is sticking out as much so that it can be visible at an angle and not obscured by the spare tyre.

As someone that doesn't know all that much about the specifics of cars and the engineering, what determines that the payload would be lower or higher? Why are the latest GWM models lacking the payload of the others?

Any information about the PHEV version of the GWM Tank 500 and whether this will be coming to Australia?

With the rear swing door, you also gotta account for towing aswell as a mate has a prado but he extened his towhitch/drawbar setup so he can open the door fully

The Asian market definitely loves chrome. I think this would look pretty good in white and all the chrome blacked out including the rims.

The new Alpha I test drive the other day had a "one Button" option to switch off all driver monitoring. Not sure if this is an update and available on the Tank 500 as well?

Why do you test with tiny coffee cup and massive water bottles

The GWM Tank brand has always had a good reputation in China, especially tank 300, which has achieved great success in China. The interior design of tank500 is great. But in terms of appearance, I personally hate the huge chrome grille frame on the front face. In addition, I can tolerate the ugly new logo of this brand, but I can’t stand the fact that it makes the logo on the front face so large, which is completely wrong and fails in proportion. Other performances are pretty good.

@@NoOne-qr8yf When it comes to Chinese cars, and other products made in China, everyone outside of China seems to have no trouble judging them as low-quality, cheap junk. This kind of conclusion, without any actual testing, only based on online videos and prejudice against China in the past decade or so, seems even more cheap. I don't care at all about the opinions and views of other foreigners. In addition, if the current cars made in China are really rubbish, why are Europe and the United States so nervous that promoting Chinese cars on TV and the Internet all day long will lead to the bankruptcy of their automobile industry, and even raise tariffs to restrict them? Are they fools?
