My step niece is Caucasian, very recently, (5/2020) was stopped for speeding in N.C. Turns out her license was expired. The police gave her, the speeding ticket, and warned her that he could arrest her for driving without a valid license. Since she is Caucasian & was emotional (Crying), he did not arrest her. But allowed her to drive home, with a warning to get her license the next day. I am AfroLatina, and mentioning the story to add awareness to the public, that racism is very much alive, in the year 2020.

A lowdown, dirty Cop came to my home, one freezing cold night, about 4am in the morning, to get my husband to go to the station and pay a traffic ticket. Once inside our home, he took the liberties to go upstairs, where me and my 8 month old daughter was sleeping. I told him that he does not have a warrant and to please go back down stairs! He got angry and told me to wrap up my baby, so that I would go down to the station as well. Mind you, it was about 10 degrees outside! I cried because I knew that he had over stepped his boundaries. I felt totally helpless...I knew that the system would never see my side. This was in 1981 and this is the first time I have shared this. I hope that they de-fund the Police. They are nothing but bullies and killers!
@jochosen39694 жыл бұрын
Wow, Mary Martha I'm sorry you went through this. I had a similar story. About 18 years ago a man showed up at my door around 6:00 a.m and identified himself as a police officer. He wanted me to open my door to verify that I was not the woman he was looking for. I felt very uncomfortable opening my door to him that time of morning. Regardless of the fact that he had on a police uniform, what I saw was a stranger trying to enter into my home at 6:00 a.m. He said that he was looking for the female who previously lived in that apartment. I told him that she was not living in my apartment. He insisted I opened my door, so he could see my face and verify that I was not her. Because I felt uncomfortable, I called the police on him and five cops showed up. One being a female. I then cracked my door open and showed my face and spoke directly to her. I learned that the woman they were looking for was white. Clearly they could look at me and see that I was not that woman. They all left and I filed a complaint against the lone officer who came at 6:00 a.m. to my home. I was also told by one of the officers at the station that that particular officer should not have come to my home that time of the morning. They told me to file a complaint and that they would follow up on it. I would never open my door to a stranger and I certainly would not have opened it up to someone wearing a police uniform at 6:00 a.m. What if he was not a real officer and had an ulterior motive. I would have regretted it.

Though i can speak radical and think profound often at times, in this particular situation I'm sympathetic to Carla's past traumatic experience of once being arrested, not only because she's a woman but also she's one of the most humble and pleasant beings we've seen in public view. I was touched simply hearing her say she traditionally told her frightening story of arrest in "a humorous perspective ... and here we are consciously listening while still possessing enough humanity to understand this woman gets through her days in speaking about it in a more suppressed way. A very common traumatic experience in which black people lived through for over 400 years. Malcolm X advised us to tell our oppressors whats on our mind, and to let them know if they don't change how they think about us and or how they treat us, then for sure things won't work out in their favor. "If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31 (KJV)

Thank you for sharing. Ppl react differently to various life traumas as far back (yes to) childhood. Cops have no psychological training in these areas that are trigger points. Yet they capitalize on hoping one has. Then they call it..resisting. This can be brought on by verbal (cop agitating the situation, even as to be yelling. How the hell can you understand someone in your face?) or physically. Seriously, you think someone is suppose to say calm. Depending on the person, their body is internalizing it all. Check to see what the criteria of length of time required to become a cop. It's ridiculous. Then see how long it takes to become lesser responsibility for minor jobs like a hairdresser.

