Rule of thumb: A salesman is NOT your friend, they're not there to make friends or give anyone a deal, they're there to sell you a car and make money, period

As a salesman, yes I am there to sell and make money. That really is my only goal. Thankfully my dealership is very transparent and does not add on and really is just there to help people find cars. I like it because it I can stick with my morals. That being said I’ve made a lot of friends selling cars, many people I’ve sold cars too I’ve shared common interests and have met up with outside of work.

I can't believe dealerships are still trying to scam people into filling their tires with nitrogen. Unless your car is a super car with 1200 horsepower or more, you don't need nitrogen filled tires. Plus the air consists of 78% of nitrogen, I don't think not putting in the remaining 12%, will hurt your tires. Pure rip off

Bought a jeep once. I wasnt chomping at the bit and told them I was going home to the local dealership. The sales manager came out. Asked. What can I do to sell it? I said lower the price? He took a 1000 off and fired a paper in front of me to sign. I signed it thinking I did alright. Then, in the accountants office they added all these charges, nitrogen in the tires? Washing the car when it came off the ship to get the salt off. I can't remember the others? I had signed and thought at the time I had no way out and I am still not sure I did... Learned lesson. Don't sign until everything is up front and if it's not to your liking walk.. The salesman comes in as your best friend and then you never see him again after the deal. One just needs to be careful. Anyhow very valuable information, easy to understand and follow.

Hi Shari, great video on how to save money. In the past 3 decades, I always bought pre-owned or demo vehicles which I was able to save enormous amount of money BUT the most amount of money I saved was by buying the right brand either earlier Hondas and most recent Toyotas. The key is to buy a car that will hold great value even after 5-8 years of ownership. Between my wife and I we keep cars close to a decade but when we purchased them these vehicles were few years old to begin with but we buy well maintained/dealer replacement parts on cars which we know we going to reap the benefits in long term. I am finding these dealer incentives and manufacture incentives are mostly on vehicles that don’t hold good resale value. It is unfortunate that auto industry have poor reputation of taking advantage of people BUT I truly believe that real estate agent are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to taking advantage of people. There are far more honest car dealers and honest car sales person than crooked real estate agents. Real estate agents a pure crooks maybe not at all but many of them.

Totally agree with going with reliable car brands. Brands like Toyota rarely have strong incentives because of their high demand which is a result of their reputation and quality. Hopefully with enough educating and advocating one day we can argue which industry is best instead of which one is worst!

I usually do the same. I had a 99 escort, drove it for 11 years, a 2011 focus, drove it over 10 years. And a few months ago I was in the market for a used truck. The used prices were so insane it pushed me to a brand new 2021 ranger. I finally got to see what a new vehicle was like, got the warranty, and a very low interest rate. Don’t buy a used car right now.

If you want a new car every 3 years, lease. If you keep a car or truck forever like I do, buy. Personally, I could afford a big fancy car or truck, but I like to buy one and drive it til it falls apart. I could’ve bought a big fancy truck, but I just bought a brand new midsize ranger a few months ago. I plan on driving it until it doesn’t drive anymore. I don’t understand leasing. In 5 years I’ll have absolutely no payment. And I’ll have no payment for years and years. To me leasing seems to explain why so many people don’t have $400 in their bank accounts

Hi Shari great and informative video as always, in your opinion when purchasing a new car (honda) do you think its worth it to purchase extended warranty/rust proofing from the dealer? As you know the all new cars now days are all over equiped with so many fancy gadgets that are just meant to fail in a few years. I also wanted to know your opinion on hondas oil dillusion problem with the 1.5L turbo engines.
@carhelpcorner
@carhelpcorner 3 жыл бұрын
I do think there is value in extended warranty plans when purchased for the right price and if you do enough driving to justify the expense. Cars normally develop problems as a result of mileage, so if you drive over 20,000km per year, the extended warranty is good peace of mind. Honda normally prices their warranty plans very aggressively too. I made a video covering all this which you might find helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGW4l2mJZZutn5I As for rust protection, I don't recommend dealer products as they are often overpriced and they rarely stand behind the products. I recommend third party companies that use oil spray applications such as Krown Rust Control. Video on rustproofing coming up!

