Dr. Bernardo Kastrup returns to the mind meld!
@bernardokastrup is the executive director of Essentia Foundation. His work leads the modern renaissance of metaphysical idealism, the notion that reality is essentially mental.
Bernardo holds two Ph.Ds, one in philosophy (ontology, philosophy of mind) and another in computer engineering.
He's the author of several books including Science Ideated, Why Materialism Is Baloney, and Decoding Jung's Metaphysics, which features prominently in this mind meld.
In this one, we muse about the philosophy of Carl Jung, synchronicity, archetypes and why Bernardo believes Jung was clearly an idealist.
We also riff on the high strangeness and the UFO / UAP phenomenon and why it's so intriguing, yet troubling.

2:19 Me too. I had a spiritual awakening in Albania and I followed the call to a new job and life in Myanmar. At first my ego resisted it. Now more and more I am in flow and connected and two weeks ago I realized my Daimon was revealing itself to me. Both in real life glimpses and dream images and synchronicity. I don't question it because like you I have enough hours of research with people like Bernardo, Jung, Ian Stephenson etc to go with the flow. Now my KZbin channel on life in Myanmar is taking off. Because I do it as a work of spiritual practice. Like Bernardo I see my work not as about me and my Ego but about telling stories for Myanmar and bringing light and joy. And the reverb is growing every day. I just follow the path. Soon I will give up my day job and just follow this journey. I no longer worry. I trust that I am where I need to be, doing what I need to do. The universe working thorough me. An Aunty Myanmar KZbinr. How amazing this journey of life is and I know that we are on the right path with Bernardo and the likes of yourself. Blessings from Myanmar Miss Liza

I feel compelled to share with you Michael and hopefully it extends to Dr. Kastrup, I listened to both mind melds with Bernardo twice over and I was so overwhelmed by the lingo and academia type references that are way beyond my understanding, right now at least. I googled Kastrup, his work, the definitons of analytical idealism, trying to understand it all and I was pleasantly surprised to find a website called Essentia that shares free videos and information explaining his theories. I am grateful to both of you for the free knowledge you share with the world! I very much struggle with articulating and just with words in general... im a more visual and intuition based human. So having Kastrup develop a cite that provides free content to understand these theories is a great gift to people with access to internet. Thank you!

OK… I wasn’t going to share about this synchronicity experience, but then there was all this about the roses 🤣🌹💎 A couple years ago, it was August 8, Lions gate energy portal. I went for a day trip to Dallas with my boyfriend, and when we took off that morning, I was thinking about rose quartz and its metaphysical healing properties. I did a walking meditation in Dallas, barefoot; when I arrived back to the location my boyfriend was at, I walked around the yard, and underneath a tuft of grass there was a 3 sided pyramidal polished, rose quartz

I would not go that far, but yeah... he is good! :) What is most amazing in the current world, that is also referencing a lot from Jacques Vallee, Jung, Joseph Campbell or even fairy tales (Janet Bord had a good book about it: "Fairies - real encounters with little people" (with definitely an "UFO" connection there). And going even deeper, you can find similaries with the research from Peter Fenwick, or Pim van Lommel or if you want to push the envelope a bit: Ian Stevenson or go completely towards Donald Hoffman. And a lot also can be related in modern quantum physic, and simulation theory. At the end, it all starting to make sense, and in a way may be connected with stories from Vallee and others. And you always have stories about people being taken to a different realms, classic folklore legends about various entities (also ones including lost time). So there is always something common there, you just have to look at the more data, not just an "UFO", or "Fairies", or "Angels" or other old legends/myths. And that is not even touching issue of shamanism, ayauasca/psilocybin/dmt and so on. So whatever is happening, some kind of controling/influencing mechanism that can display itself under various objects/entities (or whatever you want to call it) - and it is projecting itself in many different variations, including one based on your believes, uprising, growing up, or global technogical level and so on, incuding being there when we die (especially when considering Fenwick's research or even observations from Vallee). Not in every case of course, but often enough. Especially if you have been working in a hospital, or hospice for a while and partly you are familiar with those stories. All of that in a little bit points to... virtualization/simulation (or some other "reality" out there, definitely beyond our physical bodies).

You are mixing wisdom with intelligence. Most intelligent? Really? Intelligent? Definitely. Full of wisdom? You bet. The same way in which the Shaolin Master Shi Heng Yi is. But most intelligent? That's a full exaggeration right there, disregarding work of other people, especially in academia, experts from many different subjects => and probably even Bernardo wouldn't like to say it about himself.

