The 2023 FIDE World Rapid Championship is a 13-round Swiss tournament, crowning the World Rapid Champion 2023. It is held from the 26th to the 28th of December in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Time control is 15 minutes for the entire game with a 10-second increment beginning from move one.

Magnus has to move rook first because black threatens mate in 2 with qh3 and qg2 mate. By moving rook first instead of forking with the knight Magnus’ bishop will come to the rescue if qh3.

There was a threat of mate in 2 with Qh3 followed by Qg2. He would gain a rook but lose the game :)
