Classic Magnus alchemy, turning nothing to something.

I watched the end of the game on the chess24 live coverage. Also I had Sesse opened in another tab... I can tell you that from move 70. a5 b5 where Vishy pushed his pawn instead of taking on a5, Magnus had to find the only moves up until 74. b4 Nxc3. Pretty much a sequence of 4 only moves... Also as you mentioned 76. Ne2 was the only winning maneuver. Even more interesting was the fact that after Vishy's mistake on move 70, Sesse had mate in 31 starting with Nd6 I think, then immediately after Carlsen played Ne3 it changed to mate in 21. I remember the people in the chat were quite impressed. Hehe... Anyway... The world champion is world champion for a reason. (43:20) We can always blame the people who lose for making the mistakes they did, but in the end you make mistakes when your opponent forces you to make them. And Carlsen is the best in that regard...

Well ... He has been above 2800 since November 2009 - no one else has -. He has been the world's number 1/highest rated since July 2011, he has defended the WC title 3 times, won the world rapid & blitz chess championship in 2014, 2017 and again in 2018 ... According to chess.com's CAPS system he is THE most "precise" player of all time according to sillicon monsters rated around 3400! In other words: I think he is doing fine! ;O)

@@stefanholbek2449 yeah of course its kind of crazy to say someone is "out of form" despite holding the number one spot and the world champion title without interruption. Still, he set the bar so high (he was once rated 2882, in live ratings even 2889). Nowadays he is "just" the best among equals not dominating - so maybe we´ll finally get the old dominating carlsen back. But let´s wait and see.

I agree with you Stefan. Magnus has nothing to prove, he is king of the hill. Most chessplayers peek around the age of 35 so let us see in 5 to 10 years where he is at and how many that are tailing him. By the way, a good game by both of the players.

I really liked the very cute study @40:26 and I agree that the way Carlsen "asks" questions and keeps pressing and playing, not always even the best moves, but the moves which are hardest to face is a real gift he has. Well deserved win but one can't help feeling a bit sad for Anand though...

I think Peter is hands down the best analyst in the chess world. Compared to other analyst who will find computer moves and then explain the idea behind them, Peter is at a level where he also can talk about the difficuliy from a human standpoint of finding such moves. That is an extremely valuable insight and makes it easier to understand why supergrandmasters don't always make the right computer moves as chess is more about ideas than calculations and that is what makes it so interesting. Thank you for your work Peter!
