The Giufreddi the Giufreddi with the first mouthpiece Was so smoky sounding. Very nice!

That's a hugely deep piece, LaDonna. I don't t think I could play a concert with it - but I do love its effect. :) Good to hear from you! :)

Nice comparison. for me, the Mauriat with the GR64 was the best sounding I think.

Thanks for commenting, Barrerine. I was surprised - but I thought the Mauriat sounded a bit better on this mic than the Giuffredi...Not what I was expecting. :)

Hi Jonathan. Personally, as you know I prefer less bright horns, I prefer almost every mouthpiece the P. Mauriat.

I agree, and it isn't what I was expecting. :) Thanks, Heather - always great to hear from you. :)

I don't think I can hear a $1K difference, or could even tell you what a $1K difference sounds like. The bell on the CB takes some of the edge off using the 64MS and the 63Z**, at least to my ear. I think the CB is a great horn, although I might be used to its sound, as I often do my warm ups with Mr. Giuffredi!

Have you compared the Mauriat titanium copper vs the silver plate or plain brass? What does the titanium copper add to the sound in your opinion?

Emmanuel; Great questions. Unlike some, I don't believe that the finish of a horn makes too much difference. Some difference - obviously. But in a blind test I doubt if even top pro's would be able to consistently tell a difference. This, however, is all personal opinion. :) My friend has this same model (Titanium bell and leadpipe) but in silver-plating. He is rather a power player; he moves a LOT of air through a horn. When he played this model I was amazed; the sound was powerful but still warm. I'm NOT a power player, and I lean towards a bright sound in my mind - but this horn still plays warm. I compare it consistently to a wonderful Andrea Giuffredi CarolBrass horn that I have. I prefer the intonation on the Giuffredi, and as it's a lighter horn I play the Giuffredi more often. But every time I record the two - the P Mauriat sounds better - and this is a pretty common opinion from those who listen. I attribute the warmth and projection to the Titanium/Copper bell and leadpipe. @@JonathanMilam1 Thank you for the detailed reply. So since it is heavier, would the P Mauriat not be ideal for a younger child? I have an 8 year old who plays an amazon pocket trumpet, but is ready for a real instrument. Thank you again!

Possibly so, Emmanuel. The bell would almost certainly be a bit firmer than a light(er) bell - like the Andrea Giuffredi, and likely more resistant to light damage like dents, etc.
