@yummyhershey5902
@yummyhershey5902 5 жыл бұрын
Jorge Ituarte and those statistics you have on electric cars are flat it wrong according to current estimates: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIPLpZyGmsuJsK8 This video covers both CO2 emissions and the effects of mining rare metals from the earth. Electric cars are more environmentally friendly. And lithium isn’t even the primary material used in lithium ion batteries for Teslas. They’re more worried about cobalt, but even Tesla has been cutting down on its usage of rare metals in its battery packs, and this can be seen in the Model 3’s ratio of cobalt compared to other materials. And batteries are going to keep getting better and better over the years as breakthroughs keep getting discovered and they become more popular. Tesla, nor the EV are going anywhere anytime soon. Even hydrogen cars have their problems, the biggest one being that producing large amounts of hydrogen can be extremely difficult and demanding.

I always enjoy Henry Catchpole's laid back, but informative and totally unbiased reviews. I really like the 8-series' looks. It sounds like a good drive too, but I wish BMW made a bit lighter. A sporty GT coupe shouldn't weigh as much as a full sized Super Saloon like the M5, which it does. Also, being as big as it is, the 8 to be roomier in the back. But that aside, I really like the new 8.

Tech in cars, I could do without most of it! Big part of why I bought an Evora 400 was it seemed to have everything it needed - parking sensors and camera because rear visibility is crap, workable sat-nav, air-con, electric mirrors and heated seats - and no superfluous bits that it doesn't. It has MP3 and Bluetooth audio options, but I've never used it because I realised years ago that I want to focus fully on driving and what is happening around me - even on long motorway journeys its amazing how much more I'm aware of when I'm focused purely on driving as opposed to music or talk radio.

James, I hadn't noticed until you pointed out that frame. I've been driving BMW's since the late '60s and Mustangs since our new '66 convertible. I like them both but I'm getting really disappointed in the direction BMW is taking. I got my invitation to test drive about half a dozen new BMWs in San Francisco a couple of months ago so what the hell... it's on their dime; why not? I drove my '01 330xi down to the Cow Palace and tried out an afternoon's worth of new cars. This 850 is about the same as the others but with a bit more glittery trim. I don't want a $100K video game! They've been drifting away from their "Sports Sedan/Coupe" heritage and more into the mainstream plush, fast, cruisers. I'll keep my E46 3-Series, manual 5-speed, all-wheel drive, straight six. It's quick (not like 350-400 hp but respectable), handles very well, and the 5 speed gives the driver much more immediate control of the performance.

About how much tech I use: a fraction of what most new cars offer. That's partly thanks to the fact that I like oldschool cars more, I drive a 1997 BMW E36 328i Convertible in the summer which I would never exchange for a new 4-series, but I have a company car which is a new VW Passat and I did drive new cars for longer periods of time. What I really use is the navigation and music - those are the two tech things in cars I really can't live without. But these two can be had in any old car, you just need a phone mount, a car charger and a proper head unit + some nice speakers, so you don't exactly need a new car for these. What I don't mind not having but like a lot when I do are the blind spot indicators (especially since newer cars tend to have worse visibility), head-up display, and the practical bits like tire pressure sensors, better headlights making night driving more pleasant (although that can be improved on any car), Android Auto (since I use my phone's navigation anyway, even if the car has built-in navigation), and basically that's it. Most of the tech in new cars is just another thing to go wrong for me, so I rather stick to older, more reliable/easier to fix technology that's still able to fulfill my needs. And of course, so much tech and engineering refinement kinda makes new cars more like robots compared to older cars with more 'soul' in them.
@mauiman52
@mauiman52 5 жыл бұрын
@ModHunter: Totally with you...except I do not need navigation and music either. I do not listen to music when driving and I have Google Maps on my phone. Do not need anything else. Does the nav in a current Audi in the middle of the gauges look fancy? OMG, for sure. Can I live without? Yes. Recently had a BMW 430 as a rental and the entire I drive I was just fiddling and playing around. Together with that horrible steering I must have looked like a drunk driver from the rear. Stopped fiddling when came off onto the emergency lane. Maybe to be able to switch with one single button from sport to comfort for both sound and suspension would be sufficient for me.
@alf279
@alf279 5 жыл бұрын
@@mauiman52 I listen to music only when I do my daily commute in the city, heavy traffic jams and all that nerve-breaking stuff, I need my music in those circumstances. When I drive the E36 with the N/A straight-six and the top down, I don't need any music for sure :) For navigation I use Waze, that's why I love Android Auto. The Passat I've been driving for a little more than a year is very well-equipped, and I remember when I started using it after the previous company car, a not very well-equipped Golf VI, I was also playing around with all of the tech for about a week. It was confusing, even for me as an IT developer. I love cars and I love driving, some of these high-tech gadgets are nice to have but they distract me, and they make me uncomfortable. I feel much better in the old BMW, no stupid notifications, no stupid beeping and chimes without serious reasons, instead a more engaging driving experience and a much superior engine.

