The 2022 US Open runs from August 23 - September 11 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 142nd time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Thank you @USOpen for posting extended footage like this instead of only two min highlights or locking it up in NBC's vault until obscurity. Tennis of this quality should be shared freely because it brings joy to the fans and showcases these great young talents. What a brilliant performance by both Sinner and Alcaraz, coming after late night five setters in their previous round. Even though it says Alcaraz (W) Sinner (L), tennis was definitely the winner on this night. 20 yrs from now we will look back at this as one of the great matches of all time.

These highlights are gold to us fans depending on them to keep us in the loop. Imo, Sinner gave Carlos the biggest scare during these unprecedented championships. No slight intended for Tiafoe or Ruud. Both fought hard and strong in their matches, but Jannik was able to not only stay with Carlos, he threatened him, and Carlos responded as only a champion can. His skills repertoire is unchallenged right now. He has elements of several champions (male & female). His court artistry and court sense genius and ability to improvise while in awkward situations, his net play, speed of shots (Federer). His never say die grit, tenacity and physicality (Nadal). He possesses Novaks uncanny acrobatic defense and returns. He lobs from anywhere and his unshakeable mental powers (Chris Evert). 100% shows no fear (Monica Seles). Plus a few others. Carlos is a study in the evolution of modern day athletes. Tennis will NEVER be the same again.

Does anybody remember a famous SI article on Carlitos having "The Tiger Woods effect," on tennis. He's bringing in people who never even followed tennis before and his attitude is SO INFECTIOUS! He will make all of tennis much more $$$ for decades ++. I don't think his game's like any of the big 3, just components absorbed into his impervious belief in himself, wanting to take matches on his terms. At current 92.89%, 2023, win pct he's on track to shatter previous top 5, #2 was 88.8%! And for all who remember, that French Open was filthy, Djoker took 16mts+ of toilet breaks, etc. One delay was the booing Djokovic got after finally returning to court, Alcaraz was perplexed and looking at his box asking if it was him they were angry with😡. In order to change momentum after he'd lost the 2nd set and was ahead in the 2nd set already?! To cool down Carlos, Djoker gave him the works in fake delays on a very cool night in Paris, hence the cramps. But, Carlos is too nice, he'd never accuse anyone (even someone w/ a long history of doing it before). He's absolutely beloved by tour players for his unparalleled sportsmanship. He proved more than adequately his fitness or trouble w/ big stage was NO PROBLEM at Wimbledon 2 weeks later?!

A spanish commentator mentioned that in his opinion the match took a turn after Carlos lost the 3rd set and was sitting against the backwall, looked toward his box and muttered something to Ferrero; his coach made a 🤷‍♂️gesture like saying”figure it out yourself”. After that his serve improved as well as his return while Sinner’s serve was not the same.

I am sorry, but the one who gave away was Alcaraz, if he would not have conceeded so much to Sinner, he could have won in 3 straight sets. He had set points on the 2nd. He served to win the 3rd 7-5 and failed in the crucial moments. Despite how much that can affect you mentally, which it did, as you could see on the beginning of the 4th, he managed to recover and win the much. Great game by the 2 of them, but Carlos won, and deservedly so
