If more Americans with speed like this would play more rugby, I would watch more. Specially with the bubble wrap nfl today.

This man is my inspiration. I'm pretty small, and I can't tackle very well, but I am pretty fast, and I joined my high school 7s team because I saw what Carlin and Perry Baker can do on the field. I ended up scoring the most tries out of any wing in North Carolina this year, and helping my school become the state 7s champions

Run track and develop your speed even more if you are naturally gifted with it. I am 5'8 and back in high school I weighed about 150-155 pounds. I graduated back in 2010 and had no idea about this Carlin Isles guy cause he wasn't around. But my 40 yard dash was like about a 4.6 and my 100m was an 11.3-11.6 range. I never broke the 11 second mark so I can't say I was incredibly fast but I was quick and I know to be anywhere in the 10 second area you have to be wickedly fast and that is something that comes naturally and with good training.

b4ssfunk3d I do run track actually. My top speed on the 40 is a 4.5 and in the 200 my fastest time is a 23.7. I could probably shave a second off of that, but I've been focusing way more on rugby in the past year

The angles that some of these people take to tackle him make no sense.. You know he's ten time faster than you. Approach accordingly.

I agree. They know he will try and go around the outside, why do opposing winger still come infield. Stay outside and reduce the extra space outside.

Look.. if more sprinters played rugby the game would change drastically...10.1 is no joke.. its almost hilarious watching people try and match him for pace... imagine Asafa Powell, or a Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Nester Carter... these are big guys as well....you cant defend against that you guy are just used to fast rugby players running 10.5 max...Chavanga is a monster in terms of speed, no where near as fast as these guys but he is untouchable in full flight.. nothing catches him)

In rugby 7's they have the space to use their pace. In 15's even the fastest guys get shut down. How many times have you seen 11 second 100m wingers get smasher by players the size of Brodie Retalick who have the size and power to put a lean, mean, sprinting machine down and out for the count. Acceleration and speed are important factors for a winger, but track sprinting form and contact sport sprint form are completely different, not to mention the ability to tackle. Track sprinters are so highly strung they injure themselves often enough just trying to squeeze that extra 0.01 out of their 100m time, they can't afford the training time or extra weight that comes with playing rugby. I'm not trying to detract from sprinting gods, just trying to put their skill set in perspective. I myself was a track sprinter who did well in rugby B teams, purely for speed and a natural swerve. I imagine if Usian Bolt had been born in NZ and brought up on rugby he would have been an amazing winger though. [EDIT]Also he's blimin' fast.

i think rugby is going to be the next sport to gain momentum in the USA after soccer has become popular with the MLS, especially since baseball has become less popular. if the usa fully applied themselves to the sport, i think we'd be absolutely dominant since we produce a high quantity of great athletes. but the usa has the american football, basketball, track and field, baseball, etc. we dont have enough athletes to have enough left over for a top-tier rugby side.

Countries like new zealand have had generation after generation of learning rugby, it's basically in their blood. You can't just throw "quality athletes" at the game and expect to dominate. The pacific islanders dominate because they understand the game like the back of their hand.

The angle that you tackle any fast play doesn't matter as much as you guys think it does. His speed and ability to cut defeats the purpose of even trying to tackle him at and angle. There's no other way to stop him unless you over-anticipate him or to improve your own speed.

***** AF has more spectators than all those codes put together and you guys play girls sports
@FurlogTheGiant
@FurlogTheGiant 10 жыл бұрын
***** if you want to know something you could always look it up...ever think of that? When AF was removed from some colleges from around 1905 thru 1920 because too many players were dying, they picked up Rugby in it's place. The big Stanford-Cal game back then was Rugby, not Gridiron. it drew 50,000 spectators. But with some rule changes to AF and the addition of gear those colleges dropped Rugby and went back to the new safer Gridiron. Rugby was an Olympic sport back then and the US is the reigning Gold Medal nation in Rugby. I don't know what nations participated but the US won Gold none-the-less. Thru out the history of rugby (since 1820's) there have been about a dozen on field deaths and about 70 total deaths attributed to rugby injuries. AF (since 1870's), with far fewer participation numbers, has had hundreds of on field deaths and thousands of deaths attributed to it's injuries. An avg. of about 12/year. The sport of American Football has almost been outlawed twice and the third run at it is under way. Is rugby under the threat of being outlawed??? of course not. Rugby is not nearly as dangerous of a game. The vertical nature of AF, the aggressive use of obstruction, the freedom of tackle and mass collision plays makes Gridiron the roughest game on Earth. But it's actually a thinking mans game. Sports like Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, and keep-a-way Rugby are so simple in comparison. Your hatred stems from a massive inferiority complex and a general lack of self esteem. You'll never hear an America bring up rugby...but rugby babies have NFL on the brain.
@dte8329
@dte8329 10 жыл бұрын
***** Two of those are not rugby (AFL and American football). I play rugby, but the reason why American football has pads is because players were literally dying due to the nature of the game. And despite it not being free flowing, it's one of a few sports where literally every player is involved on the field. Most other football codes have guys hanging around out of the play. That's fine, but you're at pretty much a high intensity every time you play American football.