I'm tired of tech in cars. Example: my friend has a Mk7 VW GTI SE with all the tech options (automatic emergency braking, radar cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, adaptive shocks, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and start). I have a Mk7 VW Golf Alltrack S with no tech options (I turn the key to start the ignition, have no sunroof, have passive shocks, and no automatic braking or lane keeping or anything. Just ABS, power windows, and traction control because they're standard). His car is a year older than mine and several of his active safety systems are on the fritz at under 40k miles. He regrets getting the sunroof due to its high weight, and we both know the DCC shocks will be quite expensive to replace. He tells me about problems his car has, and I tell him one thing: _"That's why I got the S"._ I got the S because I plan ahead in my car ownership. Most tech goes obsolete or fails much, much faster than the car, and it's idiotic. I specifically sought out an S even though there were almost none on dealer lots and EVERY dealer would sell me an SE for the same price, but I wanted LESS tech. I know I will be happier with my car in the long run the less there is to go wrong with it. *Features today are just headaches tomorrow.*
@MattMK45
@MattMK45 5 жыл бұрын
Matt Clark I totally agree with what you've said there. More tech means more things to go wrong and it's worrying to hear that your mate's car has features that are starting to fail below 40k miles! Cars filled with tech in years to come will just feel reallly outdated too. That's why I bought a Ford Fiesta (2014) as I knew it didn't have too much tech in it but the stuff it does have works rather well (Bluetooth audio, handsfree). Alright, the display screen is a bit dated but otherwise its features should stand the test of time better than the interiors of some of the Fiesta's contemporaries.

Hope the m8 looks better , like the new 3 the headlight looks great ... but as a whole not so , i think the 2 series imo is the best looking bmw right now

Looks like a face lifted 6 series and knowing the fact that its a 4WD kinda kills the joy .. I tried to find any reason to justify the 100k price tag but I couldn’t find one .. i guess its their way of making it rare on the streets and to hold its value .

will this car eventually get a 6 cylinder petrol engine?

Complete waste of money. Price will drop like a bomb once you buy it and if anything goes wrong, it will cost an absolute fortune to fix. If you have that kind of money, buy a used entry level McLaren and you would get so much more for your money. Great review as always though Henry!

So true. My friend's been selling BMWs for a few years now; he says the main cars (3-series, 5-series, X3s, and X5s) are quite reliable overall if you don't spec any V8s. But the even-numbered cars, the low-volume cars (4s, 6s, 7s, X4s, X6s, Z4s), and anything with a V8 come in with problems all the times. Depreciation is monstrous on any BMW unless you're getting into something really special that holds its value...inevitably that's only the small lower-production M cars (1M Coupe, M2, M2 Competition, M3/M4 CS or GTS)

Anyone buying a secondhand Maclaren would not be rich enough to dealer service it. Buying a secondhand 8 series will be affordable with reasonable service costs.

Honest review. I don't like the way sports cars are going, too much technology which might be okay in an Ipad or phablet but is not necessary in a sports car. Consider the e46, e92 M3 or 997, technology assisting the experience not dulling it.

What a realistic review! What’s crap is crap. No need to make it look good. Especially the comparison with the 3 series. I would give a 100 likes if i could just for that one comparison!

Henry... You have always been a great car guy... I just dont get why you didnt do your homework on this one. The exhaust are actually real. And even your favorite brand Ford pipes fakery into the cabin. Every car manufacturer does it... And we need to get over it and move on... Anyway love the videos and Better luck next time around.

The 6 series has gone through a lot of change from the drivers point of view.. Going from the 640 to the 650i and xi, the car went from a much more nimble road car to a heavier feeling luxury hot rod... Not all bad but the 645 to the 650 are completely different cars. Power levels are obvious from the seat. The 645 would have loved the extra power. Noise levels were reduced very well in the 650 but it lost some "corner" ability with the weight gain.. What sucked about the 650 was in 2013 they hushed the exhaust note down.. The 2012 is easily the nicest sounding member of the lineup IMHO.. Throaty, rippy and a nice pop on upshifts..(also 8 speed auto) . The i8? is a unique feeling BMW and very similar to the C4 Alfa with a far more civil feel and sound. (C4 is a blast to drive) Been very fortunate to have all these cars in the stable.. Looking forward to the 8 series.. Technology? bluetooth music is nice from Prime.. the rest? meh.... Google does a far better job of navigating