@@carhelpcorner Thanks I will be looking forward to all the info you have gathered, on a side note I did email Honda Canada asking them about the civic oil dillusion issue and has it been fixed for the 2019-2020 models or even an update involve transmission and engine software changes. The answer was "NO" its the same engine as the 2018-19 which doesnt make sense to me as in the States they have updates for most Civics affected by this but it seems like no one is talking about this in Canada as much. If you like I can forward you the email Honda Canada has sent me regarding this. Many Honda dealers in my area said there has been no issues with oil dillusion or they even heard of from customer complaints.

Doesn't matter how much of a smart ass you sound when negotiating, it all depends on the car you're negotiating on. Do you expect that if you run a business that you NEED to take money out of your own pocket and give it to customers to make it "fair"? I'm a millennial and I hate how everything is an instant scam or rip off just because it doesn't satisfy the individual. A dealership will not give you dealer discounts unless they have to move that specific car quickly or they are very close to their bonus number. I wouldn't call it a scam or a rip off if a dealership won't give me dealership discounts. I'll just tell them to take down my number and call me back when they have better discounts while I shop at other dealerships. Bottom line is, as the buyer, you should know your budget and have a targeted price. If your price is met, then you should be happy with taking that car, whether or not it was a manufacturer's discount or dealership discount. I got a $49k Chevy Bolt for $21k after manufacturer discount and other incentives and rebates, such as Costco membership. I'm pretty certain the dealer did not discount anything from their wallet, but I'm happy with that price. It's not wise to ignore manufacturers and other discounts just because the dealers themselves won't provide a discount, since their discount may be a lot less than what the manufacturer is willing to discount at that moment.

I was with him until he said “if you can’t afford the car payment for 48 months it’s too expensive” like yeah I call bullshit. I’m not rich but I on a monthly average make $700 more than other’s in my area my car is one of the cheapest I could find that was good and reputable (Toyota Corolla) I make $434 monthly payments $60 on insurance (bare minimum required by state law) and spend about $70 on gas in a month which means I’m tipping close to $600 in just basic car costs not including maintenance. I love very frugal own a house in which my house only costs me $682 in mortgage and my case note is at 72 months I think you’ve been dealing with some very privileged individuals to be able to make that statement because I guarantee you 70% off my local population would laugh you out of existence

@Jaysa11
@Jaysa11 3 жыл бұрын
Car Cost Canada nor others will tell you the cost of any vehicles. why would they? why would a dealership tell you the TRUE cost, incentives, rebates, and weaken its negotiation power over buyers. MSRP- dealership price as mentioned in video 30k-28k=2k.. 2k is not the profit of a dealership at all, cant be. With that math, dealership should sell 30 cars every month to cover its fixed cost like rent, hydro, payroll, etc. 10% deal is not really a deal for a buyer. Give the dealership what you are willing to pay. It will say " no I can't come to this price the cost is almost that price" bla bla...at the end of month or year they will call you. Depending on the dealership..some dealerships have good sales some dont..find the dealership that doesn't have much sale so you can negotiate more. My friend bought a 55k telluride for 43k..so when people tell me they got a 5% discount I laugh.

For what reason in name of all that is holy You are counting dealerships money. 3. Car dealer has NO WAY TO MISREPRESENT TRUE COST OF THE CAR by telling you the monthly payment. It CLEARLY STATES COST OF BORROWING AND TOTAL LOAN AMOUNT on all paperwork 4. So the dealer is liar, because consumer doesn't read the bill of sale? 5. Nitrogen filled tires are GREAT. Rust protection in Ontario is quite SMART thing to buy. 6. DEALER WILL NEVER TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN BACK OUT OF THE DEAL!. It says RIGHT ON BILL OF SALE RIGHT WHERE YOU SIGN!!!