For Bernardo: Ok, you like synchronicities? Here goes: The Books that Came Out of Nowhere I was just walking through the Barnes & Noble in Marina Del Rey in 1995 when something caught my eye. The colors of the rainbow intensely jumped out at me from the shelf. I walked closer and realized that a series of books by Peter McWilliams were all lined up. The titles and summaries told me they were all about self help & I could really use it right then. I immediately felt so strongly drawn to have them so I could read them, but they were out of my price range. I looked at them intensely and told myself in the strongest possible way that I need to read these books! This was the abbreviated version of the full creative visualization process which I had discovered the year before and which had worked perfectly for me. Later that day I was driving back from a gig near Silver Lake when my beeper went off. Yes, that’s all we had back then! My friend Evan was calling me to come bartend at the gallery he was running which was in the block parallel to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The guy who was supposed to be there had bailed and I was pretty exhausted, but I said OK, got myself cleaned up and went to the gallery. I didn’t even have time to check out the show and just ran in the back. I was a total novice but poured drinks and that included actual “colortinis” for television’s “Tom Tomorrow” Snyder who happened to make the show. He was hosting that late night show at the time. He and I traded witty banter and it was a really fun night. The next morning, I woke up and went around the back of the apartment, put in my laundry, walked back to the front and, so help me G-d, the entire set of rainbow-colored books that I had seen & focused intently on having the day before in the book store were lined up in front of my door. Seriously?! Something told me to walk next door to Evan’s place. As I walked in, “You put those books there, didn’t you?” He said “take a seat”. He told me the following: A man had been driving down the street when an image in the front of the gallery had caught his eye. He had gone into the show (with me working in the back), had fallen in love with a few pieces, bought them on the spot, put them in his trunk and he had lifted that set of books out of the car, gave them to Evan and said something had told him to give them to Evan. The following morning when I had walked out to do my laundry, Evan had walked down from next door and put them in front of my door. Who was that man who had given him the books? It was the author himself, Peter McWilliams, and those were his personal set of those very books I had become obsessed with the previous day. The artwork in the front of the gallery that had caught his eye was literally the piece that graced the cover of one of the books in the full collection I had become obsessed with and received the next day. How ‘bout THEM apples?! BTW, Creative Visualization worked for me virtually every time I used it. It sometimes happened instantly, over days, weeks, or, in the case of my appearance on Wheel Of Fortune, it took 2 years for the entire scenario to play out. I’m nothing special and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work for you. The best thing is that nobody can stop you, nobody even needs to know you’re doing it, and no trauma you experienced in your life can stop it from working for you. I’m speaking from experience. I’m now writing a book detailing my exact process and all of my successes with it so other people can experience what can only be called real magic, the true power of Universal Consciousness.. which is YOU!

1:30 _Bernardo discusses the common misconception of assuming that all entities with advanced intelligence perceive the world through an identical cognitive system._ Similarly, don't we often hold a misguided belief about history, presuming that individuals from, let's say, 4000 years ago possessed the same cognitive framework or mental "dashboard" as contemporary humans. This misconception leads us to believe that they comprehended and interpreted reality in the same manner as we do today. An approach that can lead to misunderstanding of ancient writings and archaeological finds.

Synchronicity is like a Mountain. It’s a place you can see from everywhere but maybe never choose to go to. A place where energy accumulates. Many paths lead to the summit. It talks to you in symbols which you must also use to climb it. The Archetypes which we embodie are the pathway to travel to it. Since archetypes always point to a source, the summit. It’s inherit to the archetype to point to something. That’s what the shamans overwhelming use of symbols does for them. It points the way to the soul, to the mandala within. You can’t go there be foot. Only in embodimet we can get there like the current of a river. You walk around and find reflections of the mountain in many places. Archetypes and symbols are probably the same thing in different realms. My opinion…

From my personal experiences during a kundalini awakening in 2016 it became apparent that synchronicities are not rare events as such, they are just the flow of life viewed with awareness. When awareness is obscured, veiled by ignorance, these instances of meaningful coincidence have a profound effect on our psyche when glimpsed. Of the many experiences i witnessed at that time there was a a period for about a week or so where I was just a passenger in this body with no control over the flow of event's. Everything was a synchronicity. Everywhere I went, everything I did, everyone I met was all laid out in front of me like I had no say in it, because..... I didn't. Eventually that experience of complete helplessness faded as I grounded back into the body , so to speak.... the understanding however, was not lost to me.

This metaphor came to me while listening to cave and dash board metaphors you two were sharing about. The physical and mental states we experience as humans are one in the same in the mind of nature similar how, while in a dream we are aware of our metal states as well as the “physical” states in the dream (such as a sunny day or cool grass, growling tiger chasing us)…. When we wake up we realize both the physical and the mental emotional states in said dream were all made by our mind! Holy shit, I think it’s all sinking in for now!😂🤯❤️

Thank you for all the amazing content! I'd suggest to divide the video in sections, it would be easier for people like me who have short periods of time to dedicate to youtube. I aways endup messing the videotimeline going from desktop to mobile and back...

It’s the same time line either way. You really expect someone to divide their work into sections for your convenience? I don’t want to be rude but come on. Maybe you’d also like to tell him how long each section should be to fit your schedule?

