A few steps away from perfection, this system offers many different ways to interact with the Carplay interface! If they offered Wireless, used the whole screen for Carplay and fixed the responsiveness of the steering wheel controller, this would be the best Carplay integration available.

Excellent! This helped me a lot. Love the back button feature to bring up google maps and media. I have no issues with the real estate size in CarPlay, but like you said, it would be nice to have google maps in the center screen. Great job, Mercedes.

After following your very good instructions and reviewing other online postings my iPhone apps didn't match what was on the MB screen. What I ended up doing was deleting the apps that I needed from the iPhone and then installing new apps on the iPhone. Now the apps that I need are on the iPhone and the MB screen.

The lack of full screen support is such a backwards step. iOS12 and below can provide turn directions if the driver display asks for it. iOS13 can provide maps to two displays at the same time. The lack of wireless now audi and bmw have it is unforgivable in a brand new design of infotainment

@@CarTechConnect I think it's a bit odd almost no OEM has implemented the driver display turn directions apart from I think Renault on the very latest Clio. Perhaps they were all waiting for iOS13 and the duel maps. Oh well maybe in another two years someone might have implemented it. I think the real problem is OEMs not really wanting to relinquish so much of the in car experience to silicon valley but I think that ship has sailed ...

Apparently there's a limitation on the screen resolution by apple. Not Mercedes fault. The output resolution isn't enough to fill the higher resolution of the MBUX screens. Apparently.

@SDav21 it is mercedes fault, because they refuse to interact with iOS or Car Play to share the air-conditioning temperature and the home button, look on the sides, on the left you have home button and temperature and right side temperature, it doesn't go beyond this, full screen will NEVER ever happen on those MBUXes because unlike higher mercedes models that show temperature on the A/C units, on cheap A class and such it shows only on the MBUX itself hence why so much estate is loss... sorry to break any dream but full screen won't happen just because of that stupid temperature nobody even cares to see in the first place :(

I do not see navigation arrows on dashboard since I started to use iPhone. Android Auto would show those arrows for google maps.

I think the most annoying part of this is the fact that you have a wireless charging pad next to the place you have to plug the cable in anyways. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Can you not use the USB ports in the armrest for CarPlay? Would make more sense to then have the wireless pad for a passenger if needed.

I miss this function as well. On my previous car, a Volvo, it had the forward and rewind buttons. That was very practical.

Have you tied using USBC to lighting port? I’m using one from Apple and it doesn’t work always. Sometimes work.

Jack Zhang I have only used this system with the adapter mb provided. I know Carplay is not nice to some brands of wires, it has to be able to provide very large amounts of data quickly otherwise Carplay will run into issues. Are you using an apple made usbc to lighting?

@@CarTechConnect Thank you for your reply! Yes I have tried all the cables I have. Original from Apple, Anker, Ugreen. All are MFI certified. I have also tried using the dongle provided by MB. When its not working, no matter which cable you plug in, it will not work. and when its working, no matter which cable you switch, it will continue working flawlessly. :( The only solution I found is when its not working, usually the first time you plug in the cable after starting your car, you have to turn off the console using the button beside the touch pad, then on again. This will work.

My new GLB has Apple play with the same limitation. The Apple play fills in only part of the screen. What a waste of real estate. I hope they fix that.

Apparently it's because of Apple's limitation on screen resolution and not Mercedes fault. So Apple will need to update apple Car Play themselves.

@@SDav21 not true I have a 2020 BMW X5 and Apple CarPlay is on the full wide screen. And on my 2020 Mercedes cla 250 it’s only in 4:2 aspect ratio... so seems to be on Mercedes side the issue

@@SDav21 Nope. On the Audi's with the larger screens (ie Q7 & Q8), CarPlay uses the whole glorious screen real estate. It's MB, not Apple.

In your presentation is the Multimedia Package included and does that map, not the Carplay map, shown on the center screen? If the Multimedia Package is not included in your example, it appears Mercedes then provides their own navigation on the center screen? And if the Multimedia Package is included, is Carplay still available, and would the image on the center screen be different?

Bavarian Brewery in the USA the gle350 and up come with built in navigation as standard. You can select the “technology pkg” and then you get upgraded nav with augmented video for directions and a heads up display 👍. And yes you can display either the Benz built in Nav or Carplay map on the center screen

There's no way and it sucks! I also have an 2020 E-Class and it does have the full screen feature which looks awesome compared to the GLE. I stopped using CarPlay because of this reason and many others (lagging, CarPlay port too difficult to access without splitting the cable on the long-run, etc...)

Great question! CarPlay is coming straight from your iPhone, there is no way for it to function without having the car connected to your phone. There is no way to "download CarPlay" to the car and have it run without your phone. Thank you for watching!

Yes your E Class is still using Command whereas this is MBUX. Apparently apple has limitations on the resolution which is why the new MBUX system can not go full screen yet.
