A mother and father share their story of losing their 21-year-old son to carfentanil poisoning. Blain Padgett was an accomplished Rice University football player who turned to a former teammate for a painkiller while recovering from a shoulder injury.
Naloxone, the active ingredient in 4mg Narcan and higher dose 8mg Kloxxado, along with many generic versions, can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available for free. Google it.

My son, Nicholas Joseph Bell, died on September 24, 2021 when he took a pill he thought was Xanax but it turned out to be fentanyl. He was by himself in a hotel room in Tijuana and we couldn’t help him. Rest in Peace to my baby and to yours 🥲

I just started to watch those videos. And I think it is so sad 😔 that lawmakers do not give LIFE for drug MURDER because that is what it is. 😔 In one country (besides China), I *think* it is Belarus they give life for drug related crimes. I am not sure if it is given when it is proven that the drug dealer OR if it is life when you distribute but at least SOME countries do something good in this area. 😊 People say that harsh crimes is not Good because they "will do it anyway"... Well 😃 give the distributors the death ☠ 💀 penalty and crack down 👇 on distribution until it's ZERO ✌️ selling going on. It is possible. I like the slavic culture because they really *despise* 😃 drugs (they have a conserve point of view (yes ☺️ even in the 20'th century) when it comes to family 👪 🤗 values, versus the "western usa way" where everything "has to be" fee and modern etc.

@@caracolcaracolito6279 personally, I think that making drugs legal would be the better way to end the fentanyl crisis. The poor kid took what he thought was a Xanax but it turned out to be fentanyl. That’s what happens when people deal with the black market. It’s like people getting poisoned during Prohibition. If it was legal to buy pills like Xanax and oxycodone, and it was regulated, it would cut down on people unknowingly taking fent.

I'm a recovering heroin addict and I have seen fentanyl take over 20 of my friends...many of whom were not even opioid addicts. Living here in Washington, about 20 minutes from Seattle, and it's everywhere. Until a politician or city council member loses someone they love to this poison, nothing will be done. If it's not affecting them, it's a back burner issue and it makes my blood boil to find out another friend of mine since childhood died 7 days ago from an accidental poisoning. RIP Blaine, no one deserves to lose their life to this poison.

Dear Richard, Congratulations on giving up the opiates!! Well done. I was on them for burning, nerve pain in my back & neck for 12 months exactly from 2018-2019. Then, out the blue my Dr. suddenly stopped prescribing them. I was Not slowly tapered off of them, as I should been. I went into horrific withdrawal 26 hours after my last pill & the withdrawal was worst for first 30 days & very slightly got a bit easier after each week past the 30 days. Felt like I was in withdrawal for 3 months. After that, I never, ever, wanted to take another opiate pill.💥Congratulations for Toughing it out on your own… you were on opiates approximately 30 years… an extraordinarily long time. I’m certain the Withdrawal was Hell… yet, you Persevered & did it all on your own!! I’m very happy for you. You’re a great example of dogged determination & perseverance. Very best wishes for a healthy, happy 2024. You’re a great example to others! God Bless You. 🙏🇨🇦

So sad and tragic, how he was senselessly taken, way before his time. The heartbreak and frustration from Blain's Daddy and the grief from his Mom is gut wrenching. I didn't know much about Fentanyl until yesterday after a long discussion with a friend who is an anesthesiologist. It's awful that we live in a world where you can take a few opiates or benzodiazepines and then end up being poisoned to death by Fentanyl. In the early 2000s, while I was in college, some of my fraternity brothers used to have Xanax parties. Not all of us would participate but I did. I know that's irresponsible and I'm embarrassed for being such a fool. To make matters worse, we had no idea where the Xanax came from. We could have all died in these times. I'm so sorry for the loss of this promising young man. Prayers and well-wishes to his family.

This hit way too close to home for this Tyler County/SETX Mom & grandmother. Blaine’s story is so tragic and heartbreaking. Another senseless death of an obviously smart & talented young adult. Wake up America!! This deadly epidemic needs to be shouted from the rooftops, talked about in school, church, home and yes, on the news! Then repeat! People need to be aware and educated, our border needs to be secured and our leaders need to step up and do MORE to stop these horrific deaths. Blaine’s story will make a difference; it’s that powerful. Thank you both so much for making this video. It hit me hard. God Bless your family and I’m so terribly sorry for y’all’s loss. ❤

Sir, your message isn’t small at all. It’s enormous & it will make a difference. I am sick to my stomach for the loss that you & your family have suffered. You are right about the need for it to be on the news & being made a public service announcement. We can shut our country down because of Covid, but nothing is being done about this crisis. It’s absolutely disgusting. I am sorry. RIP Blaine. 🙏

I just don’t understand it. Don’t the cartels want to keep making money? Losing customers is losing money. Maybe they just don’t care or maybe it is intentional. I know 2 people who have passed from fake pills. They were both over the age of 50.

What a lovely looking family you have and to lose one of them, your firstborn is so awful and nobody can put them selves in your shoes unless they have gone through it. It is such a senseless death and from a certain perspective not his fault bc he no doubt thought he was taking an oxy or percocet and here they were disguised and actually fentanyl. Blaine seemed like a great guy and I know the struggle it will be without him.

My mother was put on fendynal in her last months of living back in 2010. We had never even heard of the drug prior to that but she was on the patches and we had to be taught how to put them on her by the vna nurse! Always had to wear gloves and had to take it off within a certain number of hours! We thought, wow this must be some powerful medicine, so i can imagine somebody taking it that doesnt really need it! Sympathey to the families of loved ones that lost those close to them from this powerful med. God bless!!

This is a very sad and scary story. Innocent kids dying, because of laced drugs! My heart goes out to this entire family. Iam so sorry, Blain seemed like a wonderful son, man, human being. When I first started watching this I was listening to the Dad talk about him and his son being best friends. I have that with my son also. They were both born in the same year. It’s an awesome testimony of what a truly great father you are. My son struggles with his own issues, but he knows I have his back. Same as you did Dad. This story breaks my heart. 😢💔

Very refreshing to see a parent calling out the media, why aren't these cases all over the media, how is it possible to shut the world down for COVID, and for 2 years that was all the main stream media talked about...... Where is the help for American teens, it's disgraceful, someone needs to do something and quickly.

I feel dearly that his loss will forever scar this world deep! I am so very sorry for your family’s loss! Thank you for sharing to your story about your son! Even tho I am sure it was deeply painful to do so…it was the best thing you could’ve done…share his story to as many people as you can! And hopefully it’ll help another person out or bring awareness to other people or athletes etc! Your son is a perfect example of the what a woman would call the ‘Perfect Man’! I truly pray that your family finds peace and happiness! I will pray for your family!❤
