I was very impressed with the young man. I am Guyanese and left Guyana many years I recently visited Guyana and saw some missionaries while I was there. I was very pleased with his interpretation of the Guyanese people. He got most of it right. Nice... I like the other videos I saw of him.

There is everyday dialects, slang etc, but English is still official when written or used in a professional environment.

You generally got it right but you're not getting the accent part right but its a good try. I always say its not English we speak here but a dialect of English. That essentially makes us bilingual LOL since we can move between the two easily. We learned standard English at school and its used on our local TV Radio and any official setting but in informal interactions we are more at home in our local dialect.

Gabriel Rodriguez Bro Its my culture he is talking about. We speak English here in Guyana all of us that's what we learn in School and then we have our own local language which is derived from English. Its not two languages but a continuum kind of like a spectrum with English on one end and our Local Guyanese speech on the other. Most Foreigners cant understand most of it but if they stick around they usually begin to understand it.
@Gab8riel
@Gab8riel 9 жыл бұрын
Christopher Ross I didn't say they are two different languages. I said Portuguese and Spanish are considered two different languages even though I find them to be more similar. If Portugal and Spain weren't different countries, Portuguese would just be another Spanish dialect like Catalan
@christopherross727
@christopherross727 9 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Rodriguez Quite agreed I say the very thing. Its the same with the languages descended from old Norse: Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Icelandic which is basically Norwegian. Speakers of those languages can communicate with one another quite easily.

Lot of friends from the Caribbean. Love love love the accents, esp Jamaican and Trinidadian. I bond well with Jamaicans for their philosophical and poetic way of speakin. Full of funny sayings. Spiritually evolved. Jamaicans in particular are silver tongued story tellers. I'm Irish, the way you say "boy" with a Caribbean accent ie "bye" is the way the Irish say it too. I like how Jamaican say it more bwoy. Here's one for ya "mi cum here fi drink milk, mi nah come here fi count cow". Awoah!

this actually a really good understanding of Caribbean accents. To be honest, many caribbean islands use the same dialect. Meeting other people from the Caribbean, I myself find it hard to understand them. It has never taken me long to get the hang of it though.

I don't like how at the end he felt perhaps his way of speaking was superior, English isn't representative of Jesus in anyway. In fact many English speakers in London were persecuted for trying to practice English because it was deemed a dirty language. Be careful of superiority complexes.

it really depends on the Caribbean island. bajans are way more understandable than Jamaicans. also it depends on how educated they are. A well spoken bajan sounds something like rihanna and that is easy to understand.

Nicholas John I'm half bajan and i know what a well spoken bajan sounds like. At private school the people sounded like rihanna. yes i can understand local bajans but they still don't speak proper, they speak broken english eg "wu dat dere" in stead of "whats that there", or "gu true so" instead of "go through there" or "pelt dee ting" instead of "throw the thing". do you see what i'm saying now.

He could just do a mission in the deep South of the US and be lost then because people there also ask questions with statements and combine words and chop off words. Everyone in the US dosent speak with a white Utah accent and dialect. When Black Amerricans speak with different grammar and pronunciations and slangs it considered "ignorant" and "ghetto" but loved when Caribbean people do it, the hypocrisy of America and them that follow!