I have had a really complex synchronicity. Way more complex than the scarab. I’d love to talk about it with someone interested in it but it’s really difficult to point to all the connections. I can only really get there if the person I’m talking to approaches the subject with curiosity. I knew I was meant to be exactly where I was in the moment when it happened. And I was led there with a newfound intuitive sense connected to my heart. I was following something blindly and then I found myself in the middle of the biggest synchronicity ever. And other smaller synchronicities pointed me in the right directions to get there. It kind of showed me the general direction of where I should align my life to moving forward It has to do with the soul and psychedelics. Part of the synchronicity was something from a mushroom trip I had a year ago was shown to me in real life in the most specific way that there’s no way it was just coincidence. That trip also showed me how to find my intuition and become more aware of it. And it led me to that place. Fucking trippy shit

When he talks about the difference between relational/movement/physical and the absolute/non physical that gives meaning, I see where the Eastern philosophies/religions fall short. They ignore the physical world, although that's where we experience and learn. For them only the spiritual is important, but in reality it's not that easy. Life is hard, so unless we "take care of business" we will neither be happy in a temporal sense nor be able to be truly spiritual. So the mind helps us discern what's what and shows us what to focus on.

When I saw a podcast, I began to understand how synchronicity might function in the universe. Apparently Wolfgang Polly and Carl Jung. We're trying to organize events that did not happen by classical causality on the vertical axis and on the horizontal axis for events caused by causality. Mental events or psychic events organize by similarity. Like nonpolar molecules aggregate together and polar molecules are excluded in a solution. This model for me worked well. 😁

“Our own mind takes care of building the symbolic narrative”. Is that why the phenomena is experienced so much differently by different people? It relays the feeling, and our mind does the rest, filtered through our own experiences?

I just listened to Justin and Zevi for almost 2 hours on Zevi’s channel Seekers of Unity, which investigates all mystical traditions. Head-to-head debate in which the open minded materialist, Dr Sledge, briefly exposes each school of logic and the construct of Reason, offering the possibility that each subjective mystical experience is true because of subjective experience. I would like to hear him discuss the statistical likelihood of the ungrokable, yet obvious prevalence of Consciousness. Totes. ❤✌️✨

Synchronicity is an element of the universe, which makes us perceive an exact moment in our existence. When we experience such coincidences we can recognize that we belong to a whole and equally to an individual located in time-space. The ability to articulate in our memories, moments that we have experienced, to come to the conclusion that at an exact moment there is a synchronicity, depends on having the ability to experience moments within ourselves that are completely independent of presuppositions, or prejudices. Therefore, having the ability to perceive our moments of synchronicities will bring us experiences of deep self-knowledge, so if we want, we can take advantage of these intimate moments that occur to us, with the certainty that in their contexts there will be some important lessons.

The way the Platonic apophatic ties into Eastern mystic concepts like tathagata and neti neti is something of deep importance, in my opinion. Add Wittgenstein to it all and you see the circle completes itself. This loss at the limits of our language are deeply expressed in quantum physics as well. There's a point where even theory itself breaks down. Even Einstein said, "The more success the quantum theory has the sillier it looks."

Could someone point me in the general direction of what he was probably having in mind when he declined to further elaborate on why he thinks, the distinction of mind and physicality will go away till mid century. "Respect for people" as in stories he has been told or rather wanting to spare the listeners the aforementioned ontological shock?

I am consciousness on the level of source where I am one with you and one with every other living organism.. And from the level of source I/we cocreate every experience. That is all there is. That explain syncronicity. And it nicely explain everything else also. I talk about my lived experiences. Also You and I create every now, so syncronisity is created in the now. The mind in nature is in you and me not the other way around. That is the perspective that solve everything. All there is, is consciousness, and consciousness is You. Everything with form are abstractions you (and I) create and project outside of you and me - that is the dashboard.😃🎈🌱

It's interesting that, given BK's concern about descending into a "black hole" viz UAPs at the end of the podcast, I thought he had kinda gone there earlier on in the interview where he speculated about the possibility of UAPs being a signal from not-yet-discovered survivors of a 300 million year old advanced civilization on earth.

You don't take into account that the brain is a translator of data. It would translate "alien" thought projection into human terms. I believe we have a higher aspect to the mind as well as an ordinary aspect. It is our higher mind that would use the brain to translate communication. And though "alien," another intelligence would be resonant

This world is like a book we are reading or a show we are watching or a suit we're wearing. Bernardo is saying this much with the dashboard analogy. We live the world our senses describe to us. It's the world of the dashboard. I am fairly certain that at some point somehow our senses can probably be hijacked or distorted or whatever. Our senses are picking up vibrations and vibrations contain an infinite number of frequencies. Frequency, energy, and vibration are the keys to the universe. -Nikola Tesla
