Because she’s a great performer 😎 The performers of her time played every day every night ,honing her skills , no studio razzle dazzle just an immense talent with a piano. ☮️

My favorite Carole King songs are this one and "Up on the Roof," both written with Gerry Goffin. Check out Carole's version of "Up on the Roof" from the album, "Writer," and versions by the Drifters, James Taylor, and the Nylons.

You can tell a lot about the quality of a singer when he/she is accompanied live only by a piano (or acoustic guitar) guitar. Raw vocals are hard to fake. The most talented singers, like Carole King, shine through. That's how I knew in more modern times that Angelina Jordan was great & would be for years to come.

Gerry Goffin was her writing partner and husband for a number of years. They were magic. Her daughter Louise Goffin released a few albums, and she was good. Back in the day, live performers often sounded as good or better than their album versions because they could improvise, change the orchestration, or in this case, sing with only a piano and no other instruments or backup singers. We don't have ANYONE in today's crop of "singers' except perhaps Lady Gaga, Adele, James Taylor, Alicia Keyes, and Pink who can do this.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet but as a longtime fan of Carole King, it was great to hear her sing the theme song for the TV series “Gilmore Girls”; the song is entitled “Where You Lead” and of course, it was written by Carole! (She also had a small role in the series as the new music shop owner in Stars Hollow). I’ve loved Carole’s music as long as I can remember, “Tapestry” being one of my first albums, too!🥰 A few of my friends from our 5th grade class would get together at slumber parties and sing all of these great songs, loudly, lol.. until one of the parents would have to come in and tell us to keep it down, lol!😅 These songs are a huge part of the soundtrack of my life.. ☺️💗📻

Tapestry was so magical to me the moment I placed needle to vinyl. I bought the album very soon after it first hit the store shelves. Carol, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Buffy Saint Marie, Joni Mitchell, were huge influences for me. Using their songs got me my first breaks as what they used to call a lounge singer. Tie dye, love beads and caftans were all attire of choice and never took center stage away from their amazing and insightful lyrics. I have them to thank for a very warm and wonderful decade of my life. 💖

When I was 17, back in the cave man days, almost everyone had her album Tapestry. I must have played it a gazillion times! I also played guitar, and her voice was in my key. Also my favorite at karaoke. She was a recipient at the Kennedy Honors. Aretha sang NATURAL WOMAN. It was near her death. Her performance was shocking. If you want goosebumps, Check it out. I watch the first 15 seconds and I see the video. Do you pick up a book, read the last few pages then return to the beginning at chapter 1 and read the book? No? Then why do a video like that. I don't watch videos when the have a spoiler intro. I saw the thumbnail, I read the title. That's what made me click on it to watch. I don't need anything else to lure me into watching it.

The record Tapestry released in 1971, then spent 40 years as the longest charting album by a female artist until Adel's 21 unseated it in 2017. It sold 7 million copies in the US the first year, 14 million to date. Tapestry spent 15 consecutive weeks at #1 on the US Billboard 200. Must-listen suggestions from Tapestry: Way over Yonder, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, So Far Away, and It's Too Late. This is timeless music at its finest.

Her song, but that others made a hit out of, but this version is just a wonderful stripped down version, just Carole, her voice and the piano. If Billy Joel is the piano man, she is the piano girl. Shirelles did it justice but it is definitely a Carole King song.

Could you react to something by Janis Ian, not as well known today as Carole King, but just as much an artist--she was a musical prodigy. She wrote Society's Child when she was 13 and 14 years old in the early 1960--it was recorded in 1965 and released in 1966. It dealt with interracial romance. She had a comeback in 1975 with a beautiful introspective song, At Seventeen, which was a number one hit, and has continued to release albums in the 70s 80s 90s and 2000s, to currently. Her singing style is is unique, soft but very intimate.

What most strikes me about this moving song is the timing: he husband wrote the lyrics and Carole the music in 1959, soon after they got married after Carole became pregnant, so they wrote the song at a time when the hoped that love would triumph over doubt. But by the time Carole recorded in in 1970 and toured in 1971, their love and marriage were over -- she now had an answer to the question posed by the song, and the answer, sadly, was no.

When you tour, your chops are up and your voice is stronger because you're using it a lot. When you record, it's usually the times when you aren't out playing live a lot. The dilemma comes when your voice is in shape from being on the road against recording in a studio when you may not be at the top of your game. Usually they will record the whole tour from each nights concert and pick the best songs of the tour for the album...if recording a live album. The studio recording can be harder because you may not be CONSISTENTLY at the top of your game and you may not be laying it all down at once, like you do live. When you lay out a lot it elevates you and your fluidity. When you don't, you lose it until you get it going again.

Love the song and love the artist, but when I was a kid in the 70's, we used to go down to the record store to pick up a little sheet with the top songs for the week provided as a promotion by a radio station, and man we got tired of seeing Carole King over and over, she was more like our parents music, and her album was on the top 40 charts for something like 300 weeks.
