In Sweden, the nature protection cooperation has actually come out with the "6 items a year" challenge just last month. This challenge does not include underwear and socks, but all other clothing items. There's enough clothes on this earth right now to dress/clothe 6 generations! It's insane! My advice is that if you do really need to buy a new piece of clothing, please take time to look second hand!

My husband and I are also on a more natural & sustainable fabrics journey. Sorting out my clothes by fabrics really helped me slim down my closet! Because if items I was on the fence about were more elastane or polyester, I was able to let it go like Elsa immediately. Also, we are big on thrifting good quality clothes instead of buying everything new because the pieces simply last longer (and are cheaper).

Nice. 😊 Keep in mind that Viscose isn't considered a natural fibre (since it doesn't grow like this on trees or somewhere), but chemically it actually is! It's made from wood and comparable to paper. The textile version of paper if you will. 😅 I like it even more than cotton, bc. it's even softer. (More than flax/linen and wool anyway, I (unfortunately) can't stand the feel of wool on my skin.)

Just moved and purged before staging the old house, purged when packing and now that all my clothes are in the new closet (they were spread out in different places in the old house) I need to purge again!! Before I moved abroad, I got rid of most everything I owned from my chronically disastrous room. Both living out of a backpack for months and coming home to a much-emptier room made me realize how much more manageable life feels when there’s just less stuff in it

I've been tracking my wardrobe inventory in an Excel/Google Sheets for about four years now and yes I do really love seeing data trends and what pieces I already have enough of or which colors I gravitate towards, an added benefit is before I add an item to my shopping cart I think "If I purchase this, that's going to be an extra few minutes of cataloguing it" and that can be enough for me to say it's not worth the minor dopamine rush of buying it.

They’re great because you not only get the information, but also you can add photos and my favorite part is the cost to wear. I been doing it for like 8 years. And I can go back to items I was wearing a specific day.

This is so relevant to what I just started doing!! My husband and I had a Monthly $200 budget that goes into a fund if not spent for various clothing pieces (save up for formal pieces/wedding guest outfits etc) but I have a spending problem so I always feel the need to drain the $200 on whatever. I started doing the mindset that if I only allow myself to buy 1 item each month, and invest in a higher quality piece as close to $200 then it would likely last longer and I also would pay attention to that brand, if it lasts, and would feel plenty more motivated to return it if it isn’t perfect! It’s only been 2 months but I am feeling a lot less managed by my possessions and I really have enjoyed feeling like it’s almost self care investing in higher quality pieces for myself. ❤

Yeah I'm sold. I recently replaced all of my bras with the uniqlo wireless but there's not much variation in style so now I know what I'm getting next. Although will probably check poshmark and other reseller sites first

The Indyx app just changed my LIFE - catalogued my whole closet today and realised I have NO excuse to say I've nothing to wear. I feel pretty minimal but still had 130+ items, including accessories, shoes, etc. Now preplanning outfits and seeing the whole wardrobe at a glance is FAB.

Really lovely to see you tackle this and think of a strategy for the future. If you have access to a good tailor in your area, they can also really transform items that aren't fitting quite right into clothing that are more customized to you - not just taking something in or letting something out, but modifying the shape. This is most effective with clothing that is already at a higher quality! When I started taking aerial classes (silks!) it began to change my back and arm muscles. Two of my favorite dresses, which zipped all the way to my neck in the back became a real challenge to wear, so I took them to the tailor and asked if they could change the back so that they would zip up far lower. They did and honestly look cooler than they did when I first bought them. On another dress, I realized that if I could lower the straps, the bodice would fit better on me, so cut up an old shirt I was not wearing anymore and made new straps out of them (the fabric was a similar weight of cotton). More involved decision making, but sooooo satisfying.

CAROLINE YOU ARE IN MY BRAIN! yes yes yes I'm really deep in thought about trying to make good purchases that will last for years, if not lifetimes, but fabric composition and even how the fabric is woven or constructed is such a huge learning curve. In the last couple of years, I have been buying the majority of my purchases from sustainable brands. However, I have found even within those brands, the material and composition of certain clothes still make them prone to pilling or falling apart sooner rather than later, which defeats the whole purpose of spending more on less and shopping sustainably if I still have to replace it in a year or two! Definitely going to use your google sheet to track this; what a genius idea!