I am a 63 y/o white woman, born and raised in central Va in a small rural town. I was not raised that black lives matter. I was raised that ALL lives matter, which is how I did my best to raise my child, not through words, but through example. That something like this could happen in 1996 in DC is outside of the scope of anything -- part of it is, here was a robo cop who has very little power in life -- 5 cop cars responding to an expired license during an emergency situation is ridiculous -- I worked in the law for almost 30 years -- In Va., driving on an expired license is simply a matter of a ticket and calling someone to come pick you up, and then when you get your license renewed, you pay the fines and the court usually dismisses the charge completely -- it's a matter of paperwork. Two of our dearest friends are black, but a long time ago they ceased being black and I ceased being white and we are just "friends" who care a lot about each other. As a white woman, these are the type of stories that need to be made public -- in a calm manner -- Maya Angelou said: when you know better, you do better -- how can a white public insist that its policing agencies do better, when we're not aware of instances as simple as this -- as opposed to a black suspected criminal -- last year at a public memorial day community picnic in a public park, at the other end of the park were literally "gang bangers" -- it's how "they" described themselves -- they began shooting at one another, and into the crowd at the picnic, and a little 9 y/o girl was shot and killed -- she was black, the suspects were black. And so what did the "white" community see -- "another black on black crime" because when the suspects were finally apprehended, they were making noise about police brutality, which the arrest was on video, and it was pretty much "by the book" -- but nobody from any community -- I live in a very diverse city now -- cared how "these people" were treated, because they murdered that little girl in cold blood as she was running through the bullets to get to her mother, who was also running through the bullets to get to her -- I promise you, had the suspects been white, they still would have been reviled -- I was talking to my black friends about this -- I hate using that term, because they're literally my dear friends, but we can speak openly about everything with each other -- and they made the point that, you can have 20,000 black members of the community who work hard, raise their families, etc. but then you have 10 black criminals such as the shoot-out suspects, and -- these are their words: it taints the whole race -- and it's not limited to only black people -- we have a large middle eastern community, and hispanic communities -- they get it, too -- as a white woman throughout my life, I've been subject to racism from black people -- this is 2020; this has to stop -- the older I get, with age comes wisdom, about the only thing good about getting older! -- and as I get older, every day it becomes more clear to me, we are all God's people -- we ALL want the same things from life -- food, shelter, happiness for our children, fulfiling careers, freedom to worship whomever and however we choose without imposing our beliefs on others and theirs on us, unless we are asked or do ask -- I am hopeful -- thank you for your time, thank you to Carla for sharing her story -- I hpoe and pray this movement forward doesn't stop, but that it is the first steps in achieving change. I don't know how you guys feel about this, but it honestly kind of disgusts me, all these companies "standing with you" -- where were they the week before this all happened -- I'm so sorry Mr. Floyd lost his life in the manner he did, but his death was surely not in vain -- Patricia

Karen it happened to me. You never get over it. It's is very traumatic. Those feelings will always stay with you. I trust no one that has any connection to the cops. I was devastated to the point I couldn't believe why I was being arrested . I shouldn't of never been arrested in the first thing. I done nothing wrong. But it saltays with you. I'm 64 years old and I never been in any trouble. But like I said it sticks with you. I'm so sorry you went through the same horrible situation. Now I don't go out much feel safer at home. It destroyed me.

Thank goodness she came out of it with her life, but even when they don't take your life they give you PTSD. Sometimes you don't even know it until your in a situation that forces you to remember. Then your like "Oh, that happened I actually didn't get over it, I'm not ok" I had a police encounter in high school and everytime I come back to it, it feels way worse than it did even at the time, cuz anything could have happened to me and my family wouldn't know the truth.

In my early 20s i was being harassed by a police officer. I was working full time and worked diff shifts. I was followed night and day, stopped for fabricated reasons and always let go. But one of those nights he stopped me. Yelling at me to put my hands up then getting out of car then he tbrew me dont face first. I was yelling at him at this point. Mind u it was at night and farm country. Nothing around but Amish Farms. He had me lay tbere which felt like eternity then from his car tells me i can go. This was in PA. Ive hated The police till i moved to AZ. I have gotten to know really good police officers here. I agree there are many bad Cops but there are also good ones.

Do I have to register or affiliate with a party before I vote in the primary? No. A registered voter is not required to pre-register or take any steps towards affiliating themselves with a party before voting in a party’s primary election. (§162.003) Additionally, when a person registers to vote in Texas, they do not register with any kind of party affiliation.
