A nicely balanced view on the topic. Thanks for your information! I keep hearing Zionist as a buzzword in many debates over the current conflict so its nice to understand what Zionism actually is as a philosophy.

I’m uncertain about this video’s contents. I’m particularly concerned with the distinction it makes between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. In defending this distinction, anti-Semitism is defined as ‘discrimination against Jewish people.’ However, I think it would be more accurate to define it as ‘discrimination against Jewish people, including the denial of their basic human rights.’ Under this definition, anti-Zionism could reasonably be viewed as a form of anti-Semitism because it challenges the Jewish right to self-determination-a fundamental human right recognized under the Geneva Convention-which is currently realized through the existence of the state of Israel. To clarify, this view isn't solely my own; it is supported by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which states that anti-Zionism may cross into anti-Semitism when it challenges the Jewish right to a national homeland, a right that underpins the existence of the state of Israel. The U.S. Department of State also endorses this view, noting that anti-Semitism can include the rejection of Israel’s right to exist. Scholars such as David Hirsh argue that denying the Jewish right to self-determination, which is often embedded in anti-Zionist positions, can indeed constitute a form of anti-Semitic discrimination. In this light, anti-Zionism may not merely serve as a ‘dog-whistle’ for anti-Semitism; it can represent one type of anti-Semitism in itself.

Good video. I have many questions: In Herzl's book The Jewish State, he mentions "Promised Land" a few times. What did he mean by Promised Land? Promised by who and to whom? Is there any possible non-religious, agnostic/atheistic, secular, scientific interpretation of "Promised Land"? If so, what is it? If not, then as a religious concept, why does the "god" that promises it be believed? In other words, isn't Zionism at its core just a religious concept? If not, then can it be defined without any reference to any "Promised Land"? If so, then why is Herzl so influential as to be considered the father of modern Zionism? Why does he mentioned "Promised Land" in his book Thanks for any clarification.
@joeyclark3995 Жыл бұрын
There is no scientific explanation for the "Promised Land" you know it's a religious term. The Torah, The Bible, & yes even The Qur'an (5:21) all say the Holly Land (Canaan) was promised by god/allah to the children of Israel (the 12 tribes of Israel) it also says in all 3 Holly Books that the Israelites would be scattered throughout all the nations but in the last days they will be gathered together again in the promised land. Atheist obviously will not accept this. So we can take a look at history & find out who owned the land & how did they acquire ownership of the land. There's a long list of landlords over the millennia, but safe to say the land was won & owned by conquest! Whoever won the land got to dictate what happens to the land & who lives on it. This is the way of the Holly Land & it's always been that way. History proves it unequivocally!

@patanthony9286 Why not? Let's read your awesome insight into this. What's going on in Israel is nothing short of an ethnic cleansing. The whole notion of Zionism is rooted in the belief that Jews should have their own land controlled solely by theocratic rules and laws. There are plenty of examples of this all around the world. One that comes to mind is the USA. Others include all of the Commonwealth nation. Divide and conquer will always reign supreme until we all learn as the human race to stop with this mentality. Also, why does Russia want the donbass region so bad?

I think a group of people should be able to form their own community and decide their own laws if they meet certain basic standards like having an appropriate territory to do it on, being able to show a clear popular (rather than elite) desire for such autonomy, a commitment to democratic policy making, a good faith desire to maintain peace with their neighbours. And if the Jewish people, or some large subset of them, meet criteria like these, we should respect their right to create their own state. As for whether it's actually in their interest to do so, I'll leave to them to decide. Also this obviously doesn't justify the way Israel actually went about acquiring the land to build their country on; I would be far more sympathetic to their cause if they had bought some sparsely populated land somewhere and built a brand new country. Given how small their population is, it could probably have been a single city-state.

A Jewish State could be the size of a postage stamp and the Arab/Muslim world would still be outraged. Jews accepted a two-state solution as long as they could re establish their ancient homeland in areas of Palestine where Jews were the majority. According to the grand mufti of Jerusalem at the time, and staunch Nazi Haj Amin al-Husseini…it would violate Islamic law for even one inch of Palestine to be controlled by Jews. In an ideal world, setting up a country with everyone being/thinking the same would be ok. In reality, we have seen when nationalists create these countries They fear their neighbors, dehumanize other groups, extend their borders, and think of themselves as superior beings.

20% (1.8 million) of Israel's population are ARAB MUSLIMS, who enjoy the full rights of Israeli citizenship. They love living in Israel & when asked they say they would never leave & live in an Arab country. They say they have access to freedom, education, varsity, medicare, good wages, houses, cars, & a great quality of life. There is also other religious & cultural groups in Israel such as the Druze, Samaritans, Christians etc. If Zionist Israel is EXCLUSIVE to Jews ONLY then above FACTS debunk that. Israel lets 20,000 Palestinians into Israel everyday to work. They get paid European standard wages. Hamas certainly doesn't provide employment opportunities to their people & NO ARAB countries give the Palestinians work opportunities let alone let them into their country. If this is Zionism it's doing a lot better than a lot of other countries out there.
