Lol I have no idea how he came up with "charity." It comes from the Latin carn (flesh) and levare (to put away), being that carnivals were a celebration and all-out feast before Lent began (when people would then have to abstain from consumption of meat).

Let you know a few trade secrets...every year we had a state fair and they would hire teens from our area to work 'under the table' for a 2 weeks. So we learned the cons. Softball pitch had a hard rubber stop behind the basket and all the softballs were hollowed out. We had a few real softballs for the passerby to try and they would usually stay in the basket, think it's easy and would switch out once they paid. Basketball hoops, they hammered the hoops in so bad, that they were almost egg shaped. Unless you swoosh it, you got no chance. Also they overnflate the balls. On coin toss, plates were polished with used cooking oil from the vendors. Made them so slippery. On player vs player games, like clown balloon pop, whack a mole, etc. Prize would cost us less then 2.00 a piece. So even if we had just 2 ppl playing, we made a profit. But they preferred we ran it with at least 4 ppl. These are a few of the games my friends and I had worked. I'm sure there's others, maybe next year. We want to work the bb gun shoot the star out and see what's up with that.
