Took me close to a year before I could climb Guadalupe to Pamutan without stopping. Carlo knows how steep this route is. It's only roughly 7km away from Guadalupe church, but the climb is brutal with 20% ~ 27% gradient at its peak. Before, it would take 4-5hours before we could get to the top, now 45minutes is enough. He's right, go as slow as you can with cadence as low as you can and with gearing as low as your bike can get. Get the skill to balance your bike in the lowest speed possible. Get all these and you will achieve a sustainable riding effort to get you to the top. For reference, I'm running 36T chainring and 11t-50t Cassette. Most importantly, don't just watch videos. Get on your bike as often as you can. #FitnessIsFun

That's a brutal climb! haha I think I've only done it once or twice. I'll need to do it again.

i used to ride 1x... 40T front 11-42 at the back.. nagpeak HRate ko ng 185. so i decided to go back 2x.. understanding gear ratios really help my type of ride and overall performance. dun ko narealize tlga na overrated ang 1x. now im using 38/28 and 11-42. my usual ride is around 17-22% max. which is really not bad for a Tito tuhod..

Nice! I borrowed a bike that is 1x. I like the simplicity of it. Also I think there's a way to get the range even with 1x, but i think it tends to be expensive.

What I did to improve my climbing on the bike is I climb in the big chainring and the 3rd to the last teeth at the back. Had this idea of training from Cruz Control and it worked for me. It also improved my speed in flat sections.

One way to blog up your knee. Find the right GEAR for the hill and pace your self. The right gear and cadence is the one you are comfortable with.
@GOlone9597
@GOlone9597 3 жыл бұрын
@@pacitasoria6238 I can still spin a bit (80-90rpm) the chainring with this gearing at around 5% gradient. At steeper section I just increase the gear and get out of the saddle. I'm more comfortable climbing with this climbing style rather than spinning with the small chainring, where I get out of breath fast and very sore the next day.

@@GOlone9597 hi bossing glad it is working out for you, for me , in all my Years of riding, the most efficient to climb is to spin on a comfortable gear depende sa gradient and langit of the climb. I usually climb hill with 7-8% at 1-2 mi in lenght during my training RIDES and climb 3to4 hill s on a 30 mile ride . Climbing with lower gear is less taking to your leg muscle, and to your cardio vascular system. You may not think so but it is. In order to be good going uphills, ride upgrade, do not buy upgrade. Ride ride ride.

I heard from trainerroad that inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth helps in managing your heart rate! I find it helps (I'm also working on my base/zone 2 rn, as reco'd by Cam Nicholls on yt too haha)

BIgger gears in the back, smaller chainrings in the front. And a slower pace, just sit down and slow down, but keep on spinning.

This was a nice video with lots of great advice. I think I'm at my best climbing when I've got some strength training in my program. Deadlifts, Squats, Lunges, all with and without weights. Oh and kettlebell swings for the posterior chain (muscles along the back of your body). The stronger the muscles are, the less effort it will take to turn the pedals and maintain that low heart rate for a longer time.

Im a person who get easily tense and impatient as well but in cycling especially when we goin to climb i manage to be patience or control myself at all cause no matter how slow and take a deep breath and distract myself of getting tired but somehow i manage to climb w/out exerting a lot of effort...w/out using any heart rate monitor since the HR monitor is expensive so as the garmin....

@carlovillarica
@carlovillarica 3 жыл бұрын
haha that's the right hear ratio! But everyone improves in their own time. Just keep at it. Also 9% gradient is pretty steep. If you can find something less steep to practice on, that might help. Or try it on the flats.
