At the age of 5, in his native Mexico, he learned to play the violin. At 8, he developed a lifelong love for the guitar. When I was working in a hotel and restaurant in Rochester, NY in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, I got to take a sandwich up to the room where Carlos Santana was staying. He opened the door and was wearing rainbow toe socks! It was a perfect reflection of the times. He could not have been nicer and I will always remember it.
