Omg wow, thanks for this one. I actually love and play all these but the Frampton tune. I was 14 in 1976 freshman in high school and all this music was so important to me. I forgot just how much good music came out of this year, Frampton Comes Alive, Presence, Rocks, Wired, Hotel California, Agents of Fortune, Day at The Races, all the music you played. I didn't play all of it on guitar just yet but I was very familiar with and loved it all ...,.. Great episode 👍☮️

Hey Carl, Another awesome video. I'm learning so much from you. Keep it coming. Grand Boulevard is very cool. I picked up plenty of LZ influence, and ACDC 🙂. 1973 was another fabulous year. Here's a few of my favourites. Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh, Wishing Well - Free, Gimme Three Steps - Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rat Bat Blue - Deep Purple, Caroline - Status Quo, Radar Love - Golden Earring, Money - Pink Floyd, take your pick off Billion Dollar Babies, We're an American Band - Grand Funk Railroad, Rock n Roll Hoochie Koo - Rick Derringer, Cradle Rock - Rory Gallagher.

Here are a few more suggestions for a part 2: "Live for the Music" Bad Company; "Gimme Back My Bullets" Lynyrd Skynyrd; "Calling Dr. Love," "Detroit Rock City" & "God of Thunder" Kiss; "Jailbreak" Thin Lizzy; "T.N.T." AC/DC; "Go to Hell" and "Guilty" Alice Cooper; "American Girl" Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers; "It's Only Love" ZZ Top; "The Temples of Syrinx" Rush"' and "Back Street Kids" & "All Moving Parts (Stand Still)" Black Sabbath ... very underrated album, imo.

The 70's in general was my favorite period for music... Everyone back then had their own identity.. I totally got into the Tom Scholz / Kerry Livgren portion of this video... Interestingly enough Tom Scholz unbeknownst to most is a native of Toledo , Ohio. I remember when I was starting out in 76 on guitar... I was 11 years old... I remember hearing Boston for the first time on my dads stereo.. I was just literally blown away by the guitar sound... I was like "Holy F~~~" What is making that hot ferocious sound! It was a Marshall.. An LP fitted with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the rear and a p90 in the neck.. And Toms bag of tricks... Then Kerry Livgren... That incredible Marshall Amp sound...Still probably my over all fave guitar sound.. The body, The tone... The incredible head room. It's what I've kind of strived for.. Carry on to me epitomizes what a Marshall should sound like. At least in my mind. Again... You nailed this!... Keep'em comin'! ♥

@@CarlBaldassarreMusic That he does! His playing was and is, at least in my opinion (for what that's worth) unlike any of his contemporaries. I purchased Humble Pie's "Humble Pie Performance Rockin' The Fillmore" album when it was released in '71. It was his playing on that album that made me want to play guitar. With all due respect to the other great live albums that are out there, including "Frampton Comes Alive", it's still my all-time favorite album. The only album for me that rivals it is "Humble Pie Performance Rockin' The Fillmore The Complete Recordings", which are the four shows they played at the Fillmore that the original album was culled from that Frampton and Jerry Shirley released back in 2013. 🤣 He is of course, a much better player now than he was back then, but that album has and always will have, a very special place in my heart. Cheers Mr. Baldassarre! MB

What a fantastic year for classic rock driven by songs with guitar laden riffs. Punk as a music genre was born in 1976 but I think these 10 riffs prove that Rock was far from a spent force. Everyone of them is a classic and so identifiable and there were so many more...Emerald by Thin Lizzy and Jailbreak by ACDC are a couple of my faves. As usual Carl you look like you are having so much fun playing these riffs and, you're so cool bro 🤘

@@CarlBaldassarreMusic I don't mind some punk music, I can really resonate with the energy and simplicity but I'm not really an officiando of that genre...I'm more of a Classic Rock fan. It has such a driving guitar riff that just hits you in the face!

You'll have to do another 10 from 1976. Tons of great songs and riffs from that year. Some bands had multiple tunes with great riffs, like Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle", Led Zeppelin's "Achilles Last Stand", "Tea for One", and "Nobody's Fault but Mine" and Boston's "Foreplay/Longtime", though all the songs on that album had great riffs. Other songs with great riffs are "Takin' It To the Streets" by the Doobie Brothers, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC, "Passage to Bangkok" by Rush (the "2112" album had some great riffs in general), "Detroit Rock City" by Kiss, "The Boys are Back in Town" and "Jailbreak" by Thin Lizzy, and "Sara Smile" by Hall and Oates. Oh, and we can't forget the Theme from the TV show "S.W.A.T."! (BTW, did the guy who drove the van ever get out from behind the steering wheel?) You could throw in some ABBA if you wanted. Of course, 1976 also gave us Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight"... On a side note, I find the title of your album "Collinwood Yard" intriguing. I used to take freight trains to Collinwood Yard in Cleveland!

Some of the others so far are sort of obscure but great, which makes it even better. Ok I will finish watching now that I got that off my chest.

Ha! Glad to not disappoint! Believe it or not…that riff is way more fun to play (and more challenging) than it is to listen to. It seems like almost a simple throw away kind of tune, but it’s a very formidable thing to get right. There are lots of components to it!!

This is a great series!..Next up 1977 will perhaps become "leaner pickings" due to the ground swell of Disco and Punk Genres?.. If we can put a live album in the mix,.." The Man on the Silver Mountain" from 1977's Ritchie Blackmores ' Rainbow on Stage's is an absolute Killer Riff!

Ha! Did you check out my 1975 episodes? I dropped in Man on the Silver Mountain (and showed both the studio and live version of the riff). The live version is absolutely insane to play!!!

Love your stuff, I appreciate your work for sure. FYI: The first part of Rebel Rebel seems to be played at the second fret and not slid up like you demonstrated. I watched a bowie live concert and that's the way (Adrian Belew?) played it

These greatest riffs by year are super entertaining! Keep them coming! Carl - when you use the JCM800, is the majority of gain coming from the amp or the La Grange pedal which I see you use in other videos? Sounds great!
@CarlBaldassarreMusic
@CarlBaldassarreMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I bypass the preamp on the Marshall to get straight to the power tubes for that clean crank. Then I hit the input harder with a drive pedal to get the break up I want. For the videos it’s more pedal than amp since I’m running lower master volume. Live, it’s about 50:50.

Fantastic job Carl!..And yes, Rob Shaw, "sure did" step up to the plate. Who could argue with any of those selections. Love your sound/breakdown of Led boots and Aerosmith 'Last Child' with 4 great riffs in a song...I wonder if intro riff for Josie 'Steely Dan" might make the 1977 list?. Arguably the most Bizzare 'Hit song' riff in history?
@CarlBaldassarreMusic

Thanks for noticing! Btw…I forgot to mention that Beck almost never uses a pick! Like everything else, Led Boots has that unique snappy sound owing to his inside out thumb picking. …I’ll refresh on Josie!

Howdy! Just finding you for the first time today. You know your music! I have some great music history. Leave it at that. Ps. Have you ever done a special on The James Gang? Very underated! See if you can figure out where the band Boston got riff for their biggest hit. " More then a Feeling " Yes! James Gang. I know you can figure out the song. Remember Tom Scholtz was a huge fan of Joe Walsh!