I took out my winter clothing yesterday and counted my 100% cashmere sweaters. I own 24! All but two are from thrift stores for $6 each! I wear them all. Some as pajama tops or “walk the dog” sweaters, and am not especially careful with them because of how inexpensive they are. Linen is another fabric to look for. Looks betterthan 100% cotton when it’s a little “rumpled” and also really easy to source in thrift stores.

Brilliant! Love to hear someone just started their journey on what kind of wardrobe they want to have. I have done this journey years ago and still learning new and loving my wardrobe more than ever. The only thing I think is to be realize that some cloths/ shoes won’t be worn as often as others but are at least as important to keep! If you want inspiration Justin Leconte has lots of brilliant videos a serie about capsul wardrobes! Good Luck and I hope we get to see more of how 12 cloths per year is working. I love to thrift and am plus sized and I think a lot of my over consumption of clothes comes from just sheer excitement of finding something in my size at the thrift store and not evaluating if I really like it or not / if it’s my style or not but just buying it because it’d fit.

During the corona period, when all the stores were closed, I sold my clothes online. That went very well. I had a lot of things that I hardly wore and got good money for them. In the end it was around €2500. In return, I bought a pair of sacond hand diamond stud earrings and a very good quality solitaire ring. The ring became a pendant. It was an investment, new it would cost me about 10000€ or more. So decluttering was the best thing that could have happened to me. And I conquered my shopping addiction. Now I only buy things when I really need them.

Moving into a 74 year old DC row home forced me to drastically declutter and go on my own journey of improving my wardrobe to better quality items. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that just because it's more expensive doesn't mean the quality is better.😢 I'm still trying to find brands that make good quality clothes within my budget. I really like the concept of 12 items a year. Hopefully, my waistline will be on board with that arrangement.

Thred Up also can mail you a clean out bag with a mailing label included, you can fill it up, send them things to sell, make a little extra cash while they do all the work, and you can select that they recycle what doesn't sell, and you can just drop it off at any post office blue collection box or have your mailman person pick it up when they drop off your mail.

When Hannah Louise Poston wanted a recommendation for decorating, I told her to check out your channel. Now I’m going to recommend you go visit Hannah Louise Poston! In particular her video from March 2023 on dressing the fantasy self. She does a lot of makeup reviews, so you kind of have to wade through stuff, but her deal about buying clothes is “fewer, nicer things.” Just recently she did a piece on how to think about clothes the way they’ll look a year from now. (You aren’t really buying that new, crisp item, you’re buying something that’s going to have been worn and washed three times, and will you still love it?) My husband had a Panther's team jacket my brother gave him. My brother passed away several years ago. It was a sentimental item, but my husband never wore it. I took a couple pictures of him in the jacket and then donated it. It worked out.

I'm being really honest when I say I so desperately want to relate to this. I adore you, your style, your unique style of humour, this video etc but I am poor and the one closet in my place is empty. Except for some possible spiders. LOL Thanks to an abusive ex and lifelong diseases that have rendered me unemployable I live well below the poverty line here in Canada and literally own 2 shirts, one pair of pants, a sweater and am hoping I'll be able to find a charity shop winter coat for next to nothing. I would love to have these over stuffed closet and drawer problems but I still really enjoy your videos. I also suffer from extreme depression and could never afford therapy so I search for helpful and insightful youtubers that I can gain a bit of info from. You are one of the best at making people feel there is hope. For making people feel that you really have suffered too and understand. Not that it's your job to counsel but you make it clear that we are not all alone in how we feel. Thanks for another entertaining half hour and I hope your day is fantastic.

Girl I got closet storage for fancy clothes, dresser for every day stuff, and under my bed I have winter, postpartum warm weather, postpartum cold weather, maternity warm weather and maternity cold weather. I’m pregnant again so I have to keep all of it, and I HATE IT😂
